Pony Corral / Re: De-flocked Bangles??
« on: March 15, 2012, 10:22:20 PM »
It really depends on the individual pony.  I've had some where the flocking just peeled off with hot water and it hardly took any effort at all to get the rest of the glue off.  Then others were so stubborn I would give up on them for a time and come back in a few days to try again.  I did one Truly that I was never able to get the residue off of and ended up selling her as bait.

You have to scrub a bit more with the alcohol.  I keep checking to make sure I'm not taking off any paint, but it worked on most of the ones I used it on without any damage at all.  I did find that the white paint came off easier than other colors.  In fact, I think that's the only color I noticeably damaged on any of mine.  My Ribbon only has a small smudge but then she was one of the ones with the flocking that peeled off easily.  I've got a second Ribbon in progress where the flocking doesn't want to come off at all and it's taking the paint up with it when it does.

OMG delocked crumpet!!!!!????
she is the ONLY US pony still on my wishlist!!!!
sooo jealous!!

I had to search for quite awhile to find one with poor enough flocking for it.  She was my set completer, and I was terrified I would damage her during the deflock.  Thankfully, she cooperated and turned out really well.

I just recently finished my deflock collection.  I never found oxyclean very helpful and wasn't able to find Jasco; so I just used a very hot water to get rid of most of the flocking and pure acetone and rubbing alcohol (for painted areas) for the glue residue.

My best estimate is $4.56 for one loose G4 in a bubble mailer (my scale shows it as being slightly over 2 oz.).

Pony Corral / Re: Where can I find the g4 pony socks?
« on: March 10, 2012, 03:59:04 PM »
I've only heard about the Target $1 ones and they're long gone from the stores.  I think I still have a few extra pairs around though if you're interested.

The problem with selling on Blab is that you have to be a paid member.  You can post a few ads for free on the Model Horse Sales Pages you just don't get the picture next to the ad - you can still post pictures in the ad itself by hosting them elsewhere just as you can in threads here.  There are a couple of Yahoo groups such as the Haynet Exchange out there as well, but I haven't posted anything in those in some time so I don't know how active they are anymore.

How did you get those marker pen marks off? :) The result is gorgeous!

Sunfading  :sunny:   The blue/purple writing faded pretty quickly but the red "eyeshadow" took months and if you look closely you can still see traces of it on Painting Time.  I'm still really pleased with how she turned out.

I'll have to check if I took any before pictures of the ponies I've been working on recently - I tend to forget about pictures and just grab them and start cleaning when they're really bad.

The best place to sell them would be the Model Horse Sales Pages

Pony Corral / Re: Where do you find pony bags in Goodwill?
« on: February 28, 2012, 05:19:03 PM »
It really depends on where you live.  The Goodwills in Middle Tennessee usually put all the ponies in bins or on tables near the front where you fill your own grab bag for $3 (most will also sell anything from those bins for $0.50 a piece if you don't find enough for a whole bag).  Some will occasionally put ponies back in the toy section priced separately at $1 each.  That's where the plush and playsets usually end up too.  I don't recall seeing bags of toys at the Kentucky or Illinois Goodwills I've been to, and I know they don't do the fill your own bag thing at those.  I don't get a chance to go to those very often but I think I've seen a pony or two priced individually in the toy section when I have been there.

I've noticed that about the color guide - while most seem it be very accurate, some of the unconfirmed ones can be way off.

I just compared my Star Glow to Merriweather and she's an almost exact match.  I also compared her to a pony I recently rehaired with Lemon Drop and the new hair is maybe a shade darker probably due to Star Glow's fading with age.  I only have some scraps of Yellow Fever but it looks to be too bright a yellow; so, I'd go with the Lemon Drop.

Trader & Shipping Support / Re: Insurance and Customs Questions
« on: February 25, 2012, 11:21:43 AM »
The customs form has carbon copies.  The post office keeps one on file, gives you a copy, and puts the rest on the package.  Plus, I'm pretty sure they enter all the information in their computers when they take the package.

That's right.  They don't allow you to insure a package for more than the value you mark on the customs form.

Customs / Re: Candy Cane pony hair help!
« on: February 22, 2012, 07:25:39 PM »
The Candy Canes have alternating stripes of colored and white hair (each the same width).  There are three white stripes and four colored except on Sugar Sweet who only has three since she has no forelock.  The first stripe is the forelock (always a colored stripe).  The rest you take pairs of colored and white stripes to form their curls.  Here are a couple of reference shots for you:
