Trader & Shipping Support / Damaged box- what would you do/say?
« on: June 03, 2016, 02:34:20 PM »
I've bought a lot of stuff on eBay over the years and this is the first time I've ever pulled a  face when I opened the box.

I bought a 1995 Happy Holidays Barbie last week, NRFB, I felt like I paid a pretty good price, the box and doll looked really nice in the auction photos.

It came today, and good lord.. It was not well packed.

The doll box was crammed into a cardboard box barely bigger than the doll box itself. That box was in turn placed inside a larger box with no padding of any kind. No paper, bubble wrap, nothing.
The exterior box looked like it has been dragged down the street behind a horse and I could hear the interior box rattling inside before I opened it.
The doll box has a huge dent in it, which bums me out majorly. The dent is big enough that it's messed up the back, sides and top.

So obviously I need to say something to the seller, but I'm not entirely sure what to say, or what I wanna do. The doll looks really nice still but the box is a wreck, if I kept her I would probably de-box her and the price I paid is definitely too much for a loose doll.  Do I ask for a certain amount back?  Or do I just message the seller and explain how the doll arrived, express disappointment and see what they offer?  My husband thinks I should just return it but that's such a hassle... I dunno.

Thoughts? Script suggestions? I'm more worried about initiating contact than I should be, I know, I haaaaaaaaate expressing dissatisfaction but, ugh. I was looking forward to getting this doll and it was a letdown.

Thanks to Sweet_Stuff my Lullabye Nursery has almost all of the accessories I was missing!!! My babies are very excited to have more stuff to play with... even if they're a bit cramped right now. And there are several more babies waiting for spa days I will have to find places for still but that's another day's problem.

Price Check Archives / PC on a handful of G1s
« on: April 30, 2016, 01:17:36 PM »
I'm sorry to have to ask since I know most of these are pretty common ponies, I've looked on eBay but prices seem all over the place on some of these so I thought I'd ask for opinions... I've never sold before! :) I want to offer reasonable low prices but I don't know what reasonable is!

I still need to take photos but here's the descriptions I've written up for them:

Boysenberry Pie:
Hoofmark: ’84, China
Hair: Very soft, silky and clean
Body: Some slight discoloration on her back near her neck and on her neck seam, a little regrind on her back/rump, a slight discoloration (age spot?) on her back right leg. Other very small, hard to see stray marks here and there. Still has a little bit of her scent left if you hold her up to your face.
Eyes: Very slight rub to right eye
Symbols: Excellent!

Firefly:
Hoofmark: ’83, Hong Kong
Hair: Very soft, silky and clean
Body: Faint stray marks here and there, a small sticky spot on her neck, a very little bit of ground in dirt around the hooves
Eyes: Rub on her right eye
Symbols: Some glitter loss but still visible

Silky Slipper:
Hoofmark: ’89, China
Hair: Very soft, silky and clean – a little bit dry at the very ends
Body: Very faint stray marks here and there, some slight rubs to the bows of her shoes, over all pretty nice and clean!
Eyes: Great, no rubs
Symbols: No flank symbols since she’s a ballerina, but the one on her back looks perfect to me

Baby Moondancer:
Hoofmark: ’84, Hong Kong
Hair: Very soft, silky and clean, possible trim to underside of mane, not sure if it’s a trim or just uneven hair
Body: A noticeable age spot on her stomach and a faint one on her back/rump and another underneath her tail. Body is still pretty white but there are stray marks here and there and her ear tips and horn tip are a little yellowed.
Eyes: Great, no rubs
Symbols: Very good, there might be slight glitter loss

Baby Gusty (BBE):
Hoofmark: ’86, Hong Kong
Hair: Very soft, silky and clean
Body: Large age spot on her neck and some discoloration on her neck seam, smaller age spot on the back of her left ear. Both ears and horn seem slightly discolored, right ear especially. Still pretty white over the body area
Eyes: OK, might be starting to go a little rusty around the edges but the lids look good and so does the color.
Symbols: Excellent

Baby Shaggy:
Hoofmark: ’87, China
Hair: Very soft, clean, I have tried my best to preserve the factory curl, ends are a bit dry but overall looks very good.
Body: Permanent marker on underside of hooves (apparently a girl named Lisa loved this pony once!) Rest of the body looks very good, there are some very faint marks here and there but overall she looks really nice.
Eyes: Slight rubs, more noticeable on her right eye
Symbols: Good, slight rubs

Baby Tiddleywinks:
Hoofmark: ’84, Hong Kong
Hair: Very soft, silky and clean, very pink!
Body: Overall very good, some very faint marks here and there
Eyes: Great, no rubs
Symbols: Good, very slight rub on her right side

Dibbles and Nibbles:
Hoofmarks: ’87, Hong Kong
Hair: Soft, silky and clean, ends are a bit dry on both
Body: Both are pretty good, both have slightly shiny spots on their backs, stray marks here and there
Eyes: Great, no rubs- when I got Nibbles she looked as if a kid tried to give her blue eye shadow, I’ve mostly cleaned it off but if you look closely you can see a little bit of it. I think they both look lovely overall!
Symbols: Both appear excellent to me

Pony Brag Arena / A very sweet anniversary brag. <3
« on: April 26, 2016, 05:21:40 AM »
Today is my 8-year wedding anniversary with my husband. We decided to give each other our gifts last night and I was very, very touched by what he got for me.

Tux n Tails and Satin n Lace! Aren't they pretty??

I wasn't after them particularly or anything, but he did some research- he snooped in my Pony Room and he read the G1 MLP Collectors Inventory and decided that they would be a good anniversary present, so that's what he set out to get.

They make my gift to him (a little G1 Transformer named Frenzy) seem rather dinky by comparison but he assures me he's quite happy with how things turned out, present wise.   Now I'm going to have to add their accessories to my Want list!

Pony Corral / Show me your favorite Before and After!
« on: April 02, 2016, 08:00:10 AM »
The other day I found a pretty dirty Baby Milkweed at a thrift store. I'm really happy with how well she cleaned up (though I bungled her mane curl, as I am known to do).

Pony Corral / Friends/Family who support collecting?
« on: March 20, 2016, 07:24:16 PM »
I've seen a lot of threads here about family/friends/whoever who react negatively to pony collecting, and it always breaks my heart.  I'm very fortunate to travel in geeky circles and to have a family with geeky inclinations so I have not encountered much in the way of bad reactions to the pony collecting. I've never felt the need to hide my interests and I frequently post pictures of my collection and discuss it on Facebook. My coworkers often stop me in the hall to tell me they like seeing my pony pics!

Last summer when I had a major pony score at a thrift store (over 20 ponies, a Lullaby Nursery and a lot of accessories) my family was excited for me and they were there for the un-bagging of my loot. They were interested in what I had and asked me questions about the ponies ("what's that one's name?" etc). My dad had the funniest reaction when we took Creamsicle out of the bag and he went "..I think this pony has a growth disorder..." and I had to explain it was a giraffe.

I was wondering if anyone had nice stories about their family/friends supporting their pony hobby, helping them find ponies, whatever.  ^.^

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Show me Cabbage Patch Ponies!
« on: March 02, 2016, 04:51:25 PM »
(I'm assuming this goes in Toy Box and not Pony Corral since, though ponies, they are not MLP...)

I have been growing enamored of Cappage Patch Ponies as of late. I only have two.. the purple one is from the childhood herd, the tan one is from my coworker's childhood herd that I adopted.

I love their friendly little faces!  Anyone else have any CPPs?

Pony Corral / Pony dreams!
« on: January 26, 2016, 06:08:31 PM »
Last night I dreamed I was walking around a junk yard and found a near perfect Rapunzel and a raggedy Fairy Tails bird, just sitting on top of some rubble. Dream-me picked up the pony, examined it, and said "this has to be a dream!" Then I woke up.

I often have weird pony hunting dreams- anyone else?

Pony Corral / Show me your Sea Pony displays!
« on: January 21, 2016, 06:57:05 AM »
I'm spending my vacation working on getting my pony room established. Even though they still all need spa days, I'm trying to plan ahead and figure out how to fit in the sea ponies. I only have one adult (lacking her shell) and the rest are babies- I think I might have more floaties than babies though. :p just curious to see how others display their sea ponies, since even in their floaties they don't stand up all that well.

Pony Brag Arena / Pony Kindness from Sweet _Stuff + More!!!
« on: January 13, 2016, 11:04:02 AM »
(Better late than never, right?)

Last week, as I was lying around the house moaning over the weather and nursing a headache, I got a very nice surprise-- a Random Act of Pony Kindness box from Sweet_ Stuff!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

A WHOLE BOX OF PINKIE PIES! :D  All in all, there was an absolutely DARLING plush, a bubble-blowing set, some stickers, some McD's ponies, a super cute eraser, a Ponyville (I think?) pony, some combs and a teeny tiny little tape dispenser that has REALLY captured my imagination for some reason.  It's like... tiny enough for Pinkie to actually use. I love it. XD

So a huge thank you to Sweet_Stuff!  It was very sweet and thoughtful of you to send me all this! It perked me right up when I was having a bad day last week. :lovey:

And THEN... the previous weekend, at Savers, I got all this for about $9!

SS Magic Star is in pretty nice shape, all in all. I still haven't taken the leg warmers off of her, I kinda like them.  Poor Galaxy has a haircut, they ALL need baths... plus there were some LPS in the bag and a couple of fakies. I have plans for the fakies... they shall be my guinea pigs for my very first customs (since I have a few more just like them lying around).

________________

And to cap it off.. last weekend at the movies, I got a Pinkie Pie plush out of a claw game machine. $5 to play until you win!  Not bad! I'm considering going back to see if I can get someone else. Pinkie is (clearly) my fave G4 pony but these things are awfully cute... (and Pinkie enjoyed watching Star Wars with me)

So January has been a pretty good pony month so far. ^^

Pony Brag Arena / Awesome pony Christmas! Dream Castle! Mimic!
« on: December 25, 2015, 03:45:11 PM »
My husband really outdid himself. He paid attention to the things I chattered about over the year and set up a very very nice Christmas for me.  A couple of these ponies I already had (he got mixed up and thought I needed Quackers and Fizzy when they were actually my favorite childhood ponies) and I actually recently got a Munchy through a very very nice swap... but I assured him I was VERY happy to have a second Munchy.  She's one of my absolute favorite ponies, she's so beautiful, and to have two makes me feel very, very special. (I won't have two for long though- I'm going to return the swap pony to my partner, it just feels too greedy to actually KEEP two!)

Dream Castle is really nice- it's very nearly complete, I'm only missing a couple things.  I actually had a bag of Dream Castle accessories that I found at a thrift store over the summer, so I was able to fill in a few gaps but I'm just a couple items short of the set being complete!

And Mimic!  She's STUNNING!

That's right, ya'll..... I GOT A MUNCHY!!!!!  :yippee: :cheer: :hearts:  One of my main grail ponies!! Given that our budget was $20-$25, I never expected to get a Munchy! Or a TAF Buttons for that matter either! Just look at her beautiful silky blue hair... ::strokes Buttons and Munchy::  (Sweet_Stuff is, indeed, the pony genie.  She apparently got an amazing deal on a large lot of ponies! )

I also really love this Morning Glory!!! She was at the top of my Flutter pony list, because I always wanted her as a kid and never got her.

I'm also very excited about the sweets and extras.. so much cute Christmas stuff, and ornaments that look kinda like my kitties! Even some sparkly balls for said kitties, they are pretty excited about them.

::dances around the living room with her new ponies:: (pay no heed to all my Christmas-wrapping junk that got shoved to the side so I could open my swap box on the table and minimize cat involvement..)

AND here's Sweet_Stuff's brag, originally posted on page 2!

I won an auction for a pony and paid right away last Sunday. Wednesday rolled around and it still wasn't shipped-- the seller messaged me and apologized (busy holiday week and all) and said she would ship it on Friday. Well here it is end of day Saturday, pony is still not marked as shipped.

How long would be polite to wait before I message the seller again? I'm thinking if it's not marked as shipped when I get off work Monday evening I will message her again but I didn't know if that would be rude...I don't want to badger her but I don't think I should have to wait indefinitely, especially since this is for a swap, not for me.  -_-

Off Topic / Favorite Thanksgiving food?
« on: November 25, 2015, 07:00:19 PM »
(If Thanksgiving is your thing, of course!)

I love turkey, noodles and rolls. I make deviled eggs every year to bring to the gathering... They look horrid (I'm very clumsy) but they're tasty so the family lets me get away with it.

What's your favorite dish to eat or make?
