Off Topic / Re: Weird Job Interview Questions
« on: May 11, 2015, 02:55:18 PM »
No weird questions here but I want to know how you answered yours!

I started by saying that the universe was massive and we only have the means to explore a very small part of it.  I said I remembered an article a few years ago that reported the alleged discovery of fossilised bacteria on a meteorite from Mars.  If that was true (and I haven't researched the matter in any depth so I'm not saying it is or isn't), it's not a huge leap to think there might be cells or other life forms on distant planets.  It probably wouldn't look anything like the life we're used to here on Earth, and whether or not it's intelligent is an entirely different discussion.  I finished by saying it was unlikely we'd ever know for sure, and while it's possible we might one day prove its existence, we couldn't prove that it didn't exist.  Very deep!

By the way, I wasn't expecting so many replies, and some of the questions are amazing... I don't know how I'd answer a lot of them!  Keep them coming!  :)

I have lost 18kg (40lbs) in the past year and a half.  My BMI used to be just on the borderline between overweight and obese when I was 84kg (184lb).  I put it down to inactivity following a debilitating illness (Guillain-Barre Syndrome) which took several years to recover from fully.  I don't even know what happened but one day something snapped in me, I got sick of being overweight and started eating less and exercising more.  I'm a healthy 66kg (145lb) now. I make sure I do 10,000 steps every day, have taken up running, and stretch daily to improve flexibility.  I also eat a much healthier diet.  I wouldn't mind losing another 6kg or so but I'm pretty happy with myself as I am now.

I avoided photos when I was overweight so I don't have many, but I think the most dramatic difference is in my face.

Big high five to anyone who has lost the extra kilos or if you're just embarking on your weight loss journey.  It's not easy but it can be done!

Off Topic / Weird Job Interview Questions
« on: May 11, 2015, 03:23:12 AM »
I have been job-hunting since my previous contract ended a month ago.  I was recently asked in an interview if I thought there was intelligent life on other planets.  I must have given a good answer, as I was offered the job.  What's the worst or weirdest interview question you've had?

This stuff looks like a good colour match but I'm not so sure about the application...

You want to put your pony in the dryer?

Naturally  :).  However, it may work equally well with a hair dryer or hot water, and it's inexpensive, so could be fun to experiment with.

Is there a reason why people no longer do that?

Thanks, that's really helpful.  I was thinking of Rit Aquamarine but like you, I thought it could be a bit too blue.  Teal on the other hand looks a bit too green.  Maybe I'll get both and experiment.  Though I just had a look at the Dharma site and shipping is not bad at all (but takes 3-5 weeks).  So that's definitely an option if the Rit doesn't work out.  Thanks again!

I'm going to have a go either way, so any suggestions as to brands and shades would be great.  I have plenty of white hair to experiment on first!

54
If so, what brand and shade of dye did you use?  Photos would be great too.  :)

Pony Corral / Re: Advice on posting the giant g3 plushes please
« on: April 25, 2015, 01:08:31 AM »
I sent a giant Minty to the US.  I unstuffed her completely except for her head (at the buyer's request) and packed her in a cardboard box.  From memory she was about $70 to send.

I wasn't sure about them at first but they've really grown on me - I love them now.  I have all three plus an extra pink one.

I have two of her, though I don't collect G4 so they'll both be for sale.  She does have a nice colour scheme though - I wish the G3 had been made in those colours.

Symbol.  The term "cutie mark" sounds infantile.

Pony Corral / Scribbles - safe to sunfade?

Just wondered if this pony does well in the sun, or if she's likely to burn.  Has anyone tried?

Off Topic / Re: Musical Instruments! Who plays what!?

I played the cello up until recently.  I have injured a rather important finger and I'm unsure if I will ever play again.
