Customs / Cadence and Shining Armor restyled/customized
« on: April 23, 2012, 09:12:35 AM »
So I received my Taobao ponies on the same day as the episode aired so after watching the ep I instantly got to work, muaha!

Okay, I was sort of concerned seeing Shining Armor’s toy pictures but when I got him in my hand I could see him being reasonably awesome to work with. One thing I notice is that he’s really, really big in scale. Whilst I like the sculpt I hope there will be a slightly smaller stallion mold in the future.
Any ways, I sculpted his hair and painted his hooves and filled in his pupil. I personally like these improvements though I know others wouldn’t really approve of me customizing an unreleased pony yet.

And here is Cadence with her hair restyled. Her hair was much thinner than I would have liked and her tail lacked colours but I wanted to try curling her hair and giving it some volume.
Of course I now need to make Chrysalis to complete my canon collection of alicorns.

I find that the trolls are the only interesting characters.  The humans don't excite me.  But the worst part is that you don't meet the trolls until Act Four or so...
Wow I'm quite the opposite! I adore the kids and felt Act 5 was the hardest to get through because I simply didn't like a majority of the trolls, then they all had character development. I think that's the main draw for me. Homestuck has just enough to give you an idea but just enough wriggle room to fill in your head canons.

I love all of the characters at this point though :/

Well Australia still is on Wave 3 as America is nearish Wave 6 with Diamond Rose and Cherry Pie.

Basically four kids play a game, things get serious. Timey wimey talk, chekov's armory, memes, in jokes, gags and an overlaying plot with so many interestingly written characters that a lot of people get attached to.

Personally, I find it's something VERY difficult to get into, but if you can slug your way through Act one, the plot stops wandering everywhere and things actually pick up. I find Homestuck is something that can't be looked at in a linear sort of way, but rather something you have to piece together and try to fill in the gaps yourself.

The very main reason why people love it? The characters. Without the characters, I doubt there would be as many people into Homestuck as they are now. There's plenty to get attached to and a need to learn more about them.

That and I think because it's so obscenely long, so utterly flowery and prose-t, that ANYONE who manages to keep up to date and managed the 6,000 pages is now bound to the story from the sheer fact that they managed it without going insane. :P So there's that.

Also the fandom itself is very expansive, something to rival the FiM fandom with it's music, digital art, cosplayers, ask blogs, fan theories and generally the fandom itself is somewhat of a draw I find. The fandom, like the FiM fandom is full of different people with so many different talents and coming from different walks of life, it's kind of hard to not fall into Homestuck and like it as much as I do.

Anyways, those are just what I observed, being a Homesticker myself.

Hehehe... The hair doesn't bother me.  The gigantic chest and tiny butt proportions are what I find laughable!

I agree !

I could fix that hair, no problem... T__T; But I'm not sure I want to even attempt fixing that body of his, yikes.

I wonder if his head could go on a normal pony body? I have seen boy customs using girl ponies that the only thing changed was the head.

I don't think so. It's probably way too huge a noggin.
Actually, if the neck set up is the same, you could just swap the heads out and modify the head a tad. Of course I'm only basing this assumption from the fact Celestia/regular and filly brushables are all interchangeable by the neck. It's a matter of aesthetics if anything... I mean, when I made my Fancypants custom, I stuck a Twilight head on a G3 McD's body and while the body was larger, the head isn't too bad:

Anyways, I really wanna try sculpting show accurate hair for Shining Armor in a vain attempt to make him presentable as a prince :B

Pony Corral / Re: Prince blue blood is who's son?
« on: March 14, 2012, 03:42:15 AM »
My pet theory was that some time ago when there was a major disaster/war/etc, a lot of her guards rose up and stood by her side even when there was no hope. Then when they finally won, Celestia decided to name those ponies her family and gave them all higher social standing. Eventually through multiple generations, it became an aristocratic title to call yourself a family member title and Prince Blueblood just came from old money, so to speak.

*shrugs*

Odd, my Sweetie Belle didn't have a hole when I cut off her horn for my Pipsqueak custom..

I had a literal flood of sweetie belles recently due to getting the CMC set and trades and such and I thought “Hmmm, I should make Silver Spoon and Diamond Tiara” but I grew a brain and decided not to. I then saw my crappy Pipsqueak sculpt I was making and thought that using a Sweetie Belle base would be good. So I lopped off a horn and ears and stuck on a pair of Rarity’s ears on him. I looked up Pipsqueak fanart on some pony image site and asides from the unsavoury… pics, I found a really cute grown up version of him with a neck scarf.
And so here is a slightly older Pipsqueak with a neck scarf. I painted him at the mini pony art meet and surprisingly he turned out very decent.

Also scary butt fun

Welp, the Flower Trio. I was going to split it into three separate posts but I got lazy. Plus the fact I didn’t take many pics of them to split separately.
Anyways, these three are a Pinkie Pie, Plumsweet and Cupcake bases with milliput hair and acrylics. I put off doing these indivually because they’re already recolours of ponies I’ve already done and I felt it looked weird if I didn’t have the trio. Not much else to say except it was pretty easy to do these gals and I’m glad they’re done.
I just need a bunch of things for them to freak out at.
Btw I was inspired to do these three partly thanks to the Ask the Flower Trio tumblr so go send them some love here: http://asktheflowertrio.tumblr.com/

Daisy is the first third of my Flower Trio. She's a Pinkie Pie I slapped milliput hair on with and made her hair and eyes green.
Not much to say except I totally pair her and Sir Colton together since she's the only one of the three to actually wander off on her own. So I'm planning to make a Colton eventually...

Here is Lily made from a Pinkie Pie recolour, cupcake. Her lily is from a Monster High Lagoona and the rest of her is milliput. With her together I really love her colours together and squee a tad. Thanks to the Ask Flower Trio Tumblr I wanna get her video games and a wide screen tv to procrastinate on...

And here is Rose, also known as Roseluck. However, since the show refers to her as Rose she is Rose. Roseluck is just her Hasbro name (which they also called Daisy Flower Wishes so I'm just going to disregard Hasbro canon for the moment).
Anyways, she is a Plumsweet I stained with copics to be the off white colour, hurr durr. It was a bit uneven and didn't take in some places, but hey, she's done and I can move on.

On my list of concept mane 6 based on G1 ponies was Posey, a generation xerox of Fluttershy. The most I did was style the hair of a fluttershy and cutting off her wings, and sanding it back a bit. Otherwise she was possible the easiest of the concept ponies (asides from Applejack).
I already have a Lulu Luck lined up for Twilight, and hankering for that pink coat/blue hair peg for Firefly, but I have absolutely no idea how to approach doing Rarity’s concept pony, most because she’s had *one* recolour of her done in the single packs.

WELP, turns out I was sitting on these pics since the beginning of November (due to real life lol) and I assumed I already posted these pics of Photo Finish…
Anyways, Photo Finish is made from a Rainbow Dash with her wings chopped off and such. I decided to make her cuz she really reminded me of my High School Photography teacher (ironically my best friend is like Fluttershy and I was very much like Rarity…) and plus I love the hamminess of her character.
Heck, even two months ago, I can see where my skills have improved and how far I’ve come in terms of customizing, but still, I love this custom, flaws and all.

So here are Celestia and Luna. I… I was not enthused at this project. It doesn’t feel like a custom, but rather fixing up a gigantic hot mess Hasbro crapped out. After painting Celestia white, she feels and looks more regal and less… childish. I know that adults THINK girls like pink, but honestly, the over abundance of Pinkie Pie and generic pink recolours should have been sufficient.
Any ways, it’s good that our celestial ruler has finally come to my shelf in her proper form.

Geeze, I’ve only had this girl sculpted and unpainted since… October.
At first I wanted to give her Nightmare Night hair but I realised how stupid it looked in Milliput so I just lopped it off and sculpted her first hair style. Who knows, I might actually do the Nightmare Night hair on an altered Celestia instead…
Anyways, she is indeed taller than my other ponies but not Celestia’s height. Hopefully she looks comparably good to my other Luna I did for a friend.

Blaaaaaah so much to catch up on... Anyways I've been working on a bunch of pony stuff and decided to redo my Spitfire. So yeah, I decided to redo her head and give her sculpted hair, nicer eyes and generally a darker coat. I studied the screencaps and realised that the Twilight eyes she has are basically the roud eyes but with a little white triangle attached. So she looks so much better than my first derped up attempt.
Anyways, she’s a much brighter yellow than Fluttershy and basically, I’m very happy with her result. Hee.

And here is Soarin in which I originally made to go with my Spitfire… which resulted in me recustomizing her to go with Soarin. He’s basically a Rainbow Dash base and altered with milliput. Before anyone asks, I’m trying to find a pie for him so he can nom at it all he wants.
Anyways I need to get a Blossomforth to turn into the third Wonderbolt because it seems weird not having a trio of them failing to save Ponyville.

So basically, I follow a bunch of Ask Pony roleplay blogs and all of them combine art and writing seriously well. Now while I usually only follow alternate versions of the main characters I do read a bunch of background character blogs as well. It’s actually because of them I’ve been able to give a crap about making the custom pony versions of them.
Now, Echo Fleetfoot had such a pretty colour scheme and such a sweet backstory (being blind and having echolocation as her talent) I decided to give doing her hairstyle and eyes would be an awesome challenge.
I am debating on giving her rosy cheeks but hey, I got her little buck teeth and eyes mostly well done…
Check out her blog here:

So I’m a huge fan of Pinkie Pie and I adore all forms of her, especially concept form. Part of me will always mourn Surprise not being part of the mane 6 or at least her colour scheme because I think it looks really nice with her purple eyes, white coat and yellow hair. Pinkie Pie is amazing, but really, she’s kind of of too… overwhelmingly pink at times.
Anyways, I’m slowly making the concept mane 6, but I kind of want them to be mirror images of the mane 6 I currently have so I’m going to rehair them. Surprise was first on my list due to her awesomeness (and awesome ask blog http://asksurprise.tumblr.com/ )… As you can see I’m sort of failed on her crazy hair but I think it’s adorable looking…
Surprise was made from a Plumsweet head, Blossomforth body generously given to me in a trade, her hair being a mix of Rainbow Dash’s, Rainbow Flash’s and Lily Blossom’s hair…
I chose to go for this combo rather than wait for Diamond Rose just because Plumsweet’s eyes are purple and I’d rather not mess with eyepaint if possible.

So I was doing my usual mind numbing pony research for anything new and I think I may have come across something exciting... I somehow ended up on a German branding licensing site and searched my little pony and came across these two unusual listings with no pictures... date expected in August 2012...  I also used my handy google translate and ended up with...

Princess Cadence

At the very least it seems like Cadence is getting her own release...
