Glee is a Musical TV show, and for that matter, so is American Idol. I'd say both of those are cool.

As far as being worried about not knowing about the choices someone picked, They will be asked to provide a link to a clip on YouTube or Hulu or something, or to link to lyrics online or provide picture references.

:o .... YES. YES PLEASE. This swap sounds amazing. I'd totally jump on this bandwagon, depending on what my next college semester looks like workload-wise.
I'd be a little afraid that people would take a little too literally, like make the pony based on the main band member, or the song title... I like more abstract pony concepts and themes, so I might pick a classical song just to force my partner member into more creative thinking 
Preferred finishing date, I'd have to say maybe a little after Christmas? I'll be on winter break for a little bit before then and won't have to cram finishing the pony among finishing the semester that way.
Can't wait to see what others say about this, it's a great idea

I think you will be a few weeks shy of the 5 month mark but you would totally qualify for the newbie catagory for people with less membership time if I get a few more who want in as well.

@DeeLeeLamba I really like the abstract ideas also! But even the literal applications could be awesome. Think of a pony done up like it was in the Cats musical! You would just need to be sure to list in your concepts that you would like your partner to be a little abstract I will need to work on getting a copy of the form up.

@Alatarial Im sure as time progresses closer to signup dates we will get more people to show interest for sure!

I would in the newbie section my issue would be feedback. My four customs I'll have done by then are for my neighbors girls and two people from ponyisland so I'm not sure how that would work....

If "ponyisland" has any sort of feedback thingy, I would let you link me that. But feedback doesn't need to be from customs. You could sell or trade a few small things here on the arena with other folks and that would qualify too. I know something most people use a lot of is rehairing needles and tools, which I sell. That would be a cheap purchase which I could leave feedback for. But if you check out the sales/trade/wanted threads, Im sure you will find many interesting things

At the company I work for, we do a Secret Santa gift exchange every Christmas that requires you to give you partner a mix cd (we are a music company that provides online services/networking to musicians/labels/fans/venues-- http://reverbnation.com wooo).  That might be something fun to add as an extra!
