Pony Brag Arena / mul-ta and court2882's private Advent Swap 2013
« on: November 30, 2013, 09:36:13 PM »
When it was announced that the official Advent Swap wouldn't be running, I volunteered for a private one with the fabulous court2882. :xtree: Life has lately been keeping her busy (AFAIK there's no reason to worry though) and I'll have things to do this month as well, but I'll try to keep this interesting and updated every few days.

Day one, and time to open the box! I apologize for the bad photos, I took them in the morning when I didn't have much daylight yet (not a particularly smart move). I just want you to notice this "Santa" wrapping that made me laugh so hard -

HO HO HO!! There was a cool card featuring Court and her hubby as well. :)

On the first day of Christmas my (swap) partner sent to me… a Posey Rose with pink hair. I mean, look at that PINK. Posey Rose is apparently one of the ponies that are so much prettier in person. She always looked a little plain to me in photos, but now that I have her in my hands I just love her pastel tones. One more ballerina to go to complete the set, plus some more accessories.

Today, I had the pleasure to welcome Zora's OOAK dark drops Gotitas to my Lemon Drop army. Unlike the light lavender Gotitas, both her drops and eyes are a striking bluish purple, but what I love most about her must be the "crazy eye"

Here's the box I picked up at the post office today (my desk Minty is included for scale). Looks kind of big and fat for a single Lemon Drop, doesn't it?

And when I open, this emerges out of it:

A giant mutated Toola Roola! :freak: With a note from Zora, stating she was out of bubble wrap wanted to give me an early Christmas present. Silly, as if the chance to own her dark purple Gotitas wasn't enough, but oh so sweet!

Now for my Variant Army Pony…

More than one member has asked to see my Lemon Drop army. I'm not much of a photographer and have display issues - I don't have enough shelf space for them all (unless I wanted to keep them gathering dust on the windowsill) so I had to dig most of my army out of a box for this occasion. Anyways, here they are, all lined up for you. Say hello to 1. Garde-Kavallerie-Regiment "Zitrönchen!"

Counting the newest arrival, it totals 17 adult Drops which may not sound like a lot… but all of them are different. I'm even missing two really common variants, one of which I had but she has gone MIA, and keep passing on the Greeks. Way to go.

Yes, there is a German baby, even though I don't really collect babies… I don't know what happened. I left my Lemon Drops unguarded for too long, and this is the result…

Pony Corral / Dream Beauty barrette question...
« on: October 08, 2013, 12:14:28 AM »
Accessory people! I will have to pester you with yet another question regarding Dream Beauties' barrettes...

Based on what MIB photos I've seen, Skysplasher's barrette is definitely darker than BnG Braided Beauty's. How about Fairflyer, who also wears frilly purple hearts? Does her barrette match Skysplasher's, the BnG one or neither?

...other than a bonnet that I received in a lot with a set of Sweet Dreams Pony Wear? The material appears the same as the edgings of the suit and the lace looks familiar. A nightcap variant or something from another set? It doesn't look like the UK Bedtime one to me either. Or is it MLP at all?

Trader & Shipping Support / Ebay woes, what to do?
« on: August 25, 2013, 01:28:53 PM »
I recently bought a few ponies (listed separately) from a newish ebay seller with less than perfect feedback. I already had issues with shipping - they sent me an invoice with an outrageous amount of added "seller charges" (basically doubling the amount due) that made me freak out. However, it turned out that they had simply misunderstood invoicing, I apologized for having suspected them and helped them to correct the mistake (!). They mailed my stuff out and immediately gave me positive feedback.

So far, so good. The ponies arrive, and behold - one of them, described as being in "lovely condition," has had a rather visible hair trim that was neither mentioned in the description nor shown in the photo. I messaged the seller on the 21st and have not received an answer.

I know I took a risk buying from a newbie seller who apparently is not a pony expert and, on top of everything, doesn't seem to have totally mastered ebay, but on the other hand I wouldn't like them to get away with vague descriptions and ponies not as described. A return for a refund would leave me on the negative, but should I nonetheless open a case to see what the seller suggests? I wanted to deal with them peacefully because they seem to mean well, but their lack of communication is not leaving me much choice.

Could anyone help me with a PC on these?

MLP Nirvana / Italian tail lengths?
« on: August 01, 2013, 01:04:56 AM »
I've acquired a pink-haired Italian Cherries Jubilee variant in need of some TLC. Her tail is horribly frizzy and I'd like to replace it with an authentic Italian tail. I have a donor tail from a Peachy, but it's been a long time since I last had a non-CP Italian and have doubts about the correct length. The tail my CJ had when I got her in my hands is the length of a CP pony's tail, but based on the photos I've seen it could have originally been longer.

Could someone measure their Italian (preferably pink hair) CJ's tail? If it indeed is supposed to be longer, where should I look for a replacement? Perhaps Italy Bowtie?

Last but not least, could someone sell me an upgrade with great hair and factory curl? ;)

It's about a couple of pony auctions ending in 2 days. I've asked the seller and they won't ship outside the US. PM me for details.

Pony Corral / Identifying Mail Order Lemon Drop - this time w/photos!
« on: July 30, 2013, 02:10:34 AM »
When I asked for photos of Mail Order Lemon Drop on the Arena last time, I got none! Now I have what I believe to be one in my hands and thought I'd share what I've been able to find out... Your thoughts are welcome. What I'd still like to see is a MIP photo of the Mail Order pony.

Threadography:
1) An old thread
2) A slightly newer thread initiated by me
3) A recent, rather confusing thread

Based on what information I've been able to extract (see especially thread #1 above), the MO version can be identified by hoof stamps and the color of her symbol:
Euro playset: 4 hooves stamped ("© 1982 Hasbro / Pat pending / Made in / Hong Kong"), DARK PURPLE drops
Mail Order: 4 hooves stamped, LILAC drops

Both my Hong Kong 4-stampers; the light symbol one is what I'd be tempted to call the MO pony. I believe her hair is close to factory settings. Her "squiggly" symbols are identical to the dark ones but much lighter in color.

A comparison photo of 4 common Lemon Drops. From behind: HK 2-stamper ("© '82 Hasbro Pat Pend / Hong Kong") w/blue drops, China, HK 4-stamper (MO), HK 4-stamper (Euro playset). The MO 4-stamper's symbols are very close to the Chinese version in color. I'd have included the HK 2-stamper with lilac drops, but mine has gone AWOL. I'm positive I had one, but apparently not anymore.

See the pink spot on MO LD's symbol, like the machine ran out of purple? I talked to gotbunny the other day, she has what I believe to be a factory error MO LD with ample pink spots like these on her NDS symbol.

I've been thinking of alt rehairing some Lemon Drops lately (only the suitable baits seem to elude me!) Swirly Whirly's all yellow scheme is not everyone's cup of tea, but I'd like to see something similar on a Drop and 1) was wondering if SW's hair color matches any other ponies or Dollyhair, because it could be a nice shade. 2) How about Dollyhair's Butterfly that is supposed to match Dancing Butterflies? Would it be close to the average LD's body color? Photos anyone? Other suggestions?

MLP Nirvana / On German "normal release" Princess prices
« on: July 18, 2013, 01:47:27 AM »
Are the "normal release" German Princess ponies considered more valuable than their US counterparts? By "normal release" I mean the ones that look just like the US versions save for the pat pend stamp that has been removed.

Pony Brag Arena / My Show Stable is complete!
« on: June 19, 2013, 12:13:58 AM »
Why a Show Stable brag? Because of the 5-year-old me. I've shared the story of my stable before, but this would perhaps be the place to share it again. As a child, I never had one, but the kids next door had. To my disappointment, they treated their ponies pretty roughly, like cut their mouths open. The stable saw some equally rough play, and I secretly wished I could rescue it and it would become a home for my ponies. I didn't, and the stable was forgotten.

When I started serious collecting, the 1st issue Show Stable and the associated yellow droplet pony were among my first wants. I got mine in fair condition, with most of the interesting accessories missing but with its original, albeit tattered, box. I've sold most of this first collection, which was to be the stable's fate as well. I listed it on an online auction site. No one bid. I thought about it again and didn't relist. Luckily. A few weeks after the auction closed I got an inquiry about the stable. I told it was no longer available - I had decided to keep it.

This year, I set about the quest for the missing accessories, which was madness: it would probably have been easier to sell the old stable and get a complete or near complete one on evilBay or whatever. I just couldn't give up on the original that had survived the ups and downs of my collecting. The awesome little.fox forwarded the last few harder-to-find things to me from a Swedish auction site. :fox: (Okay, the purple ribbon is still missing.) I'm at my parents' right now and finally able to put all my Show Stable stuff together for photos.

This is Galaxy, my childhood no. 1 pony, at the home I wanted him to have. The dogs are called Brandy (on the bed) and Cognac. Galaxy may look like a D'nP Player, but is actually called Galaxy. Also, he is a he. Don't let the lipstick fool you.

Lastly, because one can never have too many Lemon Drop variants, here's one more thing to do with the Stable: stuff it fulla 'Drops. Starring a pair of Limone, a Gotitas, a HK Lemon Drop and Macau Folly.
