The Dollhouse / Re: ID/PC on Strawberry Shortcake dolls
« on: April 07, 2015, 05:43:56 PM »
They're both from the second issue of SSC dolls about 1982. Lime Chiffon and Strawberry herself are pretty plentiful. The Lime Chiffon  has nice hair, but everyone who has posted is right about the prices, though I might go a tad lower.

Also, in my experience the flat versus curved hands thing isn't that big of a deal. Only a few characters were made in the flat-hand release, the really cool ones came later :) Also, the flat hand dolls didn't come with pets. I personally prefer the curved hands and have no interest in collecting the flat hands.

Here are my lists:

Favourites:
Bow Tie
Tootsie
Posey
Sugarberry
Powder

Least Favourites:

Collectors Pose
Bubbles
Quackers
Lofty
Dancing Butterflies

Honestly, Dancing Butterflies is the one that annoys me the most, because I feel it actively detracts from a pony's beauty! The face gets all covered up, everything seems compressed...

AMAZING. Given the popularity of Batman and MLP and the potential for crossover in the fan bases... definitely collectible!!!

Off Topic / Re: British? English? Scottish? Irish?
« on: March 31, 2015, 10:04:49 AM »
I'm not British, but I am a nerd who lives in a former British colony whose head of state is still the Queen, and I thought I'd bring in this graphic to help explain.

England and Scotland are both within Britain -- so most English and Scots will accept being called British, but don't you dare call a Scot "English"! The island of Ireland is actually split into two countries -- the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, the latter of which is part of the United Kingdom, which also comprises Scotland, England and Wales.

Canada! (Specifically, Manitoba, in Treaty One territory, the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe peoples and homeland of the Métis)

Question: How old is your daughter? (totally fine if you don't want to post that, just wondered as it might determine what you give her and when) :)

Yeah, to me it all depends on the age of the child and even more than that, their... disposition. I don't have kids, but I do look after my friends' kids and we play with my collectible toys, but it's usually a situation where we're playing together. Also, the child in question usually gets the different vibe of taking dolls carefully out of cabinet to play with, you know? Even at age 4 or so.

I worry more that the government will use this info to try and ban second hand shops from selling old toys.

There was a kerfuffle a number of years ago about this on Etsy. I think there are some jurisdictions in the U.S. where there are laws prohibiting the sale of old toys as "toys" -- however, I think a lot of people get around this by writing a disclaimer that the item they are selling is for collectors and not for use as a toy by children.

Of course, that wouldn't work in a thrift shop.

I, too, will join the Brigade of People Who Will Save the Children by Taking All the G1 Ponies ;)

Often ponies (new, old, fakies) will get bagged together so they're easy to spot.

That's nice of them.  I swear they purposefully put the ponies in separate bags at all the thrift stores I go to.

LOL that happens here, too! It also depends on how the donations come in -- if someone donates a big pile of their kids' ponies, they'll all be together in a bag or box and then it's easy for the store to just put them together in bags. I think they basically do it as fast as they can, so it's more about what gets pulled out of the donation bags/boxes.

I've been following this thread since it started and it's been a fascinating read, and, for the very little it is worth...

I BELIEVE!

As far as I know, the only metal parts in Playmobil are in vehicle axles, which don't strik me as terribly prone to rust because they're relatively open to the air.

The main thing you would want to watch out with re: Playmobil are decals. So if I were you, I would fill a sink or container with hot soapy water and sort into it the pieces that do not have decals.
