Hello!
This year, my whole family is having a ugly sweater contest (held at my house every year, but the start of a new (i hope) Tradition!)
So, I decided to make my own sweater, but my problem is, I am crafty. My mom and sister have said my sweater isn't ugly. (kinda weird to take that in a "sad" way :P )
Anyway, help me decide what to put on it to make it ugly!
I am making a trip to the craft store next weekend and trying to stay under $50.
Off with the ugly ideas!
Photos of what is on it now:
The
snowman's nose is 3D lol and the eyes, mouth, etc. are bells.

The ornaments move with me (still adding more ornaments)

ooh, easy!! It's too plain >:---) Fill them up with sooo much junk that it hurts your eyes to look at!! attach everything vaguely christmas related until looking at it makes you just go.. what is even going ON?? tiny stuffed animals and ornaments work well >:--)
-
and a battery operated attached light pack with a strobe lol! That Always works!
-
You need to add more stuff - everything is too "placed" - if that makes sense. Ugly sweaters are ugly because there is just too much going on with them. (Maybe add some knit patches - most of the ugly holiday sweaters I see are knit).
-
Hot glue McD ponies onto them! XD
-
I agree with adding more stuff. Ugly Christmas sweaters should look like Christmas threw up on them...and throw up isn't pretty xD.
So just find anything Christmassy and smack it on! Don't place it so strategically, just throw it on! Lol.
-
lol Thanks Everyone! It was the OCD in me to "make it organized!"
Danity: will totaly have to find random stuff!
Bow Tie: LOL
-
glitter. glitter EVERYTHING.
-
Add some real ornaments to the sleeves of the sweater. Just make sure they are plastic so you don't break them. Defiantly think of adding some sort of stuffed creature or lights.
-
Yep, needs more random Christmassy stuff stuck all over it, and yes some lights would be great! ;D
It really is kind of cute as is. But I know that wasn't your intention, so sorry! lol!
-
Yeah. I agree. It needs more.
-
I agree it needs to look like Christmas threw up on it, you know what I think is ugly and will really help? Tinsel garland! Stitching the tinsel garland up and down the sleeves, gaudy and ugly lol :P Add some mini battery operated lights of some sort, clashing colours, glitter glue to write greetings all over the shirt etc...
You know why you're having a hard time making it look ugly? Because you're crafty, you're an artist so to speak. It's really difficult to go against everything that you are and purposely make something tacky and ugly.
I had to make one for a friend last year as a gag gift, OMG I don't think I ever spent so much time working on one thing, I struggled so much to not make things look perfect, colour coordinated, evenly spaced etc. Making ugly sweaters are not for the faint of heart lol.
-
I think you have some great ideas xD Hopefully they help :)
-
Lace! Put it around the neckline and at the wrists and at every seam. That's pretty horrendous. If you can manage a few coffee stains in the process that would be great. How about some holes? Yes, random holes so it looks like moths attacked it. Oh and speaking of throw up if you can manage to squeeze on some of that plastic puke stuff on there you'll be sure to win. ...and if you want even more ugly/gross something that looks like baby spit on a shoulder will seal the deal. If you can manage something that looks like a kitchen sink... I could go on and on...
-
I agree with mlp4me. Get some doilies at Joanns (near the magnets for unknown reasons). Glue them on and then glue crap all over.
Someone should start a thread for ugly sweaters. I did mine with creepy angels, the center applique has tiny red LED lights for eyes and it's puffy. I try to add a tacky angel pin every year.
Yes, it does need tons of glitter and cheap rhinestones.

your hemline could use more fringe
-
Instead of lace you could trim it in shiny garland!
-
Fold and cut out snowflakes. Then grip them hard so they crumple and tear them roughly in half and hot glue the crumpled halves anywhere on the sweater.

Especially tassel fringe.
-
Oh! I have a better idea than the other one I had. Print out a few of the stories about worst Christmas gift from the Something Awful site and hot glue those anywhere on the sweater.
One of the stories:
AtomiK
During a 5th grade gift exchange dealy, we had to pick a name out of a hat. The kid who picked my name gave me a box with neon blue tigerprint thong underwear. All the other kids had a cool toy or something, and there I was with my box of neon blue tigerprint thong underwear.
Poor person!
-
Two words: elbow patches!
-
Sew tinsel to it!!
-
If you need some inspiration, check out the "Pony sweater anyone?" thread going on in the Pony Corral right now! So wrong in SO many ways, heh.
-
ahh, great sweater! don´t add to much, it wouldn´t be ugly but annoying. XD
hurr, i would put GLITTER ALL OVER IT!!
i mean, all over the red places. XD now i want an ugly sweater contest too, awesome idea!
-
I agree with the tassel fringe. It needs some sort of fringe going down the arms.
-
Quick, grab an entire carton of orange juice and pour it on.

Hey, you can never have too much lace!
-
SHOULDER PADS. And puff balls.
-
Two words: elbow patches!
At first glance I thought that said 'elbow pasta' lol
-
I agree with adding lace. A lace collar will class that thing right up, lol. Also you definitely need some glitter and/or metallic puffy paint.
-
Try adding lime green instead of the traditional forest green used for Christmas, just for some added eye vomit! :D

Or when in doubt, use flesh colour.

SHOULDER PADS. And puff balls.
Yes and Yes!
-
I think it's pretty ugly already, but since it's a red sweater, try adding some hot pink.
-
I LOVE all the suggestions :lmao: I can't wait to see the end result!
-
Pom-poms? Those tinselly ones should do nicely. And randomly splashed all over the place. Don't be afraid to cluster them together... think Jackson Pollock, if he'd used sparkly holiday pom-poms instead of paint splatters. ;)
I can't wait to see the end results either!
