Off Topic / Mayonnaise or Miracle Whip?
« on: August 29, 2016, 09:43:38 PM »
For over 30 years I've been under the impression that I hate mayonnaise. Why? Because all my life, my family has referred to Miracle Whip as mayonnaise and I thought they were the same thing. Recently, though, someone bought a jar of actual Hellman's Mayonnaise and I've had it on subs two evenings this week. I love it. I always wondered what it was about mayonnaise on a fast food burger that tasted good when 'mayonnaise on a sandwich' always tasted wrong, and now I know... My family normally uses Miracle Whip, and I don't like it.

With this in mind, I thought I'd ask everyone here a couple questions:

1. Which do you prefer: mayonnaise or Miracle Whip? (Or do you like both, hate both, or happen to be one of those who swears there is no difference?)

2. Have you ever had a situation where something changed your mind about a food you previously thought you hated (or loved)?

I'm curious if something like this has happened to anyone else.

Off Topic / Anyone Here Like Pizza Pizza?
« on: August 21, 2016, 11:04:39 PM »
It's a Canadian pizza chain, so not everyone may have heard of it. It's not my favorite pizza chain--that's a semi-local one called Brenda's Pizza Factory that has amazing garlic butter crust--but they DO make really awesome chicken strips and potato wedges. I live in a tiny town, so being able to get pizza or chicken delivered to my door is nice.

Also, they've now sent me two survey requests where I've been able to spend about 5 minutes and get a code for a free box of potato wedges (worth about $4.50 with tax?) which is awesome.

I figured I'd see if anyone else had heard of them. If not, what -is- your favorite place to get delivery / takeout?

Off Topic / Book Title Help?
« on: August 19, 2016, 10:34:58 AM »
So... I'm done writing a novel, I'm in the midst of revisions and I'm almost ready to hire a cover designer to do the cover. There's just one teensy problem: the working title for the book is one that I don't think I want to keep.

The book is the first story in a series of novels called the Sealer Saga. The series is made up of several novels and novellas and these follow a naming scheme. This is one of the shorter (under 50k) stories, and titling for those follows the format "To (blank) A Dark (blank)".

The current title for this novella is "To Woo A Dark Lady", and it pairs with a second novella called "To Wed A Dark Lord". When I've mentioned this to several people, though, they've all said they don't care for the word "woo"--it's an old word and not everyone may realize what it is / means, plus with the word "to" next to it the sound is off.

Alternative titles might include:

To Claim A Dark Prize
To Play A Dark Game
To Court A Dark Lady
To Win A Dark Lady
To Tempt A Dark Lady
To Claim A Dark Destiny

... I am totally open to further suggestions, though.

Here is the back blurb so you will have more of an idea what the book is about. Oh! The genre is paranormal romance if that helps any. :)

Some Kisses Are To Die For...

Chosen as a Champion, Carita of Bel Auryn thought she would spend her days fighting demons. Instead, she is drawn into the latest scheme of the Moon Goddess, Ruby: a ridiculous contest to choose the man who will have the "honor" of fathering her child. When Ruby encourages Carita to choose a competitor, she picks the man she is most drawn to--and immediately regrets it.

That man is Lucian Veradayne, the Lord of Death. He knows he must win Ruby's game at any cost. It doesn't matter that he has avoided her for over two thousand years. It doesn't matter that she hated him enough to maim their first son. And it definitely doesn't matter that he would much rather woo her endearing but brash Champion, Carita. The Soul Well, the source of all creation, has given Lucian a vision that he and Ruby must have another child. A child who will save the world.

But winning Ruby's affection and resisting Carita will prove to be the least of Lucian's problems. He and Carita are not the only ones who have been drawn into Ruby's game. Someone else wants to get close to her, and they are willing to kill to make that happen. Will Carita and Lucian be able to protect Ruby long enough for a victor to be named? And if so, will they be able to walk away from each other to ensure the Soul Well's prophecy comes true?

So, does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? I'd love to hear them. Thanks for taking the time to check out my thread. Have a nice day.

Off Topic / GAMERS: Electronic Entertainment Expo {E3}
« on: June 14, 2016, 05:56:07 AM »
Am I the only one following all the coverage? If not, let's talk!! E3 is an annual gaming conference that happens in California every June. All the big gaming companies join together to show the latest stuff they are working on.

EA and Bethesda had conferences on Sunday.

Microsoft, Ubisoft and Sony had conferences yesterday.

Nintendo is today at 9 pst / 12 est.

In addition to this there are lots of game demos. The best places to find those are to google 'Nintendo Treehouse' or to go to IGN or GameSpot.

Anyway, thought I'd post about this for anyone who might not know about it. :)

Pony Brag Arena / Private birthday swap with Akemi-chan
« on: May 20, 2016, 10:54:06 AM »
Last Thursday I received a lovely box from Akemi-chan for the private birthday swap we decided to do. We started shopping in late February and shipped in late April. The swap was kinda belated since we have early-to-mid February birthdays, but hey, who doesn't love a chance to have all the presents and none of the getting older? Anyway, this brag is way past due, but it's definitely not because of the box. Ready to see all the fabulous goodies??

Everything was wrapped in pretty pink and purple with ribbons.

Yay, a totally cute Elsa card. This can join the Belle one Ledbyrd sent me. :D

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

This picture doesn't do the candy justice. Akemi-chan sent a cute pink bag decorated with stickers which was full of Laffy Taffy, Jolly Ranchers and Starbursts. Perfect treats for this time of year--oh, and bf and I enjoyed those while he was here on vacation.

Puppies, kitties and stars. I can already think of at least five people I could use these stickers for when making a box. As many of you know, I love using stickers instead of holiday bows because they take a lot less room to pack.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Little Mermaid sticker flakes, a cute notepad and mini rainbow markers. Again, I can already think of multiple uses for each of these.

Ariel and Disgust have joined the rest of my Tsum Tsums and Itty Bittys on the new shelving unit I just got this week.

Awesome handmade magnets of Sailor Jupiter and her wand. These can join the Sailor Moon magnets I just got once I buy a magnet board.

The last extra before I get to the ponies is this cute Princess Serena. We attached her ribbon to the inside of one of the drawers on my new craft supply box and she is currently guarding all my stickers.

Okay, now for ponies!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The first pony I received is Peppermint Crunch. I've been working to collect the Sundae Best ponies for a while now and she puts me one step closer. I can't believe how pretty the shades of her body and hair are together. I thought she looked nice from pictures, but she's even more lovely in person.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Next I opened Fizzy! I've wanted Fizzy since I first started looking at g1s. I love her colors and her symbols, and she reminds me of summer vacation when my aunt would babysit us and make rootbeer floats. When I was looking at Akemi-chan's interests I learned that Fizzy is the pony she collects, so it makes sense that she sent me mine. :)

I was very excited when I opened Waterfire. I've wanted her since Christmas when PeachyPie sent me a blindbag version of her. I can't get over how pretty she is in person. Between the gorgeous blue and red color scheme and the fact that she has tinsel, what's not to love?

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Next up is my first g1 boy, Baby Brother Drummer! I've always thought the baby brothers were adorable, and Drummer is that lovely blue and pink / red color combo that I am obsessed with. He's currently hanging out with the rest of my g1 babies.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

And of course I saved my favorite for last--Princess Royal Blue! I've been collecting the first set of princess ponies for over a year now. With Royal Blue joining my herd, the only one I'm still missing from the first set is Starburst. I can't believe I'm that close. I still have to decide if I want her and the other princesses mixed into my collection, or whether I want them all together. But that's another topic for another time.

Akemi-chan, thank you for the wonderful birthday box. I absolutely love everything that you sent. I had a great time shopping for you and opening the goodies you sent. :)

Off Topic / Anime Recommendations?
« on: April 17, 2016, 12:16:57 AM »
My boyfriend is coming for a visit in May and we've decided that it's a great chance to check out some new anime together. (Our main entertainment use to be going through games I couldn't play or beat, but we have a camera set up that lets us do that now.) I know there are a lot of people here who enjoy anime, and I'm sure some of you have seen some that we haven't. We are willing to either buy DVDs / BluRays or to sign up for a subscription service. We would strongly prefer animes that have been dubbed since I am legally blind and subtitles while sharing a screen with someone is not a good match for me.

Here are some anime that one or both of us have liked. I will put an * next to those I know we've both seen.

-- Sailor Moon
-- Fushigi Yugi
-- InuYasha
-- Yu Yu Hakusho
-- Dragon Ball Z *
-- Code Geass *
-- Death Note *
-- Full Metal Alchemist
-- Sword Art Online *
-- Rosario + Vampire *
-- A Certain Magival Index *
-- A Certain Scientific Railgun *
-- Future Diary *

I'm definitely still missing a few, but that covers a pretty good chunk of what we've seen. In addition to anime we also like well written cartoons (stuff like Avatar: The Last Airbender or Young Justice) as well as visual novels (Danganronpa, 999, Zero Escape, etc.) . Any suggestions on things we might want to look into would be totally welcome. :) I'm doing research outside of this post, but I figure asking here will likely lead to some good suggestions and hopefully some interesting discussion. :)

Pony Brag Arena / Private swap with tak!
« on: March 30, 2016, 03:42:39 PM »
Tak and I decided to do a private Easter / Spring swap since there wasn't an official one this year. My box from her arrived today. Ready to see all the awesome goodies?

All the presents wrapped and waiting to be opened.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Non-edible extras: the pouch / case is going to be great for holding washi tapes I'm working with since it hangs from the wrist. Pinkie Pie will look very cute on my purse. The watches will not fit me, but they are from two of my favorite Disney films. I didn't have that sticker set yet and its so lovely and wintery and glittery. Look at how bright and happy and floral the inside of the card is. :)

These treats are going to be perfect when Camp NaNoWriMo starts in two days. :D (If they last that long. I *love* Jellybeans, and so does my mother...) I love candy that I can nibble on when I am writing.

Now for what you're waiting for: ponies!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I've wanted Butterpop for ages and she is even more gorgeous in person. She has the cutest expression and I love the contrast between how vibrantly, merrily pink she is and how stunning the crimson and blond of her mane and tail are. Very, very pretty.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Next up is Baby Stocking. She was hiding inside the pencil case along with Pinkie Pie. She'll look cute with my other baby ponies, and then when the holidays come around again she's going to be just the right size to gaze up in wonder at mini tree. :D

Last but definitely not least we have SHS Starflash. I'm very sure her sister, Twinkler, is going to be happy to see her. I decided when I got Twinkler that this was a set I wanted to complete, so I was totally thrilled to open Starflash. :)

And here is a shot of my three new girls together. :)

Tak, thank you for the absolutely wonderful box. :) I had a great time swapping with you and yes, we will definitely need to do that again in the future. :)

Off Topic / I Wanna Talk About Fire Emblem! :)
« on: January 30, 2016, 06:35:44 AM »
So my birthday is next month and the most exciting thing about that is that I am getting both Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest and Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright from my bf. I've been into the Fire Emblem series since Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance released in 2005. I've owned or played all of the games (Although I somehow lost my copy of Radiant Dawn--that's going to be expensive to replace.) With all of this in mind, I figured there would be no harm in starting a topic about FE since it's running laps in my head like a hamster on a wheel right now.

What was your first Fire Emblem Game?

My first FE game was Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance for Gamecube.

Who are your favorite characters?

I love Mist, Titania, Nasir and Tibarn from PoR. I like Frederick, Henry, Maribelle and Sumia from Awakening.

Do you have a favorite character pairing? (Note: actual marriage didn't start til Awakening and it's totally ok if your pair could not be together officially in-game.)

Path of Radiance: Elencia x Ike; Awakening: Sumia x Chrom; Maribelle x Viake, Henry x Female My Unit; Tharja x Male My Unit

Which Fire Emblem game has been your favorite? Why?

Path of Radiance has a special place in my heart since it was the first I played. I really like Awakening but I'm not done yet so I can't compare properly.

Do you have a favorite unit type?

I love mages and archers. There's little I like more than using ranged units to mess up the enemy's day. :D

Did you play FE: Awakening? What did you think of the support / marriage system?

I'm going through Awakening now and while I like the feature I am finding it very overwhelming. Older FE games had you going from map-to-map in very direct succession. With the added opportunities to grind xp / money / support and the large amount of characters to interact with, making decisions is harder. Plus when you add in marriage, kids and getting things done at the right time (I'm looking at you, Chrom!) things get kinda hectic.

Are you getting FE: Fates Conquest / Birthright?

I'm lucky to be getting both games. Unfortunately, the special edition had sold out on Amazon before I even realized it had gone on sale and now it's way too expensive via scalpers to even think of touching. A real shame: I wanted that artbook and case! (Plus the 3rd digital expansion).

Which version are you playing first? / Why did you pick the version you are getting?

I actually can't make up my mind and I need to because my brother is going to borrow and play the other game (we live in the same house so that's no big deal).

What I like about Birthright: The art style. I've heard this has the better story. The characters seem more sympathetic (or at least have more sympathetic goals)

What I like about Conquest: It looks to be more traditional FE, the idea of playing from a potentially more morally questionable standpoint is interesting, I like the characters (talking about the siblings here); the idea of betraying people my MC has grown to love seems really sad whether the other side are birth family or not.

Have you looked at the artwork and names of the characters on the official site? Who looks interesting to you?

There are a lot of interesting looking characters. Jakob and Xander both impressed in the preview footage I've watched, Azura seems very mysterious, I love Leo's design, and Hinoka looks like she's going to be one of the most kick-butt Pegasus Knights ever.

***

So if you like Fire Emblem feel free to share your thoughts. And if you haven't checked out a Fire Emblem, Awakening and Fates are (or look to be) great starting points for new players thanks to Casual and Phoenix modes (in addition to the classic mode where units that die stay perma-dead.) I look forward to finding out if there are any other fans here. :) If the multiplayer works out well, perhaps we will face each other's armies. :)

Off Topic / Private Christmas Swap with Blondee1982 & Family!
« on: January 20, 2016, 08:47:03 PM »
So back in November Blondee was looking for someone to do a swap with her two boys since they had missed the deadline for the Children's Holiday Swap. I eventually contacted them and offered to swap with them. I don't have kids, but I love a lot of modern toys so I figured I'd still be a good swap candidate. We decided we would ship after the bulk of the holiday rush, and my box came in today. Ready to see what I got?

Here's what I saw when I opened the box:

The first couple things I don't have pictures of. I received a lovely card of Blondee's two sons which I'm not going to post here since they are little kids. I'm sure the arena is likely the safest place on the internet, but still, better safe then sorry. I also can't post the mini M&Ms I got, because I already ate them. I was hungry!

Okay, enough teasing. Let's get on to the pictures. :D I got an adorable Baby Starburst:

Really neat Star Wars socks: one foot is R2D2 and the other is C3PO:

A handmade snowman ornament that will get to hang out on mini tree next year: (Edit: This is a Penguin. How on earth did I think it was a Snowman? I guess that's what I get for opening my box after being up 15 hours on 5 hours sleep. Eek! BF just went "I'll take that Snowman for my Penguin collection if you don't mind." I'm keeping the penguin (he was half joking) but his point is well taken.)

Lots of really unique stickers. The foxes make total sense (you'll see why soon enough), the Christmas kids / elves (?) are cute, MLP I don't have are always a win, and the two sets of Owls are both fabulous in their own unique way.

My first Pokemon plush, Eevee. A perfect choice since I've played full Eevee-lution teams in Pokemon. I think Eevee is one of the cutest pokemon ever made, so I'm thrilled to have him here. (Told ya the foxes made sense. :D )

OMG Itty Bittys! I got Christmas C3PO, Christmas Yoda, Darth Vader and Sadness. They're all so cute! I now have six (!!) Star Wars Itty Bittys and two Inside Out ones. My little Itty Bitty army is definitely into full collection territory at this point. I'm going to need to figure out a designated spot where I'll set these up.

Last but definitely not least are three sets of Lego Elves. I'm really excited about these. When I knew I'd be doing this swap I spent a few days looking at what toys were available now and these skyrocketed to the top of my list. I write fantasy and paranormal stuff, so this particular line of Lego was immediately appealing. I also didn't really have Lego as a kid so these are actually my first sets. I'm very eager to put them together.

Blondee (and family!) thanks so much for the absolutely amazing box. I absolutely love the things you picked for me. the Itty Bittys will fit beautifully into my existing collection. This is Pokemon's 20th anniversary, so the Eevee plush has absolute perfect timing (and will no doubt be joined by a few more cuties this year--but he's the first!), the stickers are really cute and the three sets of Legos will likely keep my busy for a while (been years since I've touched Legos and I've never actually used a set intended to build something specific) which is fantastic because it's really icy here right now, which makes it hard for me to go out (my balance is really bad) and I need things to keep me busy while I wait for safe weather.

Also, it just occurred to me that I am confusing squirrels (the stickers) and foxes (Eevee) in this post. I've been up since 5 a.m. and it's now 11:45, so I'm gonna let that go for tonight. That said, as much as I'm eager to put my Legos together, I think I can wait til tomorrow. Maybe. :) Thanks for checking out this thread. :)

Off Topic / Help Me Name My Music Blog! :)
« on: January 03, 2016, 10:41:37 AM »
Hi guys! I'm having a bit of trouble finalizing the name of the music blog I want to start this year. The goal of my blog is to chronicle the music I listen to, to encourage me to pay attention to what albums get released, to review albums I listen to so I can share my thoughts on them with others and, ultimately, to encourage my readers / viewers (it's going to have a youtube channel) to check out new music, too.

I currently have two name ideas, but I am happy to hear other suggestions.

1. onmyipod.ca -- If I go with this one the blog design will likely be white and silver with black text and pink logos, buttons, etc. The lettering will be edgy and look like it was written in bright pink crayon / lipstick and there will be an image of the latest gen 6 iPod touch, along with the title, on the header. The reason for the .ca is that .com is taken. I have checked .com and it's just a holder, and I have searched to ensure another blog with this name does not exist. I'm really shocked this isn't an actual thing.

Adventages: Will allow my to expand into movies / tv / books / games if I want to. Really easy to remember. Short and catchy.

Disadvantages: Potentially generic. How long will the iPod last?

2. mylittlemusicblog.com -- This is obviously playing off My Little Pony, and the header on this one would have My Little Music Blog, likely in some combination of pastels, along with a chosen MLP (likely g1 since part of what I want to cover is retro music I grew up with). The site would still likely retain the clean background, though the text may either be black or chocolate brown to go with the softer palette choice. If this is a name you think would be interesting, I'd also love an opinion on who the pony mascot should be. There are quite a few options that would be appropriate here. As with blog name #1, this url is available and no active blog is using it. (I don't want to get confused with someone else.) I also wonder if .com or .ca is the better choice. I am Canadian, but .com is generally more universal.

Advantages: blends one of my other hobbies into my blog, making it more personal. I should be able to mix some pony stuff in if I want to. Potentially more unique / creative. .com is more universal.

Disadvantages: Make cause a hit in credibility with "serious" reviewers, does not have as much non-music expansion potential (for now). URL is slightly longer.

Anyway, thanks for reading. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Have a great day!

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Any Lego Fans?
« on: November 22, 2015, 05:34:47 PM »
So, is anyone here into Lego? Which set(s) or themes do you like? Have you been playing with it since childhood? Did you get back into it as an adult? Are you clicking on this thread through pure nostalgia?

I think I played with some Lego as a kid in school, but I have no memory of owning any. However, I recently discovered Lego Friends and Lego Elves and I'm thinking of picking a set up and seeing whether I'm at all into building these. The designs are super cute.

Just thought I'd see if anyone had Lego on their mind, whether its the sets I've listed or anything else completely. :) Also: how big a set should a first set be? (I realize there is no concrete answer.) Do I want a tiny set just to see if it interested me, a medium set where I'll end up with something fairly solid, or do I just wanna go for a big one and dive in?

Pony Brag Arena / Private Halloween Swap With Ledbyrd
« on: November 18, 2015, 10:07:45 PM »
Ledbyrd and I did a private swap in the spring and had a lot of fun with that. So when she asked if I'd like to do one for Halloween I was all for it. We ended up shipping out a bit later then that, but my box from her arrived today so now it's time to show everyone what's inside. :)

When I opened the box it looked like this:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I love the purple theme with hints of orange and gold. Along with the neat designs on the wrap and candy bags, there were some cute mini decorations.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The purple sparkly pumpkin is adorable and will likely be used as a photo prop next Halloween. The little horses are all unique and definitely fit the theme of the box. As for the blue things, they're charms from the MLP charm bracelet set that's been out a while. My wrists are too big to wear that, but I think I may turn them into decorative details on home made bookmarks. (Note to Ledbyrd: original idea did not work.)

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I was excited to open the MLP Blind Bag because I haven't seen any with this design yet. I got the adorable Tropical Storm (got her name wrong in PM.) who couldn't have been a better choice for reasons that will be made clear as the post goes on. So cute!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The Monster High stickers are awesome and a set I didn't have yet. I've had the Lisa Frank set in my possession before, but they were bought as a gift for someone else. Nice to add this set to my collection. And the Charlie Brown / Peanuts coloring kit is awesome. Not sure if I'll save it for next Halloween or color it now since I associate Peanuts more with Christmas. :D

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Two awesome new washi tapes. I already have two projects in mind for each of these. I'm addicted to washi, so you can bet I was happy to see patterns I've never had before.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

A cute pencil case with an awesome message. :) Between stickers, washi, pens, crayons, pencil crayons and markers I'm always looking for more places to stash my craft supplies and I'm always thrilled to receive pencil cases or cute tins for that. Does anyone know who the ponies on here are?

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I posted asking for opinions about DAVIDsTEA a few weeks ago and Ledbyrd was one of the people who responded to that. I was very excited to see this Pumpkin Chai because I didn't see it when I went in a few days ago. Now Mom, Shawn and I have all had a cup (Dad's not a big tea drinker) and everyone wants more. The added bonus in this is that my mom finally gets why I find David's so exciting as someone whose primary hot drink is tea.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

How have I never had these before? Mmmm! The pink lemonade is my favorite so far, but I haven't tried the watermelon or green apple yet. Definitely not your average suckers.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Lots of Laffy Taffy, which is fabulous since it's one of my favorite candies. And yes, that's another Jolly Rancher that decided it wanted to try and blend in with the crowd.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Look at all these Purdys! Three of their totally awesome peanut butter bars, two milk chocolate bars and a mint melt bar. I'm going through my tea collection debating which teas I'll pair these with.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I love all the treats in the box, but I have a hunch that these are going to be the hands down winner. I had two and gave the third to my brother, Shawn. Now we're thinking of doing an order on the Pundys website to get more. So good!

I sent some goodies for Ledbyrd's daughter and she sent me two adorable drawings:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Aren't they cute? The first is Rarity and the second is Princess Serena. :) The stickers around Rarity are sorta gel-y / sparkly, whereas Serena seems to be in a pretty spring / summer scene. I love the holidays, but to be truthful I wish that was the weather we were about to receive.

Now for the first of my ponies...

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Power Ponies Rarity! Rarity is my favorite g4 and I collect different versions of her. Since these are Target exclusive (far as I know?) I'm really happy to have this version of her in my hands. Her costume is awsome and really suits her. I think she's going to stay MIB for now since I've wanted an MIB Rarity for a while and she can be hung up. (That kept me from leaving Glamour Glow Rarity alone.)

***

Okay, so the overall theme of the boxes was suppose to be Halloween. But it looks like we both had sub-themes in mind when we chose things. The theme for my box was "Princesses" which is awesome because I love Princess ponies and I use to dress up as different Disney princesses when I went to Halloween parties.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I collect keychains to hang off the rings on my purse. I don't drive, but I use them as decoration. This one is awesome because it has all of the original princess ponies, which are the set I'm most actively trying to collect. The bright pink is going to stand out well against my emerald green purse. It'll make finding me really easy for my family when we go Christmas shopping. :D

Look who it is! :lovey:

Princess Serena is my favorite pony (if my avatar and sig didn't give that away already. ) I did not own her yet, though. So I'm sure you can just imagine how thrilled I was to open a pony-shaped package and find her inside.

But wait, it gets better...

I love this so much! Serena looks beautiful here, the background color works perfectly for her, and the glittery stones compliment her symbol and keep the background from overpowering the rest of the painting. I'm debating where I want to put this and whether I'll need to move some of the items on my walls around, because this definitely needs to be somewhere that it will be seen.

And now to wrap everything up we have my lovely card with Sparkler on it--fitting that I got Rarity and Sparkler since there is some relation there. :)

Ledbyrd, thank you so much for the absolutely lovely swap box. It was a joy to open and filled with lovely ponies, delicious treats, fun craft supplies and handmade things that mean a great deal to me.

Off Topic / Anyone Use Disney Movie Club?
« on: November 04, 2015, 01:08:13 AM »
Hi guys!

I bought a copy of Inside Out today and it came with a little voucher telling me about Disney Movie Club. Apparently there is a Canada branch, which actually looks pretty neat. I found a deal online that will let me get 5 free DVD / BluRay + a 6th that counts toward the amount I agree to purchase for $15 and a 7th (that does not count) for $10. So all together, you essentially get 7 DVD / BluRay for $25 and S/H is free.

In exchange you buy 4 more DVD / BluRay at $20 / $30 over a 2 year period. S/H for Canada is $5 for the first film in an order and $3 for each film after. Not flawless, but not bad either. The real "catch" is that it's like an old school Columbia House / BMG CD club where you need to tell them you don't want a feature of the month every few weeks or they'll charge your card and ship it out. Apparently you can say "No thanks" via e-mail, which (again) sounds epic.

What I want to know is: has anyone here tried this? Are you still doing it? Did you love it? Hate it? Any advice for anyone thinking of giving it a go?

I'd also like to know if the $20 / $30 pricetag is what's normal for the DVDs / BluRays or if I'm going to find a shocking increase that they're trying to keep a secret. (That's what separated the good music deals from the bad ones back in the day. )

Anyway, thanks for taking a look. Have a great day!

II: FLAWS INFO:

Acceptable Flaws: Minor hair trims, markings under feet, light playwear, light rubs to symbols, blush loss, head / body mismatch provided it isn't overly noticable.

Unacceptable Flaws: Cancer, extreme haircuts, rattling, prominent pen marks, unpleasant odors.

III. TEA & TREATS INFO:

Allergies: None

Favorite Hot Drinks: I love tea. Some flavors I have tried and loved include Pomegranate White, Blueberry White, Pomegranate Raspberry (black), Peach White, Earl Grey, Pomegranate Blueberry, and Chai. I also love hot chocolate: plain, with marshmallows, with mint, with caramel... I've never come across a hot chocolate I didn't care for (as far as flavors go.)

I enjoy trying new flavors of tea and hot chocolate.

The only real dislike I can give here is that I don't like chamomile tea.

Favorite Chocolate: Milk or white chocolate. Chocolate with Peanut Butter or Hazel nut filling, chocolate with cookie, caramel or wafer. Chocolate with peanuts or almonds. Examples: Reese (peanut butter cups or pieces), Kinder Bueno, Twix, KitKat, Coffee Crisp, Caramilk, Hersheys Cookies 'n Cream, M&Ms, chocolate covered almonds.

Favorite Candy: Laffy Taffy, Airheads, Skittles (Original or Darkside), Starburst, Jelly Beans, Jolly Ranchers.

I also like: cookies (eg. Milanos, chocolate covered shortbread, peanut butter, white chocolate macadamia nut, TimTams), chocolates (Truffles, Turtles, etc.), Pocky and fudge (maple is my favorite). As with chocolate, candy and drinks, I *love* trying new things.)

Candy Dislikes: Anything coconut, black licorice, Nerds, Whoppers, anything really chewy (stuff I've listed above is okay), anything extremely hot, anything extremely sour. (A little is okay, but hot / sour can be a hit or miss thing.)

IV: EXTRA INFO:

In General, I enjoy / collect: Washi Tape, stickers, cute sticky notes, journaling cards, pens, Disney stuff (Belle, Jasmine, Ariel, Elsa, Lady and the Tramp), coloring books, small plush / figures, and mugs.

Favorite Colors: Bright pink, sky blue, bright purple and deep green. I love cheeah and leopard print and I love any and everything sparkly / glittery.

Off Topic / Private Disney Halloween Swap With Mkia9 -- Pic Heavy!
« on: October 28, 2015, 12:53:34 AM »
Last month Mkia9 posted looking for a partner for a Halloween swap. She was open to ideas, but mentioned she'd particularly like to do a Disney themed one. I was intrigued, so I messaged her about that and we decided that we would do a swap for Disney goodies and Halloween treats. Well, the most Spooktacular night of the year is almost here, and my parcel from Mkia has beaten it by several days. Did I wait to open it? Of course not! Keep scrolling to see all the Disney awesomeness and delicious treats!

Here's what I saw when I opened the ginormous box and peeled away the tissue paper keeping everything from trying to bust free. :D Such pretty festive colors. Here's a better look, since I didn't get to take my normal out of box shot. My mom was eager to see everything (you guys think your dogs, cats, etc. are bad? ) and honestly, I'm not sure there would've been room...

I managed to save a lot of the wrapping from this box and have folded it up neatly so I can reuse it in the future. I particularly love the white, orange and black "Boo!" paper and the ribbons are just awesome. I wonder if I'll save 'em for presents or let a few of my MLP wear Halloween ribbons for a while? (Anyone know if that'd be safe?)

A Mickey and Minnie postcard. Does it get any more Disney than this? So cute!

Mkia included some goodies for my mom. Cute Halloween socks, gummies and three Disney pins from her favorite Disney film, The Little Mermaid.

Here's a closer look at the pins:

I remember being nine or ten and going to Florida with my grandparents. My birthday is in February, so when we got back I was surprised with a bedroom that had been completely redone in Little Mermaid stuff--sheets, blanket, curtains, bed mat--which was really cool. I'm pretty sure that was mom's idea.

Look at all the yummies! I loved getting all the little Halloween candy. I found it fascinating because what you guys in the US get in your mini bags appears to be so different than what we get up here. I'm going to guess the fruit things in the clear package are Skittles? (Correct if I'm wrong.) and I'm going to need to open the white package to see what treat it contains, as it's not labelled.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Here's a closeup of some of the really unique / new to me / hard to get treats. I love Laffy Taffy and I was out, so I was thrilled to see two bags of it. I've had Tim Tams once before, but I look forward to trying the Tim Tam Slam this time. The Meiji Hello Panda and the Hershey's Snack Mix are both things I've never heard of, but they sound like my kinda things and I love trying new stuff so I'm looking forward to that.

So much hot chocolate and tea! We have Swiss Miss up here (and it's good) but I don't think I've seen this particular version of it, so I'm looking forward to trying it. I'm looking forward to trying all of the fruit teas since I love fruit tea and there are some really awesome sounding flavors there. The green tea is definitely going to be new to me, and it's been suggested that I try it iced. As for the Vanilla Chai, I've already had one cup and I'm thinking of pausing writing my post to make another. *wanders off to do that...*

Adorable Halloween socks and Inside Out magnets. Pretty sure one of the little ones is meant to have the middle popped out so you can use it to frame how you're feeling. What a neat idea. :) Also love that the socks have haunted houses on them--one of my fondest childhood memories is telling ghost stories with my grandma and little brothers when she would visit.

Stickers! Lots of them! The Star Wars ones will likely be shared with my bf, the little round ones will make great gift toppers someday, and the other two packs are staying put until I come up with an epic enough project to warrant them. The Little Mermaid ones are really cute, and the princess set, "Love to Sparkle", are some of the prettiest stickers I've received. They're glittery, detailed and big so I can really see them well. Awesome!

One of the things we decided we wanted to do fairly early on was include a villain related item. I absolutely love this puzzle. I'm a huge Disney Villains fan and this has the vast majority of my favorites. It's going to stay put until either my bf or one of my brothers can help me put it together. Most likely my bf, since we're thinking of looking up how to turn it into a picture for my wall. (I'm legally blind. If I tried to do this on my own, equal portions of hilarity and lost sanity would ensue. )

That may have been picture overload, but it's the only way I could think of to do this cute little Disney Princess cup justice. I think this is going to wind up holding the Laffy Taffy and sitting on my dresser along with my (upcoming) mini tree. I love all of the various Disney Princess movies, so getting this was pretty neat.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I love this Star Wars tote. It's probably going to end up holding all my various boxes of tea. What makes it really unique, to me, is how it shows Anakin, Padme, Luke and Leia with Vader in the background tying everything together / tearing everything apart. What a great idea for a bag design! The color scheme is very Empire / Sith which really works for me too since that's my faction in SWtoR (Star Wars: The Old Republic).

One of the things Mkia and I ended up talking about a lot was Disney pins. I hadn't heard of them before, but once I started researching them I got very interested in them. I have a very small space to store my collectibles, so pins are something that is very appealing. Plus, they are still big enough that I can see them well and enjoy them. I'm pretty excited about the ones that she sent me.

The Little Mermaid one is very pretty (excuse the glare, I didn't notice that when uploading and it's 2 a.m. now. ) . My favorites are the two shoes, though. What a neat idea! I went and looked the set up and of these I think Rapunzel's is my favorite and I have it. I think I may aim to collect the rest of the shoes, though, since I like their design.

The Minnie Mouse pin is cute and the Cinderella one is nicely detailed. As for the Snow White and Aurora ones, I think they're very clever. To me they look like each princess is looking at her reflection in a rear view mirror, which is very fitting since they are some of the earlier princesses to have a film.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Look at this awesome Star Wars tin (I think it's meant to be a lunch pail?). I have a zillion and one tiny craft items that I'm constantly losing track of and this should help with those a lot. :D The design is really awesome and while I'm not sure the photo captured this well, it's also sort of sculpted into the way the box is made, which is pretty neat.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

This is such an adorable tin! Right now it's holding my new pins and some of the candy. Once I've set the pins up as I plan to, it'll likely hold my Washi tapes. I love the fact that some of my favorite princesses are on here, especially Belle and Rapunzel. I also think it's cool that it says "Dare to dream".

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Adorable Aladdin figures! You guys, these are so cute! I think my favorites are Jasmine sitting on Rajah and the Sultan. One picture isn't gonna do these justice. If you'd like to see them up close, click the spoiler.

Itty Bittys! And these three were way up there on the want list. :D I'm becoming very addicted to these. I'm gonna need to find a larger space for them.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I've seen the Tin Man in person before and knew he looked awesome, but seeing and owning are always two different things. I can't wait to bring him with me the next time I visit my aunt. She and I both like him best among all the Wizard of Oz characters. I really love the fact that his cute little "heart" is there and that the hands on it are pointing to an early hour. From some reason that makes me feel he has a heart that is half full, rather than half empty. I think that suits him.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

And here are Han and Leia. (They're going to look cute when I pick up their Disney Infinity counterparts. :D ) I love the original Star Wars trilogy, and Han and Leia are probably my favorite characters. (What did you expect from a romance writer? ) I grabbed Chewbacca on impulse back in September and now he finally has some company. (Besides Disgust, who is likely "disgusted" by him.)

And finally, last but definitely not least...

I opened this last, so it's only fitting you guys should see it last, too. :) Lady and the Tramp was my childhood Disney film. I figure everyone has one. I had (and still have) plushes from it that my grandma and grandpa bought me at Disney World when I was little. My grandpa would make them talk and used them to teach me stuff. (Whether it was spelling, math, important things he wanted me to understand, etc.). I traveled with my grandparents all over Canada and the US when they bought and sold antiques and my plush Lady and Tramp were with me every step of the way.

With that context in mind, imagine my joy and shock at receiving this mug! The other thing I got from my grandpa? My love of tea, and this mug is absolutely perfect for it. (I should know--I've had two mugs of it while typing all this. ) Looking at what I wrote when I messaged you, Mkia, I don't think I necessarily got across quite how much I love this. (But then, I had a lot to say so it's not surprising it got muddled. ) What I can tell you is that mom and I were both very surprised when I removed this from the box and unwrapped it. :)

Cute little note card that had stuff for me to read once everything was open. :) I love how it fit into the box's theme thanks to its colors. :)

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Whew! That took a while. *glances at clock. quickly looks away*

Mkia, thanks so much for sending me this absolutely wonderful box. I love all of the amazing things that you sent me. :)

And thanks to anyone who's actually made it to the end of this post. It turned out really, really long.

Anyway, I think I'm going to stop typing now and enjoy my goodies. *points at the last picture* Thanks for having a look at this thread. :)
