Pony Corral / MLP Panel at Gen Con 2012
« on: August 20, 2012, 07:56:13 PM »
I just got back from Gen Con, the gaming convention I go to every year. This year I got a nice pony surprise. They were having a MLP panel this year! It was titled "My Little Pony: This Panel is Magic!" The panel was at 6 pm on Sat. Before the panel I was at the costume contest because my friend was in it this year. I left costume contest at about 10 till 6 (after my friend had already been on). It took me about 5 minutes to get to the room where the panel was being held. I went in, found a seat, got my camera out and got settled in. A couple minutes later a con staff member realized that there was more people showing up then would fit in the room. There couldn't be anybody sitting on the floor or standing in the back because it was a fire hazard. If the fire marshal caught them letting people do that the whole con could be shut down.

The staff member asked who had a ticket for the event. I didn't even know that there were tickets! The panels are always free. The staff member made everybody that didn't have a ticket leave the room.  :( That included me. But I wasn't stupid. I went out the door and stood right next to the door frame. I was pressed up against the wall right behind a sign that told what would be going on in that room on that day. It's a good thing I'm a tiny person.

After everyone that didn't have a ticket was out (which was at least 90% of the people), the staff member asked for people that had generic tickets. I didn't have one. At this point I was sure I wasn't getting in.  After those people were in a guy gave two extra generic tickets to the staff member so two more people could get in. The staff member guy held up the two tickets, one in each hand, and said "Ok I got two more tickets." I ripped one of those tickets out of his hand so fast that he just stood there and stared at me dumbfounded.  I hated being rude about it, but I was NOT going to miss this panel if I could help it.  I felt I needed to get in because I wanted to share this panel with all of you. As I was going in somebody else donated a HUGE string of generic tickets. There had to be at least 30 tickets there! That's when the crowd started pushing and grabbing for the tickets. I found a new seat which was better than my first one and got settled in again. After they had filled all the seats, the staff that was running the panel gave up most of their chairs (about 6 of them) so they could get a few more people in. I thought that was really nice. Even though the whole thing was a madhouse, it was very much in the spirit of FIM.

The guy running the panel said that they were doing this as a test run to see if MLP would do well at Gen Con. I think it went over VERY well.  :P

My videos of the panel are uploading as I type. I'll ETA in the links when they're done.

Ok, they're done.

Mods, the panel had a PG-13 rating. There are a few harsh word used, but they are all in the first video. If you're not ok with the few words then I'll need help editing the video so they can be bleeped out.

Pony Corral / Re: MLP:FiM Posters - Free with Purchase at Wal-Mart?
« on: August 04, 2012, 05:18:26 PM »
Sigh. Drove around today in 90 degree weather with no air conditioning in my car. None of the 3 Walmarts in my area have any posters yet. >.<

I did find one box of blind bags and got excited for a moment, but they were wave 1 still. Bad walmart! Why are you stocking new wave 1 when other walmarts have wave 3 and 4?

Want these so badly though, I will keep checking! Knowing Maine, we will get them last.

At least you can *FIND* the Blind Bags!

I hit two different Wal-Marts today. No awesome cool end caps. No posters. No Blind Bags at all. The second one I hit did have the FS Princess C. But I already have the Target set with her and Luna.

Pony Corral / Re: Where can I find G4/FIM lunch boxes?
« on: August 04, 2012, 05:06:12 PM »
I found the backpack set at Kmart. Had to search the whole store for it. Why can't they put all the back to school stuff in the same spot like everybody else?  The "lunch box" is considerably smaller than any other kids' lunch box I've seen. But just because it won't work for what I wanted it for, that doesn't I don't want it.  :P I still bought it. It's still ponies. I'll just use it for something else. I ended up picking up a Disney Princess lunch box at Wal-Mart. That will do for now. Someday I *WILL* get a G4 lunch box!  ^.^

I was hoping somebody had seen one, but didn't post about it.

I might be going on a shopping trip this weekend. I just didn't want to drive all over creation looking for something that isn't sold in the US.

With all the back to school stuff out now, has anybody seen any G4 lunch boxes? I need a new lunch box for work and this time I want a pony one. I know somebody found a couple in Canada.... What about in the US? Has anybody found one? Or should I just forget it and get a lunch box from the Disney Store?

Oh my GODS THOSE PICTURES. I have noooo desire to go to something like that ugh!!! I can't believe your friend couldn't get one after all those lucky moments!! :(

I know..... When I was first reading it I kept hoping for one more miracle. so close, yet so far.....

I just hope that they still have some set aside for the website. When do they normally go on sale online? I've never had to buy on online before.

I have a guy that goes to SDCC every year for me. He's been picking up ponies and other exclusives for me for 6 years. This is the first year that he was unsuccessful in his quest.

Here's a copy of the email he sent me with his :muffin: Pony horror story. (He gave me permission to post it here.)

Quote
I had no idea how popular that pony was. I usually show up at 10am when
the doors are already opened and no lines to the exhibit hall. I got to
the convention extra early just for you, 6:30am. So I waited in line for
30 minutes until they let us enter the building at 7:00am and I ran
upstairs to the Sails Pavilion to get in the hasbro ticket line (the 2nd
Line). I was told Friday that tickets were going to be passed out at
8am, I was maybe #200 in line, that line stretched outside of the sails
pavilion and became an amusement park line. After an hour and a half
(8:30am), I got the ticket to go down stairs to get in line at the
Hasbro Booth. I know enough about Con to know every booth keep stock on
a daily limit of figures that they sell. So I knew I had to find a way
downstairs to get to the hasbro booth before the masses. And
unfortunately the doors open at 9:30am and my ticket said "can't be used
until 10am", I knew it could be sold out by then. But I was hoping for a
miracle.

I found a way to sneak past security using my pro badge, I made it down
stairs through the back of the convention, which places me closer to the
hasbro booth. (score) I made nice with some people that had handicap
stickers, they were waiting to be let in early before the main crowd.
They were let in at 9:25am, and so was I. Miracle.

I ran to the Hasbro booth, and got in my 3rd line, I think I may have
been #25, don't even know how those people even got there before me, but
# 25 is better than 200. A guy walked up to me and asked if I was buying
the Transformers Bruticas for $100. I said no, so he asked if I could
buy him one. He seemed kind of shady like an exhibitor that was going
back to his booth to sell it for $400, and he more than likely had
bought his limit. But I said sure as he passed me the $100. Just as he
did, a mad rush of people came out of no where getting in line for
Hasbro, it wrapped around the booth, and they started a 2nd line away
from the booth by the back wall. Insane.

The line began to move and the Hasbro security guard asked me for my
ticket,  I showed it to him, and he said I can not go in until 10am, I
said I had a panel I needed to be in at 10. He did not care. "Here take
mine" I heard as the shady guy handed me his Friday ticket from the day
before, which the guard then accepted. So I was allowed in. Another Miracle.

As I said, I was maybe #25 in line, and when they reached the 4th person
in front of me, they pulled down the Pony sign that said "In Stock." I
could not believe it, to come so far and to be so close. And the lady
said they were not just out of Pony's for the day, they were out of
Pony's for the rest of the show. You should have heard the gasp, and
shrieks of horror that came from people. I could only imagine the anger
on the other 1000 people behind me in line when they found out. And
worse of all, I dreaded having to tell you this bad news. It has always
been a challenge getting you your ponies every year, but this year was
by far the worse, but to to fail you, is what made it even harder. I am
so sorry. :-( :'(

If I had known I would only have one chance to get you the ponies, I
would have missed my panels on Thursday and Friday to do so. I wish
Hasbro would pre-sale their merchandise like Mattel does. Since Mattel
and He-man are the only things I care about at Con, I just pick them up
at the hotel next door when I feel like it, just show my receipt, no
stress. But Hasbro, they seem to want to torture their fans. I hope you
will be able to get the pony online some how, and hopefully not pay a
fortune.

Here are a few pictures of the sanity. Photo 001 is outside trying to
get into the building. Photos 004 & 005 is the Hasbro ticket line. They
had us zig zagging like an amusement park. And one feel good photo of
the San Diego Trolley.

Once again I am greatly sorry. I do hope you get your Derby some how.

Here are the photos he sent me.
