I'm a 34 year old from Colorado (USA). I pay the bills as an administrative assistant with the Water Quality Control Division so if you want to discus how totally amazing good tap water is, I'm your girl!
I'm happily married to a man who is planning my 35th birthday party next weekend and independently decided to make it Pony themed (so many party goods!). He then decided there would be six activities based on the six main ponies in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (which he watches with me along with Jem and Ruby Gloom just as I watch Silver Surfer, The Avengers and Full Metal Alchemist with him). Yesterday he was sharing with me the questions he has created for Twilight Sparkle's trivia game. I didn't know the answer to about half of the questions! I had to add some of my own to make it easier for our guests. We also each brought a cat to the marriage. (Mine is quite a bit like Rarity's Opal.)
I've been collecting since 1983 or maybe 1984. I received Glory and my sister got Moondancer. By the early 90s my sister and I had amassed a collection of around 120 ponies and 7 buildings. When we moved at 14 years of age for me and 12 for her we gave most of them to the little girls in our neighborhood. I know, it severely pains me to type that at this juncture in my life. We kept our favorites and our firsts and some of the adorable goods (our favorite game was "mall" where we laid out all the goods and set up households) in the Lullaby Nursery.
Since then I bought two MLP key chains in Japan -- where I was living when the 80s returned; I then bought Silly Sunshine in a fit of nostalgia; and then my mom bought me a My Little Pony Magnetic Travel Play Set, a Pinkie Pie Play Doh stamp with pink "Doh" as well as an Easter Cheerilee from 2009 with the bunny ears because she used to always buy us Ponies for every occasion (she's getting nostalgic too).
That's where I was until I decided to watch MLP FIM since it showed up on Netflix. Now my loving husband has sorted through boxes of blind bags with me in search of "cool ones," I own a Gen4 Rarity (I do still like the "original" pony toys more) and stickers and a coloring book and a Busy Book and then this party -- I'm full on eight years old again! What fun!
I like all the pony goods I've seen save what I believe is called Gen 3.5 when they left behind the look I recognized for a Littlest Pet Shop look that just looked wrong to my elderly eye. It took me a while to warm up to the Gen 4 ponies after that because they did look different although not so extreme but I love them now too. What I'm getting at is that anything that has a MLP logo on it gets at least a cursory examination from me.
I still probably have the greatest love for the classics but I also have to sadly admit that poor Glory who I at some point decided needed rouge applied to the end of her horn as well as applied in lieu of her worn off star will never again look as lovely as Rarity. So there's nostalgia for the old but appreciation for the un-child-loved pristine condition of the new too. I guess that's what drives my collecting.
I think that's plenty about my collection although I could go on and on because so few people care to hear and if not shared here, where can it be shared?
