Whispers, Speckles is absolutely gorgeous! Was he sick when you got him or was he just young? I didn't know they could lose and gain color like that.
Thank you! Photos don't do him justice! I've learned that marbled bettas don't stay the same color, due to the gene that causes the marbling.

It's really amazing to see a fish turn colors like that!  I'm guessing Speckles will continue filling out with color.  At first it was disappointing because I have always wanted a marbled halfmoon betta but I love him just the way he is!

I just got Speckles last month.  A Halfmoon double tail betta.  I have before and after photos of him.  He originally was marbled with just a little color, and now is full of color.

he looks like an underwater butterfly when he flares his fins.  he's really beautiful but his blue colors are very hard to photograph so i don't have good photos of him.  most of the time the blue comes out green.

Sammie and Speckles both live in their own 5.5 gallon tanks with three ghost shrimp each.  They also prefer different water temperatures from eachother, it's funny how full of personality bettas are!

I love Marimo moss!  I have two with each of my bettas.  one tank is heated to 80 degrees, and the other is around 75.  My ghost shrimps like to eat it though so they end up falling apart.  You can get them for about $8 at petsmart and petco has them too for $10.  they really are cute!  you can even buy them on ebay!

 :sunny:
Yesterday when I walked into the thrift store and made it to the toy aisle I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw Baby Hushabye just sitting on the shelf, waiting for me!  I haven't had a good g1 find in a long time, I end up having to pass on really common, really manky g1s.  Baby Hushabye has her outfit, but no pacifier or brush and I'm considering making her booties :P  I've had Sweet Dreams (with no outfit or anything) for years now but have never cared for her symbol so I've really been wanting Hushabye or Pink Dreams.   She was only $1.44!

I also found two AA My Child dolls, but only have one pictured with Baby Hushabye.  The dolls will be for sale soon but I really love My child dolls, they are really cute. :lovey:

I've also found some g4s recently but no photos at the moment.. Princess Celestia (moving wings) and styling Twilight, and a few others that I don't remember at the moment.

I finally a betta with the colors I wanted!  Meet Speckles - A Halfmoon Double Tail Betta..  I wish I had a better photo but most of them I take show him as green when he really is blue with no green at all.    I got his name from a list of 101 dalmatian names, and then realized it was also a baby pony name and just had to keep it as that ;)

I have had tonnes of fish over the years - mostly bettas ^.^ Sadly though, one of our cats is utterly obssessed with fish so we have a strict no tank inside rule.
On the bright side, it has meant that I have been able to set up a pond outside :D We currently have 6 goldfish and 5 koi (3 of them are butterfly finned koi and are just gorgeous!), but we're about to renovate the whole area and make it much MUCH bigger, with slip ponds and fountains into an aquaponics setup, which will be used to grow something (not sure what yet, as I already have a vegie garden, and we grow water mint, water chestnuts and a few flowering plants in the pond).
Of course if I had MY way, I'd be converting our pool into a massive koi pond :D I love my little koi friends

Sounds lovely!  Do you have a picture?  I would love to have an outdoor pond!

Sammie is very cute :)  As is the cat!
I'm glad to see you upgraded his tank, though.
Thank you :)   It took forever to find correct information on Betta fish keeping.  He didn't live in his old homes very long.  I didn't hesitate to upgrade his tank once I found out what the minimum size was.  If I do find another betta fish that I want I'll probably get a much larger tank and divide it.

I have one betta, Sammie, and two ghost shrimp  (Thing 1 and Thing 2)
When I first got Sammie he lived in a critter keeper

and then i moved him to a 2.5 gallon tank

but now he lives in a 5 gallon tank, with the shrimp, and i have blue sand in there instead and a few marimo moss balls.  i wanted a planted tank with java moss but when i kept the moss in quarantine i quickly found out i had a snail, who after a few weeks started leaving weird trails around the container and i found out it was a pond snail and rapidly having babies.  i had to find a pond to release them into, but they were fascinating to watch.

this is my cat watching the fish, and the snails in the critter keeper when i had them

and one ghost shrimp

Sammie again, I've had him since September 2011.

Sammie watches me a lot.  He starts flaring when my cat comes to visit him.  He doesn't like anyone looking at him, he gets mad and flares at them but he tolerates me..sometimes.  It's really funny, I would have never guessed that a fish could pay attention to me like that and be so involved with whats going on around him.

i would like to get another betta.  i'd like a half moon betta who is marbled with blue.
