Pony Corral / Re: Year 2 Hasbro catalog scans
« on: March 15, 2016, 04:30:43 PM »
I used to have the Year 2 sellers page with the regular Unicorns/Pegasi (sadly did not scan it!) and what was so odd was that the prototypes for the unicorns had some of the head molds switched . . . I can't recall which ones, but basically Twilight, Sunbeam, Glory, and Moondancer were all a bit different from each other b/c they used the Glory-type head mold on the Moondancer-type body mold and vice versa for two of them. So odd! Wish I had the pic to share.

I also remember that the packing numbers were uneven for this group, with Moondancer being the most short-packed one (only two per box) whereas I think Twilight had six. This makes me a bit suspicious of these numbers b/c Moondancer clearly sold better than Twilight and Sunbeam (even if you count out the Year 3 reissue).

It is completely believable that there were more Cotton Candys than other ponies in the packs.

Oh no . . . another consequence of aging ponies!

Now I have to check to see if my ponies look smaller . . .

Sorry to ask the stupid question but I have wondered for a while now....

How can you tell it's an original ribbon and not just a replacement?

I ask as I hate the ribbons (sorry  it's mainly because I am terrible at tying them so they just irritate me) anyway so I usually don't bother with them and have a bag of loose ribbons ( em...and brushes too which I also don't care for, sorry again ).  Would just hate to think that I may have ribbons that someone else may want but have no clue.

Hi Tzan19! A while back I did a thread about IDing original ribbons. It's not foolproof but it may help:

Price Check Archives / Re: PC: Sea Mist, High Tide/Sunfading advice?
« on: February 05, 2016, 06:48:42 PM »
Wow, congrats on a great win!!! :)

I have no idea on PC. But I bet you that Sea Mist sunburns. I don't know for sure (hopefully someone here does), but that Year 3 Sea Pony plastic is weird and I just don't see it holding up well to sunfading. Hopefully I'm wrong and someone has experience that says otherwise!

Either way, congrats again!

The greens are so often the hardest! I was an accessory fanatic even as a child, and at the store I opened several Waterfall playsets (back then this was easy to do w/ damaging anything--one piece of scotch tape!) b/c I wanted my Sprinkles to comes with a green ribbon. In two or three of the boxes I went through the ribbons were more yellow-green. Bubbles is another one that sometimes appears to come with a yellow ribbon, but her "true" ribbon color (if such a thing exists) is more of a yellowish green.

TAK! In the second pic you posted of the ribbons, the 7th one (the greenish one) to me looks like one that could have come with Sprinkles, maaaaaaybe Cherries Jubilee although as Taffeta said the typical ribbon for her is more chartreuse. The 10th ribbon (dark pink) came with Sunlight, Sparkler, maybe Powder (?) and no doubt others.

If the blue one next to the dark pink one is shinier than the others and a bit longer, there is a good chance that is Sundance's ribbon (maybe Year 3 only--seems like her ribbon changed for Year 4???).

Pony Corral / Re: What's the worst/most nonsensical MLP merch you've seen?
« on: February 02, 2016, 06:44:27 PM »
From the strange "rock band" font to Glory flying by propelled by her own rainbow farts to Tic-Tac-Toe and Posey's lovechild, it seems like this shirt couldn't get any more nonsensical! And then you notice that they slapped on "Bronies" to make the whole thing topical, forgetting that this is not the generation of ponies associated with Bronies! :P
just laughed out loud in the office upon reading this  :lmao:
you just made my day, thank you! :thumb:

So so funny--thanks for the laugh :)

Also the Rainbow Dash candy dispenser is hilarious.

Pony Corral / Re: A way to clean yellowed playset plastic?

I never had any luck with the blue parts of the Pretty Parlor (I put on the peroxide gel from Sally Beauty Supply w/ a brush). I had some success with the white parts, but they turned yellow again :(

I think these are . . . fine, kind of cute . . . Buttons is a rather random choice and I can't approve of the Sweet Scoops / Lickety-Split mash up. Can't that one just be Blossom? Meanwhile change Buttons to Glory or Moondancer. There, I'm happy!

Hi! You can almost never be confident that a particular ribbon you find goes with a certain pony; the best you can do is get close. As Taffeta said, some ribbons are faded (they are around 30 years old now!). Also, to further complicate things, the same pony sometimes came with different shades of ribbon . . .

Yes, the card art and cartoons aren't always correct about ribbon color, although they are usually at least in the right ballpark.

Hi! I don't have good price checks for you except to say that I had the two pink hoops and sold them for $8/each. I wonder if this is a case (I suspect it is) where you might make more by breaking up the set? Aside from the goblet (these are normally a little more purplish, but nevertheless this looks to be the right one), the dark pink banner is probably the highest-priced accessory you have here b/c that thing is really hard to find!

Selling accessories separately though is a bit of a pain though so you may want to just pull out the goblet and the banner and sell them separately and then sell the rest together.

To my knowledge the Spikes for both castles are the same, but I'm not 100% sure. I had the lavender castle as I child and unless there was a slight color difference I don't see that there was a difference.

Good luck!

Pony Corral / Re: FF butterscotch question
« on: January 19, 2016, 04:20:14 PM »
Yes, so much variation in Butterscotch's color! The FF one tends to be duller in color. The CFs in particular have a lot of variation and I find them hard to tell apart. In my opinion a very pretty pony regardless of hue!

Price Check Archives / Re: PC on some G1 ponies
« on: January 19, 2016, 04:16:08 PM »
Normally I would never ever question a Hathorcat PC (I've relied on them myself!) BUT I would say your Sunbeam is closer to $2-3. Her symbol is really worn, and she is a dime a dozen in that condition. Otherwise yours does look pretty so $2-3 may be a little low, but in my experience the demand for Sunbeams w/ faded symbols is low and the prices are low accordingly. Sunbeam w/ perfect or near-perfect symbols however I've seen go for $20+.

Parasol can be a tough sell b/c she is super common and not sought after (probably the least sought after in Year 2), and you can pretty easily find NM/M ones in the $5-7 range. So depending on the symbol wear be prepared to sit on her if you're selling (I usually just throw her into a lot).

That Bow-Tie is very pretty and has nice hair, symbols, and body color, so yes, if the marks can come off she is worth more and more desirable than the two mentioned above. Cotton Candy also looks very nice, and I find that CCs in good condition move faster than you'd expect considering CC may be the most produced pony of all time.

Take care!

Hello! I sold a pearlized Baby Blossom on eBay within the last year for $19.50. The hair of mine was perhaps in slightly better condition (I wasn't suspicious of a haircut) but overall they were in comparable shape.

The other thing I really hate is faded hair. Was that on the poll? I didn't see it.

I forgot that one! Added it! I am always saddened by a white-haired Posey . . .

DappledHazel--Off topic (my own topic!) but your profile pic with Baby Bubbles in the bathtub may be one of the cutest things I've ever seen.
