Hi,

Has anyone else wondered why the Dream Beauties were advertised as "All  Grown Up My Little Ponies" but they were so much bigger than the regular adults?   :what: I know I had a Dream Beauty in my childhood collection. I think it was Song Rider. She was blue with pink accents and had the purple star symbol that you could slide open and she had the perfume inside her symbol.  I guess the Dream Beauties were made to compete with Fashion Star Fillies, but has anyone else wondered why they were so much bigger than regular MLPs?

I guess kids weren't supposed to think about it that much. I mean the regular ponies had mommies and babies so it would have been like teenagers having babies. Maybe ponies are like pokemon and they evolve at different stages.

I would guess it was just marketing. They were geared at a slightly older market therefore HB were probably just trying to encourage those who had MLP and had perhaps grown out of them to consider a new "more grown up version".

Therefore HB kept their customers and kept children loyal to the brand and interested in their products when they had grown out of the age bracket MLP are supposed to appeal to.

I would have thought the same as Cat.

When I was a kid, I thought they were more like "My Little Horse" because they are much taller than the ponies. Just like real horses and ponies.

I also agree with what hathorcat said. I don't think they were ACTUALLY supposed to be ponies grown up...adult ponies are already grown up ponies. =P I think they used the phrase "grown up" as a figure of speech.

Maybe ponies are like pokemon and they evolve at different stages.

LOL I like this theory.

Well, my mother always thought ponies grew up to be horses so I guess a child wouldn't question the difference!  LOL

I think Hasbro was just running out of ideas at that point.
Nirvana grails:  Reverse Gusty (upgrade), Peru Windy and Moonstone (upgrade), Brazil TAF upgrades, Argie Powder w/ white hair (upgrade), French Windy and Moondancer (upgrades), Spain TAF's, TE's, and piggies.  These are my biggest wants, but I'm looking for tons more nirvanas, especially Greeks, Brazilians, and Peruvians.  Feel free to PM me for sales or trades.  But please note that I'm also fairly picky.

In childhood, I considered Dream Beauties to be another breed. Related to the "real" MLP of course, like cousins or something. In germany Ive never heard of "all grown up My Little Ponies", so maybe be had another catchy phrase.

But I did! My friend had one of those, and I always refused to have it play in our herds, because it didn't fit in at all.

I think Hasbro was trying to create a more "adult" style...perhaps to appeal to older girls? Also, what came first...Fashion Star Fillies or Dream Beauties? Perhaps if it was FSF they were trying to compete and wanted to tap into an established market by connecting them to MLP.

/intelluctual hat off

Does it matter? What the world needs is more brightly colored, pretty horses/ponies! :D

I can't imagine what Celestia's pre-evolved stage looks like .... perhaps a Chansey?

Thank you for the replies everyone. :) I don't think I liked the Dream Beauties much since I only had one  but it's been such a long time ago that I might not remember correctly. I didn't think about them being aimed at a slightly older audience than regular MLPs although that makes a lot of sense.

It also makes sense that Hasbro might have been running out of ideas at that point in the G1 line.
