Off Topic / Re: Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files: Any fans?
« on: April 22, 2012, 10:42:05 AM »
This will probably make people not like me but... I'm not a fan.
I had some grumbling with season one (the 'ghost train' one in the cemetery that they couldn't debunk... if you slow the video down you can clearly see it's a spider. The 'dartmoor beast' had already proven to be a lady's dog. And the sasquatch running one was just filled was flaws- there's clearly a camera crew on the ground yet bill's thermal reading only picks up the two cast members?) but I kept watching it for the few good episodes, like the nightcrawler one that no one seems able to explain.

But season two... I felt like they should just rename the show "let's do a night investigation!" They seem intent on proving that paranormal things exist- like the argentina news video where the 'alien' is clearly CGI but it's not until they get there that they realize the impossible shadow and the guy admits it was a hoax... yet they do a nighttime investigation anyway? And they apparently do NO research (ex the 'battle la' photo negative is available for people to see, and the newspaper admitted long ago that when it was printed, they did things like darken the sky and increase the lights from the gun shots to make it look better... or the 'monster' in the river in florida, which a couple of other shows like Monster Quest had already covered and determined what it was) though it did just make me laugh that their new 'photography expert' is the model girl from The Price is Right.

Sorry if I upset anyone.. it's just annoying to me because the show seemed like it had such promise and I liked the idea of someone tackling the online paranormal videos people post, but no one on the team is really a skeptic and it seems less like them figuring out if the photos/videos are 'fact or faked' and more like them trying to prove paranormal things exist.

Pony Corral / Re: show me your - display cabinet
« on: April 12, 2012, 02:16:52 PM »
I have two glass door cabinets; the small black one was rather cheap and isn't that great, and the big white one I got from IKEA after lots of research. From what I read, display cabinets are greatly a 'you get what you paid for' thing, so I splurged on my IKEA one. The doors push open though, so it's not the  type you want but...

I've never done a costume, but here's one of my favourites I've seen:

Yup! And the deep-sleep (makes it so Furby doesn't wake up unless you turn it upside down) option wasn't available in Gen 1 Furby adults :o

Oh, and I also have the "sleepytime bed" that forces Furbys to go to sleep, it's very handy

See now, if mine had the "sleepytime bed" feature, I might have collected them, but I think now I'd always be paranoid of them waking up on their own...

ponylady- I can totally imagine that happening! Apparently Furby impacted me more than I realized, since I can easily remember exactly what the voice sounded like o.O

I had one as a kid, back when they were huge. Man did it creep me out...
I like them in general, but the one I had would randomly start talking out of no where. And it didn't help that I used to sit it next to the tv with me, so it picked up and repeated the most random phrases. The only thing I really remember was one night I woke up to it talking so I buried it under stuff in my closet, only it went off again a hour or so later, so I got up and put it in the oven in our kitchen... and then woke up later to my mom screaming, as she apparently turned the oven to preheat without checking inside of it first... >.>

Why do vegetarians eat vegetables and humanitarians not eat humans?

If vegetable oil is made from vegetables, and olive oil is made from olives.... what's baby oil made from?

I have the same problem with gyms- is there a way you can go at a less crowded time? (like really early morning) If not, I always try to remind myself that usually when people are bored, they aren't staring/judging those around them but rather they're thinking their own things and their eyes just wander (I know I'm not the only one who's been in class or on a bus and get lost in thought, only to realize that my eyes were staring at someone unintentionally)

As for email, I don't think it really matters. If you want a more professional-sounding one, but want to keep your old one too, you can get a gmail account (which is free) and they can forward any emails you get to the aol account so both end up in the same mailbox.

Like for me it's why do you park on a driveway and drive on a parkway?

Much of the English language doesn't make sense that way, such as transporting a box in a car is called a shipment but transporting a box on a ship is called cargo.

Why are cigarettes wrapped in the flimsiest excuse for plastic, but kid's toys are locked into plastic thick enough to hold back an angry lion?

In one of Ellen Degeneres' stand-ups, she talks about how batteries (which are virtually indestructible) are packaged in the military-worthy hardcore plastic, while lightbulbs (oh-so-fragile) are in thin, thin cardboard with two open ends.

Personally, I love crazy warning tags on items, like most christmas lights say "for indoor or outdoor use only"- I want to know where ELSE you could put them. Or washing machines that say "do not wash clothes while still on body" and even have a picture to go with it, like who actually did that?
