Pony Corral / Re: Any one know about the VA meet?

@mystagic
The last two years we've been pretty much on the NC border in Emporia. We've also done Palmyra (Charlottesville area), Chesapeake, and Hampton. Depending on where you are we may be able to work out a car pool if you decide to join us.

@MsTwilight
I love Chincoteague! I finally made it out there last summer on the way back from The Fair. I wish it was a practical option for a full on meet. Maybe a mini meet (and maybe avoiding penning time?)

Yes we are still having a meet this year!

Again the meet will be in August, and we are still looking at Fredricksbug as the location, with the 11th or the 18th as the date.

I need some pony time too.

Pony Corral / Re: Who ran Pony Clue at last years fair?

I'm the mother of one of thse girls. I did contact the other mom (the one who ran Clue at the table,) and I will be PMing you myself in a bit.

We all have times when we can be short with others without really meaning to be.

Made a second trip back to the shop today to acquire TAF Buttons for another member here. I spoke to "S," a female pony oriented employee, but not the OP on the G4 boards. She was great about listening to what I had to say about the condition and pricing of the ponies. She'll be going through the PE and the play sets on Monday, so I'll be going back then.

When you lose sight of your small child under a pile of them while you're doing inventory.

My Apple used to call those moments her "pony baths."

The ponies were definitely not priced to move. The old man who runs the shop needs to make a profit of course, and the store in general has loads of cool vintage geekery.

A few of the prices were a bit crazy. An Fair quality moonstone was tagged $24.99, a FF Blossom with noticeable spotting and darker head was also $24.99. The birthday party set was missing Celebrate and Party Time was marked $79. Yum Yum did have her wings, but the tabs were broken. Broken tabs on the wing of Rosedust as well, but her hair was gorgeous.

As for PE, the box was badly damaged. The man said he had not gone through it himself and put a definite price on it yet, but that he did think pieces were missing. I mused out loud that it was probably the forks ;)

I did see Deb's collector guide out on the table and asked him of that was were he was getting his prices. He said that he was using it for identification but the listed prices were "so out of date and low" that he would buy him himself for those costs.

To be fair, I was in "let's pretend I don't know much about the ponies and am just getting some for nostalgia's sake" mode. At no point do i think he was aware that I was on a recon mission. I didn't tell him how far from what we consider fair, acceptable, and movable his pricing was. He seemed like a pretty cool old guy who loves collectables. Bless his heart ;) .  He is willing to negotiate about a 10% discount on most of it, but even so, not great deals.

I did ask when the employee who made the post on the G4 boards would be in since she seemed to be in charge of dealing with most of it. If I can get back tomorrow I'll see if I can't find out more of what's going on and see if I can talk some sense into her about the pricing. Most of the ones they had I didn't need personally, but they should be better available to those who do want them. Cary isn't exactly a hotbed of pony activity.

Oh, and in case anyone is wondering, Sweetheart, baby Crumpet, a manky Trickles, and a lap tray have a fantastic new home.

I am at the place right now. Not impressed with the selection, and the pricing on everything is high-ish. I will be making another trip out this weekend, so if anyone is looking for things in particular, please PM me.
