Pony Corral / Retro ponies, Heart throb
« on: September 12, 2020, 11:13:52 PM »
Hi!

Main question: looking for photos of the retro Heart throb that aren't official. Also, is it not Hasbro that make the retro ponies anymore?

I haven't been here in a long time and haven't bought a pony in a long time - original or retro. Did get Starshine when those retros came out and now I got interested again when I saw they had released Sparkler (hard to find a good original one). While looking up Sparkler I saw some other retros I wanted. But I feel there's something off with Heart throb, besides the mane not being curly. Does anyone have it and can compare it to the original?

Pony Corral / MLP 80's sneakers?
« on: May 20, 2017, 10:37:36 AM »
Hi!

Haven't been on here for ages, not even just reading, so an extra hi.

I was wondering, were there ever My Little Pony sneakers during the 80's with a horse shoe pattern on the soles? My mind might be playing tricks on me.  I was out walking in my sneakers and there were tracks from horses on the path and I remembered, or thought I remembered, that I had MLP shoes as a child in the 80's. True or false memory? I usually have a good memory but this one is a bit uncertain.

Pony Corral / Is this mould or cancer?
« on: August 19, 2013, 08:19:41 AM »
Are these spots mould or cancer? It's Medley btw. She doesn't smell like mould or any other bad smell, she actually smells MLP. She's clean on the inside, just has those spots on her neck and inner neckring. Maybe that her body and hair was a bit sticky, as in plasticisers leaking sticky, but I don't know if Medley is one of the ponies that is known for doing that.

Pony Corral / Different laces on the wedding dress. Enlighten me.
« on: July 11, 2013, 04:08:35 AM »
I've just noticed that there are two different laces on the G1 wedding dress. I had a dress that I got in a lot from a Swedish seller, who I think was selling her childhood ponies. So, that wedding dress must have been from the European version. However, I've seen a few Confettis with a different lace.

Here's a Confetti that was sold on Etsy. The seller says she has been stored in the attic so it sounds like it's someone's childhood pony, that should have her original accessories.

Also, do all veils have that silver detail that looks like a crown? Did some come without it, is it just hard to tell from some photos or has it gotten lost in play? So, different releases? If there are similar differences on Satin n' Lace I'd like to know that too. Tell me more, please. :)

Pony Corral / Ragged pony wear. What to do with it?
« on: June 11, 2013, 03:01:29 AM »
I bought From the Designer Collection a while ago. It was a bit of a last minute decision and I didn't look up what it was supposed to look like properly, I was just glad that it had all of its accessories. It was described as having a tear in the frill which it did but I later realised that the entire bottom half of the dress was missing. I don't think the seller was aware of this, I think it was just someone selling her childhood toys, not a collector. Anyway, I luckily found a new whole dress at http://ronsrescuedtreasures.com/ so the outfit is now complete. However, I don't know what I'm supposed to do with the broken dress. I don't like having clutter lying around and I don't wish to keep it. Do you think anyone could use it for spare parts? The rose is there, and the velcro is good. The bodice is also good and maybe some of the frills. Also, there's a slight colour difference in the frills. The broken one is most likely UK pony wear and the whole one US pony wear.

MLP Nirvana / Scandinavian / Australian Gusty, shorter mane?
« on: May 22, 2013, 06:35:00 AM »
I've recently bought a Scandinavian Gusty, listed as "My Little Pony 10" on Swedish eBay. The head was loose just as it was on all the other ponies the seller had. She was not the original owner, obviously, so she didn't know why the heads had been loosened. I know that some people take the heads off to clean all of their ponies, regardless of their state. I was also told by a friend that her dad had loosened the heads on her childhood ponies so she could play with them in the bathtub when she was little - so that it was easier to dry them out.

When I got the pony and had studied it for a while and compared it to my US Gusty I realised that the mane was shorter. It doesn't look like it has been cut and inside the head it looks like a legit Hasbro mane base. The tail has its original metal washer and "clip"(?). I googled pictures of Scandinavian Gusty plus I had a few saved on the computer and the mane seems to be shorter than on US Gusty. Does anyone know if her mane is supposed to be shorter?

At first I thought the tail on the Scandinavian Gusty felt thinner but they look about the same when braided.

Tail and mane. It was hard to photograph but this is the best I could do.

Here's a photo of my two Gustys before the Scandinavian one had been fixed up. Its messy hair looks just as short as on some in the collage above.

Pony Brag Arena / Bright Eyes ... and a ribbon for TAF Fifi
« on: May 16, 2013, 03:39:50 AM »
So this is really just for one pony, Bright Eyes. I've been wanting to get her for a while now, which is strange because she doesn't fit with my other ponies that are mostly light pastel. Orange is definitely not my favourite colour but I think she's beautiful. Recently there were three up for sale on eBay and I got one of them - for a good price too. The photo wasn't that good (flash) so I couldn't see what the eyes looked liked but the seller described them as having the iridescent coating left and they did! I decided to get her a replacement ribbon. I wanted an orange one but at the store I figured red would work too. I also tried with Bow-tie's white ribbon but I think I'll let her wear the orange one. :) While buying ribbons I picked up a green one for Fifi, actually two different shades of green, since I thought it would look good on her and I think it works. She's quite new to me as well. Not a rare pony at all but I think she's beautiful, especially in person.

I've always thought that Bright Eyes' name was a bit strange and looking at her and her symbol I thought she could have been named Seven instead. Then I realised that maybe one is supposed to have a good night's sleep and wake up at seven with bright eyes? I decided to read her backcard story at the wiki to see if that would give me a clue but ... are those stories weird or what? It made no sense at all.

Bright Eyes' backcard story:
Everyone was having so much fun playing games and telling stories with Bright Eyes at the Lullabye Nursery, that the hardly noticed it was almost bedtime. "We want to play some more," the babies yawned. Bright Eyes knew exactly how to make them go to bed. "Gather 'round," she said as the babies formed a circle around her. She placed an alarm clock in the middle of the circle and tapped her foot. The soft tic-toc of the clock grew louder and LOUDER, until the clock began to spin like a top and the alarm bell rang a merry ring-a-ding-ding! When it stopped, the clock danced with each laughing pony, whirling and twirling her around the room until she was so tired that she willingly climbed into her crib. "Sweet dreams," Bright Eyes called as she tucked the little ones into bed and blew them a goodnight kiss.

(My favourite strange backcard story so far is Moondancer's. I'll never look at her in the same way again.)
Spoiler
Moondancer was sleeping peacefully. Awakening with a start, she found Twilight beside her. "Cotton Candy is missing!" said Twilight. "Have you seen her?" "Cotton Candy should go on a diet," yawned Moondancer. "She ate my favorite bluegrass and my prettiest wild flowers. I put her in hibernation until winter!" Twilight was stunned. "Free her from the spell, Moondancer. Her friends are worried!" "Is it winter already?" teased Moondancer. But she freed Cotton Candy from the spell and even called the West Wind to give her a ride home.

She was in good condition when I got her so no reason to show a before picture. I just fixed
her bangs. There's a small rub on the symbol on the DS but it's in the white part so it
doesn't show.

Love the eyes. I only own another twinkle-eyed pony, Gingerbread, and her eyes are
not this good.

I might want to get the comb for her too.

A friend helped me buy a G1, complete with sticker, ribbon, comb and brush. The pony was only sold in the UK so she let me borrow her account, she's not a collector. She's sending me the pony when she gets it and I'm paying for everything.

She just told me she had sent me the pony and that it was: a pony, a sticker and a comb. The ribbon might be in the tail as in the photo but the comb isn't just missing its brush, it's a "clear plain comb".

So, it looks like I'll have to contact the seller once I get my parcel. I'll do it via my friend's eBay account. Here's my question: Should I say who I am and that the pony was bought via a friend's account or should I "pretend that I am my friend"? The seller might not have been persistent on only selling to the UK because the ad was made via a mobile phone and maybe it's just the default setting? Or maybe the seller won't like that the pony was sold outside the UK? It would be easier for me to explain everything and say that the pony was sold to another person, that would also explain why it took a while before I contacted them. What do you think I should do?

Pony Corral / Styling TAF Sundance's hair
« on: March 22, 2013, 02:27:05 AM »
I have a TAF Sundance to clean, well her body is clean now, what is left is to fix her hair. I know that the UV parts of it are sensitive to heat, as in flat iron, but what about just washing it, does the water need to be lukewarm? Can too hot water ruin the hair as well? Is it okay to wash it at all?

Edit, May 2013: The rest of my friend's ponies are added to the bottom of the first post. And I've just started to sunfade Moon Jumper.

A friend brought home her childhood ponies from her parents' (in another town). I went over to have a look and brought some of my ponies. I offered to take home and clean some of her ponies - she's not a collector plus she doesn't have the time to clean them. Here are some photos.

I love Fifi. I didn't know she was this adorable in person. I think I need to get one of my own.

If anyone has any cleaning tips for her I'd be glad to hear them. I've used: baby wipes, magic eraser and toothbrush + hot water + dish soap + soap for floors. I then tried acetone and later bleach pen under one of the hooves, nothing happened.

She actually gave me Moon Jumper. Yay! I told her how much she's worth and that she doesn't come up that often for sale but she still wants me to have her.

Here are the rest of the ponies:

Fixing Megan's hair was quite icky, wet doll hair. *shudder* I bought a new ribbon for her pony tail.

Glittering Gem was my friend's favourite pony so I wanted her to end up looking really nice. She had some dark spots on her that I had to sunfade. All of them didn't go away but I'm very pleased with the result. I didn't want to sunfade a coloured pony forever, to be on the safe side.

And no the pony didn't fade in colour, it just looks like it in the photo. I don't cover the symbols too carefully when I sunfade and there's no difference in the pink around the symbols.

Baby Rainribbon's blue stripe was a real mess. I had to iron it a couple of times. How come certain colours in a pony's hair can end up being so frizzy/messy and others don't?

Pony Corral / Restored saddle blanket, Parade Pizzazz
« on: January 15, 2013, 08:02:36 AM »
Before restoring my broken saddle blanket elastics I asked about the length of the original ones on the Arena a while ago. (Didn't get any replies about the length btw.) Apparently it was a very long time ago because I can't update that thread with the fixed saddle blanket. :) It has been fixed for a while but I haven't gotten around to taken pictures of it. So, here it is.

I assume there's a lot of Parade Pizzazz saddle blankets with broken elastics out there and I just wanted you to know that it's fixable. I didn't want to open the saddle blanket by removing the stitches so I cut off the broken elastics. There are bits of the old elastics left inside the saddle blanket because I couldn't get them out. I tried widening the opening by the old elastics using a thick needle, then I pushed in the new elastics with the help of a pair of small pliers - it took me a while to figure that out. Then I just attached it with a couple of stitches. I might have made them a bit too long but it works.

Pony Corral / Colour / discolouration on Twinkler?
« on: January 14, 2013, 05:15:00 AM »
I've been interested in getting a Twinkler for a while and have noticed they can differ in colour. I saw one on ebay that was in the EU (good for me) and seemed to be okay. I didn't have much information or pictures to go on, so I took a chance - nope I didn't ask the seller for more info. It just arrived and it's overall good (eyes, blush, symbols and hair) except that it smells smoke (fixable). My main concern however is its colour, it wasn't as purple as I thought it would be.

My question is: What is Twinkler supposed to look like? Is she a nice blueish purple or is there any form of brownish tone to her? I have googled pictures and she does look very different in them. Maybe she easily discolours and it's hard to take pictures of her as well? My Twinkler might also be discoloured from the smoke. Another thing is that she's quite hard, is this the normal ageing process for sparkle ponies or was she like this to begin with?

If she discolours when ageing, do you think it's the course of time, the sun or perhaps something else? I'd might try sunfading a small part of her just to see how it goes. If the sun did this to start with it's quite a bad idea though. :)

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Here she is. She doesn't looks so brownish / reddish from a distance but also not the more
blueish purple I've seen in other photos. (This is my photo and not the ebay photo
where she looked more purple - it wasn't photoshopped.)

Pony Corral / Length of Parade Pizzazz's elastics?
« on: September 20, 2012, 11:08:06 AM »
I'm going to try to restore my Parade Pizzazz saddle blanket and give it new elastics. I have just bought silver elastics that seem to be a very good match but what I would like to know is the length of the original elastics. If anyone that has the saddle blanket with unbroken original elastics could measure them and tell me how long they are it would be much appreciated. Preferably in cm but inches work too.

Pony Corral / Taking care of clear tinsel
« on: August 29, 2012, 12:25:39 AM »
I recently got my first pony with clear tinsel, G1 Princess Royal Purple. The tinsel isn't that bad but I would like to tame it a bit. However, after having looked into it, it seems like it's not that easy. The stretch and pull with tweezers method does not work. Seems like heat could be a problem too after what I've read. Any general advice on how to take care of hair with clear tinsel?

Should I just give the usual warm (but not too warm I suppose) water and conditioner treatment and shape the hair by rapping it around the pony's legs and be content with the result I get from that?

What are you not supposed to do with clear tinsel? Seems like some people have used flat irons etc on it and it has worked whereas it hasn't for other.

Is the quality of clear tinsel the same on the G1 princesses as on the G3 ponies? Does the methods for G3s with clear tinsel apply to the G1s and vice versa?

Pony Corral / Twinkle eyes and princess gems?
« on: July 18, 2012, 05:54:22 AM »
My childhood pony days were more or less over in 1988. I remember when the princess ponies came and thought they looked a bit weird because they didn't have a proper symbol, I never got one. I don't think I ever saw a twinkle eyed pony in the store and the BNG princesses came out after I had quit playing with ponies. What I'm trying to say is that I've never seen these ponies mint. I now own one TE, two princess ponies (Royal Blue and Sparkle) and two BNG princess ponies (Skylark and Brilliant Bloom).

I can see the remains of the coating on the eye of the TE pony and I know that they're supposed to have it but there's also some remains on Princess Sparkle's symbol and I think there's some on Princess Brilliant Bloom's gem on her forehead. There's absolutely nothing on Princess Royal Blue as well as on Skylark.

Question: Did the gems on the princess ponies, both the first kind and the BNG ones, have shimmering coating?
