The Dollhouse / Re: Venus question?
« on: February 18, 2013, 05:52:13 PM »
But what I don't get is what is this new Venus? Is it the sc one that Mattel just randomly started making with different makeup?

Normally, each release gets new makeup. On some dolls, it can be drastically different, like Cleo, Clawdeen and Frankie. On others, it can be subtle, like on Abbey or Draculaura. The initial release of the SC Venus was identical in every way to the signature release. It might have been less notable, except it's only the second doll of hers to be released. From what I understand, the "new" makeup (green eye shadow and lighter pink lips) is what she's supposed to look like; the first cases containing her are technically an error. Since I haven't gotten either yet, I'm only going by what I hear. But one of my good friends says that the box art for her has the "new" makeup, so I'm inclined to believe this is the case.

For Halloween, I'd love to be Clawd. If only I was black! Grrr!

Easier to find a good brown stage makeup than to get a good body! I'd love to go as Deuce, or maybe Gil. But in my current condition, I'd look like I ate the rest of the class. Maybe I could go as a more realistic version of the blob girl....

I haven't had any luck with finding older dolls like GB and DT. All the places I've been to that would have the budget dolls either have SS or RM. It's really hard not to spend the extra money to get them, but I know that I really don't want to pay much more than retail for them especially with shipping factored into the prices.

I found a Killer Style Frankie at Justice in the mall I work at if anyone is still interested in her! I didn't get the chance to grab Draculaura's fashion pack, but I'm hoping this week I'll be able to grab it! I'm just dying for Rochelle to wear it!

I'll need to make sure I have all the pieces to her, and that she doesn't have glue issues, but I have a spare GB Cleo just taking up space in one of my MH odds and ends boxes. If she's complete and doesn't have signs of glue, I'd be happy to sell her to you for a reasonable price. My main concern is the glue, since she came with the five pack Target exclusive; both the Frankie and Draculaura have shown signs of the glue. Her hair is a bit tacky, but unlike the other two, she hasn't had a wash yet, so it might just be the usual gel that I feel. PM me if you're interested!

Just got this message from Mattel Australia: "There are currently no plans to range the Heath and Abbey 2 pack in NZ. We can confirm, that there are 4 boys available this year (Clawd, Gil, Deuce & Holt) in various packs and configurations. We unfortunately can’t tell you when they are coming out, so you’ll have to keep your eyes out in store for them! The reason for this is a lot of the new product coming out is characters we haven’t yet revealed in the webisode content (www.monsterhigh.com), so all this is very hush-hush."

I'm guessing Deuce will be Scaris Deuce. I'm hoping Gil, Clawd and Holt will be new releases, with new outfits, and not just rereleases. I want a Holt with articulated wrists. He's the last of my boys to still be without them now.

I wonder if that last bit is referring to the new 13 Wishes characters or some other characters that haven't come on the radar yet.

We're also getting Catrine and the CAM packs at some point. A big year for NZ collectors! Woohoo!

OMG, I am so ready for more boys!!! My guy collection is up to date, but I love the guys, so any new releases are fantastic! Especially a signature Gil!!!! And a new Holt would be nice too, especially since he's the last to get articulated wrists. Thanks for sharing this info!

As far as the blackface theory goes, controversy would be producing a spider doll in Caucasian form! Besides, we've already seen that Wydowna makes an appearance in the Power Ghoul comics. If Mattel was that worried about blackface backlash (which is ridiculous to begin with) they would not have put her in at all. In my opinion, that is.

I agree with this train of thought. First of all, she's not human. She's based on an anthropomorphic spider, in a line full of fairly obvious monsters. This isn't Barbie suddenly introducing her new friend Jemimah. And almost every character is technicolor. When the main character of the line is mint green, with a pink best friend, I think the majority of the color argument goes out the window.

Would there be people who make this particular argument? Yes. There are people who think Skelita is anorexic. There will also be fringe critics. But I think what's really holding Mattel back is the cost; I imagine making a doll with three times the arms (on a torso that normally takes two) isn't cheap. I think there's also a bit of fan tease. Operetta was mentioned in the diaries early on, and there were little hints they'd throw out in later diaries and other supplemental material. Then after no mention at SDCC, when we thought it would be at least another year, she just randomly appeared as a FB leak. I think they'll do something similar with AJ/Wydona.

Oh, that's gorgeous! I hope I find the newer one. Might need a second of it if I do, for future fashion packs :p

The Dollhouse / Re: Top 5 favourite MH lines/series?
« on: February 15, 2013, 07:30:20 PM »
What a great idea for a survey!

In order (or as close as possible):

Signature While other lines may come with more pieces or more elaborate outfits, the signature line seems to capture the "essence" of each character the best.  The diaries are some of the most intriguing parts of the line, and are a wonderful glimpse into the character's world. Also, pets!!

Scaris There are so many things I love about this line. First of all, I love that it managed to include so many characters. Giving the same "theme" to both the basic and the deluxe line was genius. I would have liked 1600 more if it had managed to do this. Also, it introduced two new unique torso types. And "international vacation" lines are always so much fun.

Dawn of the Dance The original deluxe line! I still find myself loving the outfits, even though it's one of the oldest lines. Cleo's outfit (especially the shoes) is amazing, Frankie's is outrageously '80s inspired, and we get our first glimpse of Clawdeen's hair experiments. The later additions are also great, and it had Deuce with a different mold for his snake-hawk. The inclusion of iCoffins for everyone is another little touch that I love.

Picture Day It was a toss-up between this and I <3 Fashion, but PD wins for having more characters. I don't consider PD to be part of the signature/2.0/etc lines, because there isn't a diary. Your mileage may vary. But it does have some of the best personalized styles outside of the signature waves. They're reminiscent of what teenagers would wear... if they starred in a television show like Pretty Little Liars, or movies like Clueless. I'm looking forward to the upcoming additions, and wouldn't mind a bit if more characters were added. Clawdeen and Venus would be phenomenal here.

I <3 Fashion I'm not sure if I can really call this a line, since there are only two dolls. But they took two characters who have a lot of releases and really made them look different. I love the darker makeup palette, and I'm in LOVE with the way they did Frankie's hair. I also like that they come with three fun fashions, and at a decent price.

Nope. :) They showed us some of the new CAM's, the new signatures (Venus, Robecca, Rochelle, and Jackson) and the Ghouls Rule dolls (Frankie, Draculaura, Clawdeen, Cleo, but no Abbey). Jinafire and Skelita got leaked right before SDCC, where they then only previewed them on a PowerPoint presentation at the fan conference. Chances are, there's a lot of really cool stuff being held back to premiere at Comic Con.

The year before, they showed the public nothing new on the doll front and used Toyfair to focus on their electronics. The only dolls on display were the ones that had been released already, though the 2.0 signatures were shown to vendors in their back room. A pic of Spectra was leaked soon after and many people thought she was a custom Ghoulia someone was trying to fake us out with, lol.

Haha, I remember that! So much drama. And none of us could make out what Rehuen was; he looked liked a bird or possibly a crumpled up candy wrapper. And after she and Abbey were slowly revealed throughout the day on the FB page... people were so mad because OMG NO NEW DOLLIES IN STORES YET!!!1. Because some people thought that the dolls would get released on the same day as the unveiling, like a video game. Ah, the old days. When my collection could comfortably fit on a single shelf. And still be called a "complete collection".

I didn't know Cleo's nightlight glows in the dark either :|

Well, I don't know about you all, but now that the Toy Fair is over, I'm disappointed with what was announced. I wish there were pictures of the stuff that wasn't leaked and some information about it, possibly release dates?

It probably would have been more exciting if we hadn't already seen the 13 Wishes stuff. They didn't actually show that much last year; just the four new signatures and RM. But last year, we hadn't seen any of the those. We figured that it would be the three girls at least, since their trademarks had been bouncing around. But it was exciting, because we had no idea what they would look like.

MH is at the point where it doesn't need Toy Fair pics to hype it. It's second only to Barbie (and it's really more of a sister franchise, since both are owned by the same company). We do have SDCC coming up, and they also like to throw out a few surprises that don't get shown at either place.

Have a brag for today. Have to tell because it made me so happy. My two best friends came over this morning. My love life lately has been pretty awful so they wanted to be my date. They brought me a bouquet of daisies, a red teddy bear, and this cute pony figure thing for Valentines Day. We then went browsing around at Target. And what did I spy on the shelf?!! A Scaris Deuce!!! I grabbed him but my friends insisted on buying him for me. We then went back to my house where they insisted on ordering pizza for me. I've been extremely spoiled today and I am glad I have such awesome friends.

Congrats on finally getting him! And how sweet of your friends :)

I would prefer Cleo and Lagoona because I'm selfish. They are my two favorite characters after all.

If they did blind bag shoes or just shoe/accessory packs, I will just die! I need them!!!

I love Lagoona too, and I'd love to see her get a I <3 Fashion doll of some sort. My only hesitation would be how hard it seems for the designers to give her cute outfits. Her signature, 2.0 and Classroom were awesome (well, minus the second outfit in Classroom), but so frequently, they seem struggle with finding her "look". Of course, it could be their chance to redeem themselves too!

I've liked all her outfits, but there are definitely a few or so that have room for improvement. I would hope that an I <3 Fashion doll/accessory pack of some sort would help redeem themselves. I'm so confused as to what they want her to look like or what kind of signature style to give her. It's just messy. D:

That's how I feel too. She was the original "sporty" ghoul, and then they started mixing in a little boho, and suddenly you have a mess like PD. I feel they did the whole sporty/hippie mix better with Abbey, to be honest. It probably helps that boots are infinitely cooler than platform flip-flops :P But I love my 'goona; she was the one that made me take the plunge into MH. And her little hoodie from the signature line is probably one of my favorite individual pieces ever.

Wait...an I <3 Fashion Cleo?! Awww yeah. Even though I don't own any Cleos yet, she is fast becoming one fo my fave dolls. Next time I get paid I am searching out her school's out version and then PD.

I'm sorry   Did I miss something?  I get all my info from right here *points at the MH Discussion thread* and I don't remember an I <3 Fashion Cleo.  Did you see that somewhere else?  I'd love an extension to the I <3 Fashion line (I know about the shoe line, but I'm not too crazy about that idea, yet.  Need to see pics first.)  Anyway, typo?

The same person who leaked the photos of the Classroom 2-packs had a little blurb up on her tumblr earlier, confirming a wave 3 for Dead Tired (with Lagoona, Spectra, and Robecca) and the "Shoe Set" that had previously been circulating around the rumor mill that may be similar to the I <3 Fashion line. It appears as though the comment has since been deleted though.

I had originally heard that the set would include Draculaura and Clawdeen, but she had it listed as Draculaura and Cleo, so it'll be interesting to see what comes of it.

I feel like the original blurb I heard about the line was for Clawdeen and Lala as well. Although I'd FAR prefer Cleo and Clawdeen lol. Both of them have more edgy makeup palette and design. Not to mention, I am so sick of Draculaura. I liked her initially, but she's just tired now. And while her original looks were very loli and interesting, a lot of her stuff is either a teensy mini (in black and pink, natch) or poofy and shiny. She's become the playline Barbie of MH!

I'd love it if they continued releasing dolls similar to I <3 Fashion, and more deluxe fashion packs. Oooh, and shoe/accessory packs! Or blind bag shoes.... *imagines jupi crazily rushing through stores, shoving whole boxes of blind bag shoes in her cart*

I'm actually excited that Heath comes in his webisode outfit. This means that when we get his signature doll, we'll get a whole new look!

If there's going to be a Sig version of him at all. We can't be sure if Mattel will go the Jackson Jekyll route with all boy dolls. After all we're still waiting for a Signature Gil :/

I'd advise everyone to buy this Heath and not wait for a Sig release. I will forever regret not buying SS Gil...

Oh, I'll definitely be getting both of these, regardless. I'm a completist, so not getting them in hopes of a signature release would leave a gap in my collection! However, I still think we'll get a signature of Gil; the question is when! We had to wait a long time after GB to get a signature Jackson. Personally, I think signatures should be released first, but that's not how Mattel works :P We do get at least one signature guy a year, so there's still hope for a Gil!

It looks like the GNO line is going to be a slim box line..... or is that just me seeing things?

They look deluxe to me. Slim line boxes tend to haver very careful poses so that they fit and these girls are reaching out a bit. Also, I see a journal in Rochelle's box.

Pretty sure you're correct. The dance lines tend to be a more deluxe line (although not as much as say, 1600 or GR). The outfits are fairly detailed, and they come with purses and an extra accessory. I anticipate these going for about what DDG went for.

The boxes don't look as big as the boxes for deluxe lines. At least to me. They look slightly bigger than the budget line boxes.

If I remember correctly, the DDG boxes were a bit larger than the second wave of DotD (the originals had bigger boxes, similar to the "trapper keeper" style boxes the signatures originally had). But regardless, the dance lines are usually considered "deluxe" compared to the wide-release basic lines, like GB and SS. I'll be happy to be wrong if it means GNO goes for $12-$15 though! :)

I'm actually excited that Heath comes in his webisode outfit. This means that when we get his signature doll, we'll get a whole new look! I'm just sad none of the other boys so far have come with their letterman jackets! I also feel that the Classroom dolls tie in more with the webisodes than the other lines do; Lagoona came with that gargoyle egg and the three-eyed frog, which were both from webisodes.
