Pony Corral / Re: How Did You Start Getting Into Other Gens?
« on: April 23, 2017, 12:43:45 PM »
I grew up with G3, and had no idea about the previous generations until I began collecting a few years ago. I was restoring McDonald's Minty and discovered the G1 Minty while googling her.

I made mine! I used some old phone boxes that weren't needed since they were the perfect size for my G3s. I put some wrapping paper on them to make them more colorful.

Last month, I brought home several ponies from a flea market, and now that they're all cleaned up, I was curious as to how much they're worth.

G1 Caramel Crunch- Near perfect condition. No marks or scruffs anywhere on body, hair still has factory curls. Doesn't look to have been played with very much.

G1 Crunch Berry- No marks on body. Symbols have a few rubs. Hair is a little frizzy but could probably be fixed with conditioner.

G1 Magic Message Windy- No marks on body. Hair is a tad bit frizzy. One symbol is rubbed badly, other is sort of fine.

G1 Party Time- Probably the worst of the bunch. Neck plug was cut off but I was able to put her back together. Cuts on neck visible up close. Small cancer/mold spot on shoulder. Hair is slightly frizzy.

G1 BBE Baby Frosting- Small scratch on one eyelind and pindot mold on horn and body. Hair is perfect.

G3 Starsong (Tinsel in hair, glittery cutie mark and wings)- Seems to be discolored on non display side. Other than that, perfect.

G3 Pinkie Pie (walking pose)- Hair is just a little frizzy, otherwise perfect

G3 Wysteria- Same condition as Pinkie Pie

G3 Citrus Sweetheart- Mystery stain on non display side and on nose. Cutie mark is smudged.

G3 Royal Beauty- Only flaw is a stain on cutie mark.

G4 Twilight Sparkle (Unicorn, on all four legs)- Perfect condition

G4- Shining Armor- Perfect condition

G4 Princess Cadence- Perfect condition

Child me would be surprised, considering ponies weren't at all my favorite toys to play with.

I normally just go to the Build-A-Bear store nearby to get the ponies. The employees actually remember me every time I go in since I'm always getting ponies. Sadly, I didn't get a Minty yet.

I haven't been able to find any since I started collecting ponies a few years ago but I'd snatch up any petite ponies. As long as it's a pony, I'll take it!

I just got them in the mail, and they're all pretty clean aside from a few scruffs on some ponies.

But baby Whirly Twirl is in near mint condition! Only problem is the slightest trim to a couple plugs of his forelock. Other than that, he's gorgeous!

Pony Corral / Re: What ponies would you love if not for one thing?

I would probably love the G4 ponies a whole lot more if there was more variety. It seems like all Hasbro releases is the same six ponies with maybe a few extra characters once in a while, just with slight variations with each release. Plus they're pretty expensive for their size.

I just purchased this lot of ponies on eBay, and was curious on the value of these ponies. I paid $20 for the lot, and I'm curious about how much these ponies are worth individually. This is my first time buying ponies online.

Yeah, rehairing her seems to be my only option. I already have plans to order some hair, but where would I find the right tinsel?

Toys that aren't the same six ponies we already get all the time.

I'm starting to feel like I might need to replace the hair. When I comb it, it just starts to fall out. :/ I've tried everything except for fabric softener and if that doesn't fix it I'll probably rehair her. I'm beginning to become very frustrated with this pony.

If you're thinking of rehairing her anyways have you tried a straightener? I know they're not great for some types of tinsels (can't remember which for the life of me right now) but it might be worth trying as a last ditch effort.

Also, how long have you left the conditioner on and how much do you use? I've found that using a TON (4-5x as much as I put on my own head) and letting it sit for hours helps a lot.

I already tried a straightener. It helped get most of the frizz out, but the hair still felt dry and brittle, even after conditioner, which I left in there for several hours both times I tried it. I've never seen such stubborn hair.

Also, while I had been combing through the hair, an awful lot of it came out into the comb. I normally have a little bit of hair come out while brushing/combing, but with this pony, way more came out than normal.

Try fabric softener before scissors. It works for mine, i let them in a bowl with it for hours or a night if it is too damaged and then comb it with the softener before rinsing it off with hot water. And then comb normally.

Thanks for the advice! I can't believe I've never heard of using fabric softener before.

I recently added this Sparkleworks to my collection after buying her in pretty terrible shape, but she still had the little charm she originally came with, so her condition didn't upset me too much.

But now I'm trying to figure out what to do with her hair. I've gone through two rounds of conditioning it, and while that normally fixes my other ponies, it's doing no good for Sparkleworks. Her hair is still horrible. It feels dry and possibly singed.

I know I'll probably have to rehair this poor girl, but I'm wondering if there's anything I could possibly try before I remove all of her bad hair and put new hair in. Rehairing is something I've never done before, and I'd like to do what I can before I rehair her.
