Are you categorizing "to your shoulders" as long?  I think of shoulder length to your mid back as being average and long as being anything past mid back.

You might get a lot of people with short to average hair lengths picking that category and mixing with people who have very long hair. :)

My hair varies. On one side its a little bit past my shoulder, at the back its about as long as my neck (which needs to be chopped off ASAP) and gets longer as it goes to the sides, and on the other side it reaches down mid-boob.

It could really use some trimming and cutting, so hopefully we go back down to California soon.

Mine is elbow length. I want to grow it longer!! I had long hair as a child and my mom used to spend hours brushing and combing it. When she passed away when I was 11, I couldn't look after it properly and it became a tangled mess, so I had to have it chopped from waist length to jaw length  :cry:  I want to get it waist length again!

I have really, really curly and really long hair!  When I get it straightened, it reaches the top of my tushie.  Normally, I keep it curly and it is mid-way down my back right now.  It can be a pain because it get stuck in pretty much everything!  The worst include getting stuck in the car door, getting sucked into the vacuum and getting caught on some lady's purse.  D'oh!!

I've got hair (naturally curly but always straightened) past my shoulderblades, but my goal is bottom-length.  I want to have a long braid slung over one shoulder, long enough to tug at when I'm bored!

(Incidentally, though I love having long hair, I usually always keep it pinned back/tied up/braided/whatever.  Which has led many a person to suggest I just keep it short... but I prefer having the multitude of options! :P)

I have hair just past my shoulders. I used to have hair so long I could sit on it but sadly I had to cut it after an accident with a hair dryer. I'm a bit clumsy sometimes. Lol! :)

Keep at it! My mom used to have butt-length hair but cut it short when she was 20. She regretted it since and when she decided to grow it out again, it took her 6 years, that's how slow it grew. Her perseverance paid off, she has beautiful long hair now. :)

I also have thin hair, so I rock the short-pixie layered look. I lucked out to have a hubby who adores short hair.

mine is not quite butt length, but getting there quickly. it is soooo annoying, but even more annoying is having to pay for a haircut!! i normally get it cut once a year around this time, to just at shoulder level - still long enough to tie up. atm, it's ponytailed and then bunned. but i can't lean on my head cause the bun is too big >_< if my 5yo looks right up and tips her head back, her hair almost touches the back of her knees!!! my biggest dilemma is finding a good cutter - i go to a good salon, but the past two times have ended up with apprentices and dodgy doo's. the second time just before i had to get my new licence photo...which expires in 10 years...  :cry:

I get mine cut right at the shoulders in the summer.  In the winter, I let it grow to the middle of my back.  But... I like the way it looks cut and styled better.

I grow my hair as long as I can! It's about down to the small of my back but I wish it were longer... when I was around 12 I had it cut super short, and I despised it. Now I have sort of an aversion to getting my hair cut.

I've got curly hair, sooooo when it's braided it goes a little bit below my shoulder, but when it's down and dry goes more than half way down my back. So if it was straight (gee, wonder what that'd be like) I'd be pretty close to sitting on it. I won't be cutting it for awhile again...

I used to have long hair, past the shoulders at least, for most of my life. Very recently my sister and I cut it all off. I absolutely love it! So much easier to deal with since our hair is so thick. Wish we did it sooner, then swim class wouldn't have been so annoying... >_<

My hair is super long and curly. I can almost sit on it. I really need a trim but I've always hated getting hair cuts. I can never find a place that doesn't want to cater to my curls. I don't want to straighten my hair and most salons only seem to cater to people who straighten their hair. It's frustrating so I just let my hair grow.

I can sit on mine. It's really thick too.

When I had my brain surgery, they shaved my head completely (well, they left the very back, which was a mess when I got out of the hospital so my mom shaved the rest off) and I was so upset about it. I missed my hair so much, but when it started to grow back in, I spiked it \m/ and it was awesome. So I kept it that way, shaved on the back and the sides and spiked on top for a decade!

On my tenth "brainiversary" I decided to grow it out, and have been doing that for nearly six years :) I trim the ends every couple of months. Now sometimes I miss my spikes :lol:

mine is finally almost wholly covering my boobs now :D (helped by them getting smaller but that's another positive hehe). I used to have it down to the small of my back but then I kept it bob-shoulder length for years with braided in dreads most of the time.
a little less than 2 years ago I decided to let it grow out finally, and I've gone from a short bob to rather long (layered) hair. I love it but can't wait for it to be butt-length again!

I've always had long hair.  When I was little, I thought it made me look like a princess, but I still get upset if I have to have more than an inch or two cut, and I'm 27, ha.

I have long, a few inches past my shoulders, curly hair.  I wear it in spiral curls, my complexion is very pale (I never see sun), and my hair is very dark brown. When I wear it down at work (@ the hospital) pretty much not a day goes by that I don't get a comment or compliment on it.  Most common "Is that natural?"  The short answer is YES.  All I do is twirl it around my finger out of the shower and then let it go.  I  never brush or comb it and I always use hair lotion for curly hair. Sometimes it's hard to tell if they like it or not. lol  :shocked:  Although, women with natural curl themselves have given me complements.  That is always the best because they understand the awful trouble involved with the texture.  >_<  Anyway, I digress.   

I think my hair is most like Pinky Pies.  BOING!

My hair is pretty short but no-where near a buzz or crew cut!!
It's not as long as a bob either though so I wasn't sure which option to choose.
Went for Average Length as there was nothing in between.

I used to have middle of my back long hair but two weeks after we got back from our honeymoon I had it cut off up to chin length with layers and I've never looked back!

I have been growing mine for ten years, ever since I went a bit nuts and cut it short.  My hair stylist recommended some good products so I didn't have to cut my hair as much.

In the last couple years it has finally grown long, a little over 3/4 of the way down my back.

Mine is long long long!!  :-)  I haven't had it cut in over two years.  My horse gets more haircuts than I do...  Speaking of that, I should prolly go trim her tail...  :-)

I think I'm probably the laziest person ever with their hair.  I last had it cut about a year ago.  And when I did I had streaks put in.  So they are still there, but like they start halfway down my head.  I pretty much just wear my hair tied back.

So anyway, my hair is long.  Right now about midway down my back.  The shortest I get it cut is just below my shoulders.  If I go shorter my hair puffs up like a poodle.

My hair is extremely long. I have to put it into braids a lot, so when I take it down its really wavy. People tell me I have mermaid hair.

Growing out that horribly short "bleaching is bad - and no, those frizzy ends can not be fixed any more" bob. Currently reached a length of a few inches below the shoulders again. Feels so much better, but still needs to get a bit longer.

My hair is naturally a very dark shade of brown, practically black, and curly. The left side of my hair is kept at a length slightly past my shoulder, but since it curls, it looks as though it is shoulder length. However, at this length, it's not so curly that it looks crazy! More like a step above wavy, which suits me fine. Any shorter and I'd have a mini 'fro! The right side is shaved down to a nice, fine fuzz. :D I love petting it, haha. It looks better than it sounds, in my opinion.

I have curly hair that's cut into a mohawk (with the sides buzzed short but not shaved), but I don't style it up because it's really long (the longest part reaches my bra); I usually wear it down and all to one side so it looks like a sidecut, or when I am really lazy I put it up in a weird little samurai bun kinda thing, or rock a side ponytail (which looks surprisingly good).  The long hawk section is currently dyed bright turquoise blue but desperately needs to be redyed becuase it's grown out and faded to sea-foam green.

For my entire life I had long hair that, at it's longest, reached to my waist; it only got trimmed twice a year, just to get rid of split ends.  When I was 23, I let my girlfriend and mom talk me into getting it cut, and went to a salon and had the entire 16-inch ponytail cut off.  After that I went all over the place with different short haircuts and crazy colors, even buzzing my whole head once, which made my mother cry.

I always missed my long hair though, and had dreams (literally) about having long hair again, so started growing it out about three years ago.  Last year though I graduated from school and took a road trip up to Canada to live with my husband, and so I felt like it was a good time to take the plunge and do something "crazy" with my haircut again to celebrate the new beginning.

I've kept the mohawk ever since, and I have to say it's my favorite hairstyle I've ever had.  It's easy to take care of but still really versatile and I don't have to pay for haircuts since my husband does it for me at home.  The mowhawk is the best of both worlds, to me - and I get to be butch and femme at the same time.  :D

Mine was to the backs of my knees, but now its just a bit below my but.
Ive alwase has super long hair, I keep it up in a bun. I am trying to grow  it back out. I just keep getting split ends really bad. I have a repair shampoo for that...but only shampoo goes so far.

My bangs are dyed purple and my natural color is dark brown.

I have a classic bob.  It's nice and short and easy to take care of, which is great because where I work having long hair would be a pain.  Updos don't work for me because my hair is heavy and curly.

I currently have my hair a bit above middle of my back, but I'm trying to grow it really long so I could fit with those who can sit on it XD My biggest enemies are split ends and hair dressers who always cut off way too much hair  >_< And that's why I decided to cut my hair myself (well, I just trim my fringe and get rid of individual split ends). It's been about a year now, and I'm pretty satisfied  :)

My hair yesterday was just above my shoulders and quite wavy, but now it's been cut and it's pretty short, has a lot of layers cut into it so after a while it will start being wavy again.

Mine is just longer than shoulder length - frankly it needs cutting.  I generally prefer to keep it just long enough to tie back.

Mine sits on my shoulders, but I'm probably going to cut it again and get a bob. I don't like long hair. I couldn't even imagine having hair long enough to sit on! Sounds like a pain, but I'm glad there are people who enjoy having their hair that long. :)

Mine is almost to my waist, so I chose "so long that I can sit on it (or almost)" since I'm at the almost part. It's almost annoying. It wraps around my neck when I roll over in bed, it gets caught under my arms and it gets pinned behind my back in the car. I've thought about cutting it..... :lookround:

I've just cut mine again and redyed it, so it's nice and short. Don't know how you folks with long hair cope! I can't stand having long hair, too much maintenance. It's also bright red/pink at the moment :)

This is funny - but I think, this depends a lot on your personal hair structure and volume.
Personally, I feel better with longer hair and need to do less to keep them in a bearable state. My hair is very fine and nearly bone straight. So, whenever I wore it short, I had to spend much longer in the bathroom because I had pull it through the flat iron, try to prevent it from heat damage and concrete it with all kinds of styling products, so it wouldn't be flat again within a few minutes. Every single day. Otherwise I looked awful.
Now, after it's finally grown long enough again to make a ponytail, my hair and me get along better again, and the need for maintenance went down to washing, conditioning and drying, except for formal occasions where I wear it in an updo or make curls, and on bad hair days I make a ponytail and am done.
However, I can imagine that people with very thick and curly hair might get along better with not too much length?

Oh yeah, my hair is very thick and it goes all wavy and horrible when its long and it takes forever to straighten. Also when I have it short I take a LOT of the volume out so that it's easier to manage. When it gets long I have to brush it and it takes ages to wash and dry particularly. And just argh! Haha. I wish I could make it stop growing really.

I figure people who play with ponies either learn to manage hair, or are used to having manageable hair so ponies naturally appeal to them :biggrin: My hair weighs itself down by the end of the day (or more likely sooner), tangles in a slight breeze, turns into flyaway city if I have to wash it two days in a row... Basically I have to keep it short, just to keep the darn follicles from staging an uprising!

Mine is down to my chest / mid-back, naturally wavy and I get lots of layers and highlights put in every so often. I also have to have it thinned out because my hair is incredibly thick and starts to resemble a lion's mane after a while. -.-

I don't consider shoulder length to be long. Mine is about a third to a half of the way down my back, and I'd consider that midlength. Long, in my mind, is hair that's right down to your waist. I've always had hair this length or longer. And it's dyed red-brown.

My hair has thinned because my thyroid isn't working. Perhaps have yours checked? (And pray that the doctors actually care.)

Agreed to Sourdough Stomper. Have your hormones checked, please. This could be something with your thyroid, something with your ovaries... both... something entirely different?
Personally, even though my hair is not thick at all, either (the circumference of my ponytail is a pathetic 2"), I find it easier to work with it being a bit longer.
Regular trimming of the tips help to let it look a bit thicker, because those scraggly ends are removed. Micro trims are a good thing to do (once a month get rid of 0.25"). However, layers are strictly forbidden. They look good only with thicker hair, because the longest layer still needs to have some substance. Thin hair, however, will look like a bad case of grown out mullet with scabies. Or a failed attempt to eat with fork and knife... ;)
And stay away from semi-permanent and permanent dye, as it turns thin hair into a frizzy and brittle mess very, very fast. (That's why I had to chop mine off one and a half years ago.)

I agree with the ladies above.  Go get a check up!  But in the mean time, you can take vitamins that are supposed to be helpful.  I hear that pre-natal vitamins are really good for hair health and growth.  It is worth a try at least.

yep my hair is currently below the shoulders, I like to keep it longer, I don't think I would look good with shorter hair, but its starting to get a little TOO long, I need an inch or two cut lol :3
