I have 2 MOC Jewelry Babies and you can see through the plastic that the cotton has already separated, so even if you get them moc and decard them yourself you will still have this problem. I also have them loose (they are my favs) and you can tame the tinsel quite nicely using a variety of the anti-frizzing techniques mentioned on the boards. I don't pull out the cotton strands because I am afraid some would break off and then stick up like twigs. I prefer to just make them cooperate

Hi guys, I'm hoping someone has some advice on what I can do. I just got a Peruvian Baby Cotton Candy from ebay. At first I was excited to get her, even though it wasn't a steal of a deal I felt it was at least in her upper price range in value based on condition. However, she has arrived and it is quite clear she has mold/mildew inside her. When I squeeze her body the smell is very strong and distinct. There is discoloration at the base of her mane that looks like a greyish/greenish mold color and she has some small discolored sections on strands on her tail (that's very odd, it's like the strand section itself was dyed that color, greenish/blue). Some people may not mind this or notice so much but I am very sensitive to mold I can't return her because the shipping cost (overseas) to and from is just a hassle and monetary loss I don't want to deal with. So, what can I do? Her head is only super tight. I've never seen a head on so dang tight. I can't remove it to clean the inside. I don't want to use bleach on the hair and make it brittle/dry and damage her further. Any suggestions that are known to work without damaging the hair? I may have to wind up reselling her but now I don't know what a fair price would be considering the mold, which I would of course be forthcoming about. She is otherwise in pretty nice condition and I would rather be able to salvage her. Oh, is her hair suppose to be white or pink? Thanks!

Oh, Hasbro, if only you realized how many of us would be buying big and medium sized playsets if you put in new characters...
How many of us bought the big castle accessory set and Rarity's carosel just to have Sweetie Swirl and Starbeam Twinkle? *Raises hand*
/raised hand I would probably buy the big playsets even with repeat ponies but the small/medium playset...meh. I will be passing on these guys. If anyone wants to sell me the furniture/accessories without the ponies I'd be glad to take them off your hands!

I wouldn't do the switch to bags if I were you. I have heard too many horror stories over the years. Too many issues to contend with...moisture, beatheability, heat build up, symbols sticking/peeling off on bags, etc. I have NEVER heard a horror story from anyone using the archival tissue paper method. It's the method I have used myself for years, in very extreme conditions, with no problems. I've had to store and transport our collection of over 1000 ponies several times in the last 14 years.
I don't know enough to comment on the silica packets. Never used them.
#1 best storage advice I have is temperature control, no sunlight and air circulation. Even high moisture environments can be dealt with if the other factors are in control. This is just my personal experience but I have had perfect results so far. I'm sure there are a few variations of storage others can add to the thread!
Oh and Mercury Star...are you saying hi to me in your siggy? LOL!

Is that an original 80s fakie (they have speakers in their tummy and talk) or one of the newer rereleased fakies without the speaker? The older ones are definitely harder to find and worth more. Also, a friend told me the green is the most common color so that may affect her value. All this of course mainly applies to those that already have a PRnS. Those that don't will value her differently, duh! She's very cool. Nice find!

I think we are all overlooking something here.
When G1s came out there was no internet and toy collectors were looked down upon unless they were antique toys. Most people looked at G1s for what they were...toys. They were bought to be played with and some people became collectors but not many were thinking of them like future investments or debating a pony's future value.
When the interenet came out we were all able to find ponies easier and learn about ponies we didn't know existed. Prices spiked to unsustainable levels (just like they do whenever a new country pony is found). Eventually a "true" price emerges. Think of German Nightlight. Due to demand she has been in a consistent range for many years as does Mimic. They are not all that rare, just sought after. In some cases there are rarer ponies that go for less because they aren't liked as much.
When G3s came out I don't think anyone was really taking the availability factor into account. Nor were many thinking of the amount of years that had passed to come to G1 values. Many G1s currently fall in the $10 or less range and that is close to what they cost when they were brand new on the shelves...not much of a value increase. Considering it has been 30 years for many of these ponies I think it is unrealistic to be tearing down the value of G3s so soon. Guys, it's only been 8 years.
There are some G3s that will remain valueable and others that will increase in value but it's going to take another 10 years of people thinking they are worthless and donating them to charity or throwing them away until that happens...just like the G1s. Kimono, due to her limited release may yet see her day and she stands a better chance than many G3s.
Also remember that G2s prices have fluctuated greatly in the last few years alone. G4s are the new "it" and are skewing the prices across all gens due to limited collector funds as well as two distinctly different groups of pony collectors competing. Let's face it. The brony community is willing to pay far more than any of the older gen collectors.
Long story short. It's way too soon to speculate. We need at least 10 more years to see a change, maybe more. The interenet changed the collecting game considerable and I think one of the biggest impacts is it's going to take a lot longer for things to appreciate in value and they will have lower ceilings.
Stop looking down on the G3s like the ugly stepdchild or a waste of money. Remember why you collect in the first place! If you are looking to pad your retirement, you are collecting the wrong stuff.
That said....
I remember when the TAF Project Pony came out and was very hard to get due to only available to press or something. Then a couple years ago a huge pile was found and they went from being worth several hundred $ to $35. Still love that pony regardless of value!
