Title: Doll Furniture Self Challenge- (Ch.7- page 17)
Post by: Salli on June 28, 2012, 10:46:47 AM
I am entering the Arena's Next Top Doll and I don't know about you, but I have like NO furniture. I can't afford the furniture for Tonner-sized dolls (1:4 scale) and Barbie (1:6 scale) ones look too small. I need furniture for my MH dolls too. And I HATE paying for stuff I can make anyway XD.

Anywho... I was thinking of challenging myself to make/acquire one thing a week (backdrop, chair, lounge, table, rug, bed...). Does anyone else want to do this? We could help each other research online tutorials and stuff. We could share our creations/aquisitions.

It would be really low-key, no sign-ups or anything. And you could skip any weeks you are not interested in. I would just start a thread titled "Week 1: The Backdrop" and we could post finidings/etc...

What do you think?

Challenge Index:
CHALLENGE 1: Seating- Make/buy/acquire a chair/sofa. (page 2)
CHALLENGE 2: Lighting- Acquire/make a table lamp/candleabra/candlestick/chandelier. They don't have to work or anything  just for prettiness (page 6)
CHALLENGE 3- Walls & floor (page 10)
CHALLENGE 4: Staging your sitting/living room (page 12)
CHALLENGE 5: Food & Drink (page 14)
CHALLENGE 6: Table/Bar (page 16)
CHALLENGE 7: Chairs/Barstools (page 17)
CHALLENGE 8: Bed (page 19)
CHALLENGE 9: Bathtub
CHALLENGE 10: Vehicle (motorcycle/car/horse/etc...)

Sounds fabulous! I may show some things I have made, but currently (what with running 2 different challenges/competitions) I am slightly over-run and cannot take part, I wish you the best of luck and encourage others to take part, what a fabulous idea!

Yes, please share pix of hand-made stuff! :)

I'll confess, I WANT a chaise lounge first, like the ones here (I think these are a bit big for MH dolls, though) I think I will make one this coming week. Aren't they cute??

That's one of the things I really want to make as well! I really want furniture.

I did make a backdrop this week ^_^

Yes yesyesyes and yes! I have discovered I love making and customising things for my MH.

I thought that the Sindy and Barbie retro stuff should fit them quite well as MH are 1:6 scale, they just have longer legs. I have a couple of newer barbie bits and they are a tad on the small side though.

I want more props for my doll photography too!

Unfortunately, I agreed to take part in Icecrystalline's purchasing ban for the next month, and I'm no good at making things myself.

I did recently buy two packs of retro designer scrapbook paper that were on sale at the local stationery shop two weeks ago.

Love this idea!  I'll have to check out the video tutorials too.  Here's some doll furniture links I've come across:

This one is a tutorial for making a dollhouse out of 3-ring binders but towards the bottom of the page are links to tutorials for a kitchen table and chairs, bathtub, sink, sofa, chair, coffee table, and bed.  http://southerndisposition.blogspot.com/2011/12/diy-three-ring-binder-barbie-dollhouse.html (http://southerndisposition.blogspot.com/2011/12/diy-three-ring-binder-barbie-dollhouse.html)

Here's a site with some step-by-step instructions for very realistic doll furniture (very very picture heavy):

These are for Pullips, but the furniture works for any doll in that size range. Turn on Captions (CC button) when watching these:

I have some doll furniture that I bought at an antique store, I'll post them later.

I am so glad I posted here, you guys are great! I am lovin all these. I got the stuff for a backdrop/fold-out room thing and my chaise lounge which will hopefully be tufted ivory velvet. I also just bought a Barbie Corvette convertible to modify for my MH custom doll (if I am ever happy with her eye painting). Trying to figure out how to make it her style. I wish I had a 30's roadster for her... of well. Anyone else modified cars before?

This person made the cutest Bel 'Scare' convertible. And the funniest MH Elvis doll

I've found a lot of dolly furniture at my thrift store (which is now shut down) and here are some pictures of them.. and no picture of mine is complete without my lovely Ghoulia!

I found this for $6 or so. It's a jewerly box, but is the perfect size for a dolly dresser. It has a mirror and everything!

A miniature vending machine that actually works - if you press the little yellow buttons, any candy that is in there (you put the candy in through the back) will go to the bottom, just like the real ones. I might make some itty bitty candies and put them in there :3

I really love this! I got it for $15, and I saw it on eBay for $70, and some were even listed for $100+. The great thing about it is that it's the perfect for MH dolls, and it has lots of pots and pans (some aren't pictured).

I have some more stuff, but I don't want to post a wall of pictures. Anyway... Long story short - go to your local thrift/antique store! You'll find some great stuff, for a great price.

EDIT: Oh, and I want to do all the challenges too! :D

My OH is currently repainting a Barbie townhouse for me. I've made a couple of backdrops too, will grab some pics when I can. I also found a Bratz or Barbie scooter at a bootsale over the weekend for a quid, it's black already so just got to get some decals on it :)

I am just going to keep the challenges here since we already have some fabulous links on here :D

CHALLENGE 1: Make/buy/acquire (legally ;) ) a chair/sofa. Something for your doll to sit on :)

This week I am going to try  to make a chaise lounge.

Jiggles, thanks for the pix! I was looking at some standing jewelry boxes yesterday and your pic really halped me 'visualize' what it would look like and the stove!!! Oh wow. I love Victorian stuff and that is amazing! Is it cast iron?
Title: Re: Doll Furniture Self Challenge- (Week 1- see page 2)
Post by: Psivampyr on July 03, 2012, 10:46:27 AM
I used to have one of those cast iron stoves. The pots were copper (ish) and I loved playing with it, dunno where it went to. :(
As for ideas - a plushy washcloth is ideal for a nice rug, scarves/kerchiefs make great back drops as well as sometimes a nice little throw to put on the back of the couch. You can really do alot with cardboard and some tape with paint or paper to cover the construction. My sister and I used to love tissue boxes and pencil boxes. Pencil boxes are great for "storage" trunks for Barbies and the like.
There is also a nice Barbie car in stores now, I would assume MH would fit in it. I looked on ebay and it seems Barbie has alot of cool cars.

YAY! I don't know what  should make. I think I want to make a bean bag chair, and maybe buy a table with a set of chairs.

No problem! And yeah, it's cast iron :)

It worked!!! I spent almost the entire day making this. Please don't be scared off, you don't have to make something fancy. Bean bag chairs sound so amazing!! And great for lots of different poses. One thing I noticed with my chaise is that it's kind of limited for posing. It's pretty though and I want one for me :D

I didn't take process photos but I used a double layer of foam board for the bottom and back, a single layer for that weird arm thing. Then I used 1" foam chair pads (WalMart craft section) and did the tufting with just a needle and thread. I mostly used glue gun on this one.

The feet are poorly whittled balsa wood. I stuck pins through the bottom and into the legs to really stabilize them before gluing them. I was just going to do straight wood legs, but I love Victoriany-looking stuff.

Ummm, that's Miss No Pants... seriously, my doll has no clothes. The little black dress she is wearing here is a strip of fabric hastily pinned in back. XD

You make awesome stuff, No Division :) I don't care if you make a coffee table, I still want to see it! please? :D

I was really poor growing up and made doll furniture out of welfare food boxes and used computer paper my dad would bring home from work for us to color on the back of. So, I have experience, I just haven't done it in a while.

That reminds me, what challenges would you guys like to do? I am thinking a lighting challenge (lamp, candlestick or chandelier or something), a bedroom challenge, maybe a bathtub? Rug(s)? Table with chairs? I really hadn't gotten much past 'something to sit on' in my thinking about this. I also like knick-knacky things like vases, clocks, plants, books. Ooooh, I need a fireplace, that might be a fun winter project. Tell me what you guys want to do :) I want EVERYTHING so I'm good either way. Does anyone but me want to do backdrop/room walls? I can do it on my own if no one does.

(LOLOL, I do NOT know why but I thought of 'stripper pole' for reasons unknown XD, don't worry, we won't do that.)

Jiggles, thanks for the links, I NEED that barstool now. I think I will try the sofa too. I may tweak it a bit though. Last night I was googling 'room with a chaise' and found some room plans I want to copy. I have a hard time arranging furniture.

Tuney- yep, and it's pretty loose here. This is just about acquiring furniture we need/want for our dolls. You can buy all of it if you so choose :D You should share pix of acquisitions though :D

Wow, everyone's furniture is so gorgeous, especially the handmade stuff ^.^ I recently found some doll things at the flea market, but is it just me, or is it really difficult to find stuff suitable for 1:6 size that isn't in that horrible barbie pink/magenta colour that they invented in the 90s? :-/

Such a bunch of cute stuff Dawn! I am drooling over your candelabra.

You are right about the obnoxious pink furniture. I don't love pink. When I do like pink it's very pale. Not in-your-face. They have some amazing new spray paints available that are designed to adhere to plastic. I plan on using them then I get to a challenge that requires it :D Like dining room stuff. Give it a try, and the tutorials are fantastic!!! I am lovin them.

Pinkamena that is absolutely brilliant!!!!!!!!!!! Great job!! Seriously, I love the black with textured stripes. It makes such a great prop because it doesn't 'steal' the limelight from your dolls. I just love your pix too! Also, the more I look at your sig ad, the more I love it! I think your doll may be my new fave in ATNM since my other fave got voted out.

Can't wait to see your bean bag chair!

I found 2 lids that I think are big enough for Dalice's derriere XD I will have a go at that barstool. I am thinking of using sawed off chopsticks for the legs to give it more visual interest. We'll see how it goes....

Pinkamena, I love the couch!

I've gotten started on my chair but I'm not too happy with it so far.  Hopefully I can get it to work out.  I may have to abandon some of the detail on it.

The couch is now growing on me, because MH lower legs are so long it ended up higher than I thought when I measured it but, it works :)

I will post our next challenge on Tuesday :D

Good job everyone for working on stuff!! Keep working and post pix, these are fabulous!

^ I sewed the pillow in the middle, and the pillows on the side are from something I got at the Dollar Tree a couple years ago. The poster-looking thing on the wall is the plastic part of an old CD case with pictures from magazines taped to it. And as for the side tables, those are drawers from a jewerly box turned around.

Jiggles, that looks awesome! Make-up bag- GENIUS! And I LOVE the cd art as pop art! That's perfect!! You guys are so creative, I am really impressed!

Fabric Tac is great. I also love a glue called 'Jewel It' for gluing beads and metal and stuff. I also use a lot of double-sided 'no sewing' tape, that I can't recall the name of. It's strong and super easy to use. Should be next to the hemtape and fusible packaged stuff at your fabric store.

So I lucked out at goodwill today and found a darling white bench with horrible carrots on the back and a silver color candle holder.

My plans for them: invert the candle holder and upholster a cushion for it. AND, re-paint and make a cushions for the back of the bench. << off to spray paint!!>>

I love looking at all these pics, guys!  I'm not very crafty AT ALL, so I usually end up just buying the things I need, lol.  I've made a few pieces of 1:6 scale stuff, but the thought of making things for my bigger dolls still terrifies me, haha.  Finding furniture for 1:3 scale dolls is entirely too difficult though, so I might give it a whirl.  BUT, since I took a few pics today, check out this chair that I got for a steal on eBay!

You guys did fantastic on challenge 1! If you are still working or looking, don't give up, you can do it!

Barbgirl, great chair and your doll is sooo pretty!

TexasGal, this is a pretty low-key thing. You kinda just do what you want to, if you want to skip one you can. It's just kind of support for making the things you need/want. You are more than welcome to skip challenge 1 and do challenge 2 or do challenge 1 whenever :)

I finished my barstool and got it painted :) It needs touch up paint near the seat but I'm happy with it. I used the tutorial on here and used a lid, a couple of layers of felt padding, some black vinyl, hot glue, chopstick legs (the cheap ones they give you at delis) that were cut with wire cutters at the top to make them the right height, the supports are bamboo skewers, again, cut. I covered the chair with masking tape and spray painted the legs black and ta da!!!

I'm really happy with how the chopsticks give it more of a stylized look rather than just a straight dowel. I did 2 rows of supports because I thought it looked cool and it definitely made it more stable. I dropped it and it just bounced around with no damage.

Ok, on to
Challenge 2!

This week's challenge is a bit easier. Sort of. It's lighting!
Acquire/make a table lamp/candleabra/candlestick/chandelier. They don't have to work or anything XD just for prettiness.

If you want to skip this one, you are more than welcome. Also if you are still working on your chair you can keep doing that if you want. I also want to know what you want to make next week? Or ever? Rugs, accent pieces like pillows or wall art, a bed, dining room stuff, bath tub, bookshelf, poolside furniture, walls of a room, props like a phone, dishes or food, pets, etc....

I am going to make a lamp first, then we'll see. I really want a small chandelier. I'll think about it while I make my lamp. Again, please post pix of what you make and link any tutorials you find :)

I forgot that I need an end table, and I want to make a vanity set and props like little perfume bottles and a vase of flowers. Let me know what you want.

Here is a good tutorial for a lamp.

That barstool is awesome!!!

I've watched that tutorial but I don't like the bottlecap base, but I think I have an idea for another base.

I found a hot glue gun at a second hand shop the other day too, so hopefully sticking stuff will be a gazillion times easier now :D

The one I found was only a couple of quid and came with about 20 glue sticks, that should keep me going for a bit!!!

That bar stool is awesome!

I've got a miniature hot glue gun but no glue sticks--keep forgetting when I'm at the craft store.  I've been using this Alene's (sp?) craft/tacky glue stuff for my chair... which hopefully I'll be done with soon.  The top part is finished and I've got two legs glued on.  Just need to finished the other two legs, glue those on, and then paint it once everything is dry.

Today I went to the thrift store and found this chair:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

It's the perfect size, and if you look closely you can see the faces of a dog and a cat on the arm rest, cats as a pattern, and paws as the chair legs.

I also found this table, which is really just a candle holder.
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The TV on it is a a keychain I found at my antique store the other day. If you put batteries in it light ups and the theme song plays :)

@Salli I love the stool you made! I might have to try it out myself... ^_^ I can't wait to start the new challenge, but I have no clue how to make a lamp! And where in the world would I buy one? :\

Thanks you guys. I can't wait to use it in a shoot. I actually used a trimmed down cap from my Testor's dullcoat. Dalice's behind is pretty big compared to barbie/MH dolls.

I LOVE my glue gun for crafting. Be careful though, I am always burning myself! :)

Jiggles, that chair is so AWESOME! I am so jealous! :D The pillar candle holder is brilliant! I may have to follow your example on that one. The tv with Get Smart is so incredibly awesome! I need to look online to see if I can find something similar XD I wonder if they have Petticoat Junction? lol

I was kind of stumped on the lamp thing too, even after watching the tutorial. I did a search online for images of 'lamp' and 'transitional lamp' and looked at pix of real lamps I like. I have loads of ideas and I actually have plans to make a few, I will try it tomorrow and post pix. I think I will make a couple from stacked beads and I got the cutest little cup thing at Burger King the other day (for holding ketchup) that I think may work as a shade once I glue supports across the top inside. Here, I will post pix of some real lamps that maybe can give you ideas...

Try not to think of a lamp as a lamp, but as 3 sections (like a bug almost), the shade, the body and the base. You also don't need a cup to make a shade from, you can make a hollow cube or a cone or a cylinder from paper or plastic too. Give it a try, stretch yourself creatively :)

Well I finished my doll couch and am working on the bed. I have learned some VERY important things. Even if the youtube video doesn't I must ALWAYS first make a pattern that has very specific labels. I am not 100% happy with the couch - It is slightly lopsided and the seat part is tilted a bit. Poor dollies don't want to stay on it ! LOL. I hope to finish the bed sometime this weekend so here they are!!

Good tips, Tribble. And lovely furniture! I love your fabric choices!!

Okay, I went and picked up a couple of things and went through some of my craft supplies for stuff to make lamps. Here's a diagram showing the stuff, take note of the things you like and the things you don't and see what they look like when they are transformed into lamps :D I may not use all of them, but I will use most. The candlestick and it's twin will be painted and so will the antelope statue. We'll see... oh, dig that wild reflective paper to the left?? I HAD to have it for Dalice's bathroom or something.

Dawn- your sofa is perfect! Gah! I LOVE it!! It looks like you worked hard on it because it is so detailed and well made! Our next challenge will be couches. Just kidding!! I post the week's challenge on Tuesdays but it's low key, if you are late or want to skip a challenge, no worries. I think I want to do every other challenge flip flop between harder/bigger projects and easier projects so people can catch up if they need to. Hence, the lamp challenge.

I'm so glad everyone is feeling inspired! I can't wait to see all our lamps! It's a seashell lamp battle! lol, seriously though, I can't wait to see :)

I'm thinking of making a chandelier, using a similar method as this video:

Also, I found a page for inspiration.  I love the loveseat in the first picture and the bed in the last one.  Can't you just see that bed in Draculaura's room?  http://dein-schattenspiel.blogspot.com/2012/01/gothic-furniture.html (http://dein-schattenspiel.blogspot.com/2012/01/gothic-furniture.html)

Alicat, your girls look so at home on their couch! I want to know what they are discussing :D Cute stool too!

Pink, I can't wait to see! :D

I did some sculpting for lamp bases, and I made some patterns for shades. I wish my scanner was working, I could share them. Once I paint the bases I made, I can start gluing away :)

So I came up with this awesome idea to make a room out of a shopping bag....

Spoiler
This is what the room looks like so far:

As you can see, it's still a work in progress.

If your wondering what the string things are...

They were the handles for the bag that I cut off. I used scotch tape to hang them, and tomorrow I'll hang tiny paper lanterns on them. Since I only had two handles, I added an old bracelet chain too.

And the monkey thing is actually a playing card from a set I found in the dollar section of Target a couple years ago. I need to attach it better though.

I also found this the other day for $0.99:

I don't know what I'll do with it. I'm going to spray paint it black and use it as a bench. I don't know where I'll put it, but it's always nice to have extra furniture just in case.

Oh, and to make the room in the bag, just cut strait down the corners of the long side of a big shopping bag and take the handles out. (My bag is from Vera Bradley, btw.)

I love that bag idea! And that wooden shelf thing, I would bake that into a headboard for a bed :D can't wait to see it as a bench!

Here's the stuff I made yesterday - bench, table and lamps. I'm in two minds as to paint the bench struts black or not, it looks much better than that IRL. table is crappy but it does the job. Lamps took me ages cos I couldn't get them straight!!!

Pinkamena, those look great!  I love that table, I want to make one similar if you don't mind.  The lamps are too cute and the bench looks great.

Pink, I am so impressed with your stuff! What a great idea for lamp shades!!

Aellos, I just love it! Good job!

I have been madly sewing but my niece's dress in FINALLY done! Thank goodness. Now, back to the fun! I have a spoiler and a question. I was going to make the next challenge be an end table or something to put your lamp on, but some of you already have them. Do you still want that to be next week's challenge or should I pick something else from my list?

Aellos, I just noticed your pullstring on your lamp- so cute! I love details like that :)

You can do either for the next challenge if you want! I could just make another table. P:

Eee! I went into Easons to return some tags I didn't need, and was able to use the store credit I got to buy this adorable wooden beach chair! It's supposed to be a tealight holder, but take out the glass holder (which made it look like a comode ) and it's a pretty funky seat! It's oversized for MH, but fits my Pullip fabulously :) Will try and get some photos later!

fiwen, I am dying to see pix of your beach chair!  I want one sooo bad. I just finished my doll's swimsuit and am probably going to have to make one for my shoot :P bleck. Sounds not fun.

I want to do a table/bar thing in a bit, but I kind of wanted to finish up the 'sitting room' first. I just had a great idea for the next challenge. Y'all will have to wait til Tuesday to see what it is though... anyway, my lamps still aren't done yet :)

That beach chair is so cute!  One thing you might could do to cover the hole is check at craft stores (or Walmart might have them) for precut small wooden circles/ovals, and glue one on the bottom.

One thing I've been wanting for my dolls recently is a globe, to go with my steampunk chair.  I was at Fred's yesterday and noticed in the household decor aisle some paper mache globes that were almost perfect (they were a bit oversized), the colors on them were sort of vintagey-looking.   I'm thinking of buying one, and tracing some of the outlines with metallic paint and figure out a way to make a stand (maybe from a wooden candleholder if I can find one).

bewilderness- fantastic chair!! You are right, it is perfect! You could even cover the hole with a layer of thin cardboard and a piece of decorative paper.

They have what might be the same kind of globe at Michael's in the value section (got one weeks ago). I glued a bunch of lamps together yesterday and I am so excited about the steampunk one :) Can we see your chair? I'll try to get a pic of my globe when I take lamp pix :)

TexasGal, sounds like fun! I thought my dollar store had little furniture but they did not. I went to Goodwill and snagged some coasters and a short candlestick for when it's time to make an end table... :shifty:

I only made one lamp and it doesn't light up, but it turned out okay. I  might end up adding some decorations to the base of the lamp. My lamp is slightly lopsided also. I think it's pretty cool though. If I had had red beads n such, It woulda been in red to match my furniture.

My goal tomorrow is to finish up some lamps so I can be all ready for challenge 3 :D

Well, I finished a lamp. woo.hoo.  :lookround: It actually looks nice in it's setting (which you won't get to see for a couple of weeks). But it's not going to win America's Next Top Lamp.

I did put a bunch of lamp bases together and I realized that I could use sculpey on a wooden dollhouse balusters to achieve the kind of look I wanted. I used a wire wrapped around the core and sticking out like arms and taped to the sides of the inside of the lamp shade. I am making a twin for possible use in the main room and I still want to make that chandelier but didn't have the time (and it's still kind of coming together in my head) this week, it also may be a multiple week project for me. But anyway, I made a lamp- yay!

Here's the other bases I made

I am SOOOOO impressed with everyone's crafting. You guys are awesome!

I'll give you the new challenge early because I will be gone a bunch tomorrow.

Challenge 3- Walls & floor

Make at least 2 walls (like those 3-ring binder walls or whatever you want) to serve as a backdrop for a room. It can be the interior of a bag (like was shown) or box or 2 separate sheets of cardboard that you stand up together or fold up. They can be plain or decorated with paper/paint etc.. You may also put in a window by cutting out a chunk or gluing on a scene. Whatever it is, make sure your chair and lamp look at home there and the styles harmonize. You may also add art to your walls if you wish, but next week's challenge may give you that opportunity if you don't get to it.

Flooring can be the top of your desk or table, a towel or piece of fabric. You may also make a floor and/or a rug to put on your floor (I am a huge rug fan). The goal is to make 2 walls and a floor that harmonize with the pieces you just made. They could even be plain white. Doesn't have to be fancy and shouldn't detract from your doll if you chose to do a photoshoot there :) Good luck! And please post inspiration and progress :D

I have an idea for a room already, I'll post pictures soon!

EDIT: Totally forgot to comment on everyone's great creations!

I really like the couch, swordpony! I want to make one like that, but I don't have the time, or anything to make it stand. :\ And Salli, those lamps are AMAZING - breathtaking, stunning, jawdropping... I seriously thought it was a real lamp at first!  Tribble79, your lamp is so creative! I would've never thought to use a skull bead :)

Swordpony, that is such a great, elegant couch! I love couches with tall legs because they help a space feel so open, so I am biased ;) Great job! Did you use dowels for the feet? No worries, just post stuff as you get it done. Even if it's months later :D

Thanks Jiggles. It's not my favorite thing I've made but it really blends with the look I am going for. I REALLY want that chandelier now... The rest of my lamp bases will probably get turned into lamps for different rooms I want to put together.

Try pintrest or just googling images of rooms with colors or styles you like to get ideas. Like 'Pink gothic bedroom' or 'bohemian white room'. Then I just surf the images and click on links and blogs I like. Good luck!

I decided to go ahead and post a picture of my chair, even though I'm not finished yet.  I still need to finish painting it-- I want it to be gold, silver and copper and make the paint kind of distressed so that the black shows through in places.  I wanted something that looked kind of steampunk and went with a lock and keys theme.

I did decide what I want after watching a great episode of something on HGTV.

Okay, so what if we just get walls, no decorations etc. Just have 2-3 walls and a floor and snap a pic. Even if it's an empty, blank cardboard box or bag. That's our challenge before Tuesday. Apartment hunting time! Also, I think we need more inspiration. Here is a super cute room on Etsy

http://www.etsy.com/listing/97862020/monster-high-display-rooms-and-furniture?ref=sr_gallery_3&ga_search_query=monster+high+furniture&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=ZZ&ga_min=0&ga_max=0&ga_search_type=all

the seller says that her walls and floor are 15" square. Maybe that will help? Find 3 15" square pieces of cardboard.

Here's a cute idea for a room box/shadow box. It's in nursery style, but I like the edges on this, it would display beautifully.
http://www.etsy.com/listing/101991289/miniature-room-box-nursery-theme-doll?ref=sr_gallery_39&ga_search_query=doll+room&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=ZZ&ga_min=0&ga_max=0&ga_page=2&ga_search_type=all
You could also use a shelf on a bookshelf as a 'room' that totally counts. But when you photograph it it should look like they are in a room, not on a shelf.

Think about your doll's personality. What colors do they like? Also consider the color(s) of the biggest pieces of furniture in the room and work around that. Okay, now I think I am ready to work...

This rose room is fabulous and reminds me of what I am looking for kind of. Not pink though.

That's so funny! I was thinking about getting a big "D" for Dalice's apartment.

Holy giraffes! I love this, it's kind of too brown though, I wish the walls were lighter.

Wow, that is so cool and creative. I may have to do a faux brick wall.

Okay, I did not believe this was a miniature room at first. WOW. This person should come decorate my house. Great example of a faux window.

More Monster High. Eek BooTeek has some cute rooms. Her bedrooms for Abbey and Cleo were so cool. I think the Cleo one was on EBay. Here's Abbey's vanity

I have a little bit of a problem - the box I was going to use was put outside and got wet so I am having a rethink at the moment.

Oh no, Pink!! That's so sad. I got my foamboard walls and I bought some 99 cent adhesive floor tiles from Home Depot for Dalice's apartment. I will get a pic of her in her blank apartment today :) Maybe I will have time to cut out a window. I also found a chandelier I want to copy :D

Get those walls up and floor everyone, don't worry too much about decorating, this next weeks challenge will give you plenty of time to catch up on it and old projects.

I found some awesome stuff at Target's Dollar Section today! :D

You can barely see it, but I got a divided container, which is a great shelf. The chair is a cell phone holder, and it is PERFECT. The laptop is an eraser. You probably noticed that the "screen" is printed on lopsided :\ But I'll figure out how to fix it.

This is her bulliten board with a really random TOMS shoe on it. (I'm covering the "Room" in white paper, and I just have to do this side.)

Just peeking in to say everyone's projects are very awesome and inspiring! I'm going to look around my house for bits and bobs for making furniture!
The room idea is awesome. I currently have some foam board lying around that I was going to use for something else but now I'm eyeing it up for room making! :D
Also don't forget to look in the scrap booking isle of your favorite craft store. Scrap book paper can make awesome wallpaper and there's so much beautifully designed paper! :D

Oh my you guys have some awsome ideas! I was so inspried I spent most of last night making my Midge a proper room. I tried to make it as 1950's as possible, but some of those accessories will be hard to do. Like for example does anyone have any ideas on how to make a doll sized turn table?

That's the wrong scale, but like with the lamps, you just have to think of it in chunks. Get/make a box and cut the lid so only part of it opens. Put legs on it. Make a 'tray' with fake knobs and the pieces of the turntable and glue/set it into the top portion of the box. Cover the box maybe with cheesy woodgrain contac paper. Make a decal or something to use as the front or glue on some hideous tweed fabric to be where the speakers are 'hiding'. I might use a black button with a white piece glued in the middle for the actual part the record sits on. Paint the buttons etc. I think it would be fun to try to make one sometime. I'd love to see what you come up with.

Dragon, I have TONS of scrapbook paper, but none of it is what I 'visualized' but I may use some I have of a brick wall as one wall :) We'll see how it looks...

That looks great!  And I love the stool that Cleo's sitting on.

I've been drawing up some plans for mine.  I want something that looks like Hogwarts (and eventually I want to sew some Hogwarts uniforms for my MH dolls).  I've been debating on whether to use a cardboard box or foam board but think I'm going to go for the foam board so I can give it some texture so that it looks more like stone.  Unfortunately my search for stonewall scrapbook paper hasn't been successful, so I'm going to have to paint it and it'll take longer to get it done.  But I think with the carving, it'll look more authentic.

Thanks ya'll! all the paper is scrapbook stuff. I even have a curtain rod at the top with scrolls!  I realized everything I have for scrap booking is more muted and old-fashioned looking, but oh well!

Oh, and the stool is a candle holder I found at Goodwill. Made a cushion, hot glued the crap out of it, and there it is!

Alicat that is too awesome!! And I am in love with that floor, I want it for myself, forget the dolls! ;)

Pink, no worries, I am behind too. This scout camp stuff is WAY more draining than I had expected. I do have walls and a floor and stuff to decorate but it is just sitting there and I'm just popping in here to check this thread. I will post pix next week after I finish the next challenge:

This week's challenge is: Staging your sitting/living room

You have the walls and floor, something to sit on and a lamp. Now, pull it together with whatever else you need, pillows, end or coffee table, framed art, knick knacks, plants, books or magazines, make the room look like someone lives there :) Good luck! And great work so far everyone!!

I got my backdrop sketched out tonight on the foamboard and I used an embossing tool to trace the lines.  This is going to take forever to paint though.     But I realllllly want a Hogwarts backdrop.  Eventually I plan to add a floor, possibly two side walls, a 3-d spiral staircase, purple curtains on the big archway and two 3-d torches in the small archways in the foreground.  I'd also like to make some sort of chandelier and somehow hang it from the top (may have to do a domed ceiling somehow).  Oh, and possibly a couple of 3-d columns to go on either side of the big arch.  I just wanted something quick and easy.   :drunk:

Update:  Here it is with some color added.  I've started working on the shadows of the foreground and then I'll do the highlights.

Wow, it looks great! :-)
Was it okay to use the paint on the foamboard? I tried to glue paper to mine with a glue/water mix and it warped inwards, now I have to buy a new piece :/

Thanks!  The paint works pretty well on it, although it does seem to suck the paint in really fast and it dries too quickly to get an even coat (though that worked out for the stones).  You might could try a glue stick for glueing paper on, since it wouldn't have as much moisture in it.  You can also buy spray adhesive in a can but it's pretty expensive, like $10 for a can, and I haven't tried it yet, so I don't know how it would work on foamboard.  I use gluesticks for scrapbooking, it doesn't warp the paper as much as regular glue does.

Spray adhesive is eeevillll. It's cool but it gets on EVERYTHING. And it's expensive. Have you tried modge podge?

Bewilderness, your backdrop is lookin so awesome!! I thought mine was ambitious! Tomorrow is the last day of camp (huzzah!) and then I can get back to ponies and dolls :D YAY!!! Keep up the good work everyone!!

Once I get Dalice's room situated, I need to make a place for  my MH dolls to hang out. I tried not to collect them but I just can't help it. Monster High dolls are like Pringles, you can't have just one.

Okay guys... I have a room. The walls and floors are up, the window is in and I even have a curtain rod up. However I was planning on making this one wall bricks and thought I had brick scrapbooking paper: wrong. So, I need to get that and I am still working on the stenciling and molding. Also, my camera is MISSING and I am so scared that I lost it camping. My son just got a camera for his birthday so I can try to use that, but in the meantime, no pix from me :(

So, this week is either a week off or a week to finish/make anything you are already working on. Keep at it everyone! When we finish I want everyone (who hasn't already) to post a pic of their finished room with furniture and at least 1 doll :)

Hopefully I will find my camera...

I messed up on painting my walls and am not sure how to fix the paint.  But...when I was at Dollar General this week I found some patterned contact paper that would be perfect for Hogwarts walls, so I think I'm going to go with that instead.

Who knew some simple walls would be such a pain? I mean, I thought for sure the chair would be harder. Wrong. I found the brick paper today and hopefully I can work on it a bunch tomorrow :) Hang in there everyone, we can do it!

bewilderness, I keep forgetting that you are doing Hogwarts and every time you post something about it I get so excited! I am a Harry Potter junkie. Are you creating a specific Hogwarts room or just a random room? Also, you may not be interested, but better fabric stores (and quilting stores) sell fantastic fabrics that look like stone walls. I used a piece in the background for my Lucius photoshoot.

Omigosh, deatheater pony! XD  <3 it!   And that fabric is perfect!   I was going to make a Hogwarts corridor but now I think I'll work on kind of a generic background that could be turned into any room or corridor with furnishings and accessories.   Also, I found these awesome Harry Potter scrapbooking stickers today at Hobby Lobby that I may be able to use with it.  I'm going to try putting them on cardstock and use yellow wall tacky stuff to stick it to the contact paper on the wall, that way they should be easily removeable.

Thanks! ^^ Glad you like the window, I'm planning on making some curtains as soon as I find some suitably kitschy fabric (I'm thinking red and white dots :3). The floor and the window sash are made of one of those cheap bamboo placemats, they make quite a good source of realistic looking wood if you don't have access to a band-saw.

@Bewilderness: Thanks :-) It's not quite nerea pozo (http://www.flickr.com/photos/nerea_pozo/7455098092/in/photostream/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/nerea_pozo/7455098092/in/photostream/)), but I'm still pretty pleased with it, lol!

Wow, Dawn!! looking good!! I love the floor! I really wish I had made mine where it could collapse as well, but, oh well!

So, I finally got my furniture lot in! I had a whole post over on TS about it taking 8 days for the lady to ship it out! I could have driven over to her and back 16 times by the time she shipped, grrr! I got hte fire under my tail and painted and embellished it all! All I have left is sewing a bedspread. Should I post some piccies yet? I feel I may be bragging, lol!
It all sounds awesome, brag away! :D

Dawn that looks sooooo awesome!! Good job!!! I am so impressed. Can you get a pic with your doll in it :D ? I've been looking at placemats too, that looks so fantastic!

My doll is 16" tall and so I had to make a fold-down house with foamboard walls. They also go together with straight pins inserted through the foam.

I got got my brick wall covered and my curtain rod painted. I will finish on whatever point I get to. I still haven't found my camera but I will try to get a pic with my son's camera.

Tomorrow is a new goal everyone....

Aww, thanks ^^ I'll probably take some more pics when I'm done with some  of the fabric parts which'll probly take like, a month - crafting is such a slow process x/

16"? That must be a bit more of a challenge making a house for one like that than a little Licca chan, what kind of doll is she?

She's a Tonner fashion doll (NuMood Tyler Wentworth). I am almost ready to shoot, and this morning I found my camera!!!! I cannot even tell you how happy that makes me! I can also shoot some MH doll pix :D I'm hoping I can get a good pic today but if not, I can definitely post my room tomorrow.

For anyone who is waiting for challenge 5 (and it's no hurry at all if you are behind- like I am :D ) It's food and drink. Get or make your doll a cup and something to eat. You can do more if you like too, that's just the minimum.

Dawn has some great tumblers on her coffee table, were they the ends of twisty crayons? Buttons make convincing desserts too. You might even have some hanging around from accessories to other playsets. I am going to dig out a tiny tea set I have somewhere and see if the scale works.

Here's some dollhouse food. It took a while to load this one, so I hope it works for everyone

I don't like sushi myself but miniature sushi looks so fun to make! I may try that.
http://dolls.wonderhowto.com/how-to/make-mini-polymer-clay-sushi-for-dollhouse-331669/
how cute is that?

Oooh, this lady looks like she's doing it the hard way, but I was wondering how to 'texture' the inside of cake and bread and if you scroll through the instructions, it tells you how to.

here's one on cups

I bought a Moxie teens pack of stuff recently and it had a great coffee cup. Please feel free to post links to other tutorials for food and drink and dishes :)

Food!! :D  I've got a couple of plastic bottle caps that I want to make a coffee pot and coffee maker with.

Here's some food that I made a couple of years ago.

A chocolate chip cookie, 2 fortune cookies, and three pieces of candy corn.  Also, a pumpkin and a gourd.

Potion bottles and a candle on the far right, made from beads.

And I don't have a picture, but I've found that the clear plastic cap that's on some nasal sprays looks just like a  clear drinking glass.

@tribble: completely off topic, but I always wanted to ask - is that your raccoon in your avatar? I absolutely love them ^^
I've always wondered that myself, about the raccoon:)  S/he is so cute.  Does it have a name?

Yep, that is my raccoon... His name is Zorro!! He is the most sweetest raccoon ever... He doesn't live with me now, he lives on the North Carolina on the Native American indian reservation. I just didn't have the money to build him the room he needed. Little guy destroyed computers, tore down the ceiling, tore wallpaper of the walls, etc... etc... But I miss him terribly.

Awww! Zorro is such a cute name! (Okay, now my fiance is laughing at me for "aww-ing" out loud xD) I knew it was difficult to keep them as pets, but I didn't know they actually tear down walls and stuff - I'm glad he's happy at the reservation though :-)

@Jiggles: Those tutorials are really cool, the bread one just totally blew my mind - it's such a good idea to use foil for the texturing! I've only ever seen decoden sweets tutorials, and they always use toothbrushes, but that only really works for a cake-like texture.

Aghhh! I am soooo close to done. My doll is sitting on her lounge, with her table and lamp set up on her floor and rug while the walls lay flat, waiting for the art I attached to dry. The curtain is even hung up...

I think I may dig up that tea set while I wait...

...or...I could wrangle my cranky, screaming children.

Anyway, here is her room so far. I think the rug is too small a scale for this room, so I may try to find a bigger zebra print rug :)

I almost forgot. That brick wallpaper was from Joanns in the scrapbooking section and I just love how that came out. The smaller frames on the wall were from the Michael's value bins. The bigger one was from a garage sale and I ripped the hideous print out. I spray painted them matte white. The table is most of a candlestick but up-side-down with a marble coaster on top. I didn't show the flowers well in this but they are from Joanns and the vase is a recycled conditioner bottle from a hotel we stayed at. I just cut off the top :) I'll get pix with Dalice tomorrow. I may get one with a MH doll in it too so you can see the scale.
Oh, my walls are foamboard being temporarily held together with pins and duct tape on the outside, the floor is just $1 squares of adhesive-backed linoleum squares from Home Depot. :)

Can we get a listing on the first post maybe of all the challenges, for those of us who are thinking of doing this? My friend and I are coming into it a little late, but we're considering it - we'd just have to catch up. All the challenges are lost in the posts, though!

Pink, what is dado rail and skirting board in American-speak? The board in the middle of the wall (dado rail?) is a balsa wood strip, a narrow dowel and a thin piece of tiny wood molding I found in my old dollhouse supplies. Sorry I didn't get more pix today, it turned into a rough day for me.

Hi Rainsong! I am in Oregon too :D That's a great idea, I will write the challenges and page number on the first post :)

Yep the dado rail/chair rail is the bit that goes round the center of the wall, the skirting board goes around the bottom of the wall :) I need some skirting board for my room as it just looks weird without it but I was stuck as to what to use. Will keep an eye out for some suitable doweling now, thankies :)

Got my wall finished!  It took hours to make.  The stones are cut from contact paper and I painted the part between the stones with a watered down mixture of brown and gray acrylic paint.  Before I painted it, I used the end of the paintbrush to press down between the stones to give them depth.

I got the globe from Fred's.  And the other stuff is thrift store finds.  The table is made from two metal pieces, I have no idea what they were for originally.  The silver piece can be turned either way to make a stand to set the black ruffle piece on.  It also makes an interesting stand for the globe.  I've got an empty thread spool sitting on top of the silver thing to make the table a little higher in this picture.  The purple cloth is temporary-- I want to get some purple velvet to make some sort of curtain/wall hanging.

I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do with the wooden shelf, whether to paint it, put scrapbook paper on it, or just leave it plain.  I thought the little wooden goblet would be perfect for the Goblet of Fire but it also makes a handy stand for the globe.

I also want to make a detachable archway, windows, torches, and door and make them where they can be stuck to the contact paper on the wall with that yellow or blue wall tacky stuff (not sure what it's called).

Thanks you guys :)

Pink, I don't have a skirting board, it's just the light. I want one though, I'll have to order more molding from a dollhouse supply store.

Thanks Dawn :) The window was a Monster High box and this set up is on a table next to the window in my studio. The plants outside are my overgrown garden ;) The light is just the sun light from the window.

Bewilderness ...    I WANT TO COME PLAY DOLLS! That looks so great!! Is Robecca in Divination class? Sooooooooo cool. I love it. You get an "O" for Outstanding! If it were my shelf, I'd paint it dark cherry or mahogany. I think most wood in Hogwarts is stained dark. Buuuut I also love dark-stained things personally, so I might be biased.

Awesome! Thanks for posting them up there. I've been sorta keeping tabs on this thread, but wasn't following along. Now that my roommate is into the dolls more, we've been crafting things together. Makes it loads more fun, and we were thinking of possibly doing the challenges, but at 15 pages it was a scary task to try and look them all up!

thanks!  It does look kind of like Divination class. :D  I hadn't thought of painting the shelf mahogany but that's a good idea.

I ordered some Barbie candelabras, which are on the way.  So I'm almost caught up now. I also picked up some black pipe cleaners and large black seed beads the other day, to try and make a chandelier.

Guess who made a mini cheesecake today??? I also made some sushi rolls, but I'm not super happy with them. I did make some chopsticks to display :) I need to find/acquire serving dishes for them. I dug out my tiny tea seat and it's a great size. I also had some other tiny dishes and they are a great size but they were painted gold (BLECK) so I am spray painting them white. I hope it looks okay when I am done. I will definitely get pix.

I also snagged a pack of $1 erasers that look like food and these look to the scale of my doll. I also found this gorgeous pewter pitcher that's my doll's scale at a random garage sale. Dalice is thinking of hosting their book club (with the MH girls) now that she has a place and stuff to entertain with ;)

Post Merge: August 14, 2012, 11:57:32 AM

Okay, so my food isn't super finished, but I do have something to show. I thought I'd take pix to help get people inspired. Plus, I almost have my doll's first outfit done. Well, her skirt is. I have been SO busy with ponies. Also, this person is my new miniature food-making idol.

The cheesecake needs some paint touch ups and the strawberries need gloss varnish. I also want to try to drizzle some 'strawberry glaze' on the top. We'll see. It also needs a plate.

I'm not happy with my sushi, the seaweed wrap is too thick and needs to be a darker green.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I need to paint some gradients onto the food and make the soda brown. The coffee cup (along with Dalice's accessories) are from a Moxie Teenz pack.

Okay, Challenge 6: Table or bar! Make/rig/buy a table or bar for your dolls to set their food on. I will have to research links for these later (you guys are more than welcome to in the meantime).
[hint: think about what kind/how tall your dining chairs/bar stools are going to be because that just might be the next challenge...  :shifty:

I haven't made any food (and I won't be able to until I can afford more craft supplies  >_<) but I got around to buying fabric and making some upholstery and decorations~

Everything's still looking pretty bare... I've got a few picture frames that are waiting to be painted and filled with victorian natural history illustrations though, and moderately high hopes of finding some kind of shelving unit at the flea market this weekend.

Dawn, your room looks great!! I think the red really makes it feel like a home :) Your dolls look quite content :D

Okay, I think I want to go with something a bit like this. I love transitional. Don't think I like that table though.

Okay, just a little bit of pic spam.  ^.^

I went through my doll stuff to find some things I already had on hand that I think will go with the Harry Potter theme.  Unfortunately, I forgot to include my doll-size cauldron and Ravenclaw scarf in the picture and I had two more house color scarves that I can't find right now.  I also can't find my potion bottles, probably buried in one of my craft containers.  I was so glad to find the Bratz crystal ball, so I really can have divination class now! :D

I tried making some food.  A loaf of French bread, a chocolate frog, and three pumpkin pasties.

Some new doll stuff I got in this week.  I may end up painting on aqua and black accents and using these for Cleo:

More new doll stuff:  This set, I absolutely love!  I need two more of each of the plates to have a full set, and I want to paint the candle flames, so they look more realistic.  I wouldn't mind getting more of these, so I can set up a Great Hall feast.

And more new doll stuff:  Lots of little bottles, that I want to make molds of and cast in clear resin.  A pair of pinking shears for Frankie for sewing projects (I want to paint the blades silver and may paint the handles either blue or red).  And a mirror that'll be perfect for Draculaura once I paint some black accents on it.

My mom came home with this awesome rocking chair:

I'll try to get a photo of the entire thing tomorrow!

(This exactly about dolls, but still about miniatures > )The other day I went to the Dollar Store and they had really small red doll furniture made of wood. I grabbed one of everything for experimenting. Well, the moment I took everything out of it's packaging, I found out it's the PERFECT size for G4 ponies. So I spray painted everything black. I'll take pictures tomorrow!

Yay for mom!! Nice chair :)

My dollar tree used to have those too, and of course, as soon as I started this thread I think all the NW dollar tree's yanked all their miniatures off the shelves and burned them. Just a theory. Can't wait to see :)

Also, this flikr group "the best of Monster high" has some great photos and some of them have such cute rooms like this one http://www.flickr.com/photos/carole_anne/6865084479/in/pool-1787014@N23/

Well, I have the stuff to make my doll's table, and something to make a bar for my MH dolls but have I put it together? No. Although I do have a good reason, my brother-in-law died the other day unexpectedly and we have been preparing the house to adopt a couple of cats. I do want to work on it and the chairs this week though.

So, this week's challenge is to make/find or buy at least 2 chairs or barstools for your bar or table. Also, I think we should have 2 weeks on this one. That should give us a bit more time to finish the previous challenge too.

Also, when you finish, get a pic of your doll(s) at the table with some of your food if you can :) Feel free to use the walls & floor from challenge 4 :)

I forgot to post this, but I found a pack of 6 dessert erasers in the school supply section at target. I intended them to be for my Liv Dolls, they're a bit big for them, though. But they're perfect for my AG dolls! (Pics later)

Alicat that looks so nice!! Yumm! Did it come with the plate?
My cheesecake glaze worked and I'll have to remember to get and post pix too.

Yah, the eraser food was a good scale for my 16" doll but would have been way too big for MH. Some of the packs did have food that was way too big.

My table for Dalice and bar for my MH dolls are coming along but not done. I need to get it together so I can make those chairs.

Should the next challenge (in a week and a half) be a rug for the dining area? I want something simple before we delve into the bedroom  I mean delve into building the bedroom

{Also, just a heads up: I may be 'hosting'  :shifty: a 'Headless Hunt' in October which means you will be acquiring/making a horse (or other mount) for your doll. So, keep an eye out for a cheap one if you want to participate in it. It'll also mean acquiring or making some tack. I think we should post pix on a separate 'Headless Hunt' thread just to show off our work. Your doll doesn't have to be headless but it should be fall or Halloween themed.}

I'm a bit confused. So we will be aquiring something along the lines of a barbie horse for our dolls, right? Or will we be customizing one? Or..  :what:

Whatever you feel like doing :) I got an old American Girl Horse who is a good size for my doll, but she needs some work to make her pretty. Barbie horses are great and cheap at 2nd hand stores. You don't have to customize them (unless you want to), just have one and get a pic of your doll riding or next to it in a spooky place. And you have 2 months, just think about it and if you see a super cheap one you like, grab it :) I just mentioned it early because they might be harder to find than some other things.

Hehe, I have plenty of horses, but they aren't quite tall enough for my MH gals.  The Breyers are decent sized though in comparison.  I have a draft Breyer I need to repair and paint....can that count?

I'm a stickler for scale too. I found a random, hard plastic horse that is a perfect scale for Barbie and Monster High, much taller than Barbie horses.

Hey, whatever horse you want. I've seen adults ride REALLY small horses/ponies. Whatever floats you. But don't worry too much about them yet, it's just for your brain to tuck away and germinate... You are also more than welcome to use a horse you have already, like we do with furniture.

Okay, here are some of my supplies. The stuff on the right is hopefully going to be my MH dolls' bar, the stuff on the left is possibly going to maybe be a table...

Here is the bar in progress. I glued the little spools on as feet and I am still trying to figure out what I want for a top.

oops, forgot. The wooden tabletop and balsa wood are from Joanns, as is that cool paper. I love that stuff. Spools are probably from Joanns years ago. Big beads make great feet too. I am upcycling a Nestle Quick container because I liked the shape.

TXGal, I know, huh. SO addicting. I am pretty good at turning junk into stuff, but she is like Jedi-level. Did you see the shower? And she was chopping up a plastic hanger to use for stuff and I NEVER would have thought of that. There's a few links on here to the froggy stuff, I used her tutorial on barstools for mine and I have to make some more for my MH guys.

Thanks, the green picture frame was from a Michaels dollar bin (along with most of the frames painted white on Dalice's wall) I LOVE small frames. I snag them when I see them. They are also great for paper crafting. I need to work on this today...

Ok, here are some really late pictures.  >.>

First, the food I made from poly clay, and that I have repainted from the frankie fashion set.  The pie is now cheesecake with strawberry topping, left the green the way it was, painted the food on the fork as well.  Repainted the drink too, and added glitter.  =]

They are down here in Granbury, so if you need me to nab them, let me know and I'll watch for them again.  =D

Thank you everyone!  It was really simple to do the bread, and I'm sure you could do it with the salt dough recipe that Froggy Princess uses...I just used some tan sculpey from walmart, rolled out three even sized ropes, and just braided them together.  You squish the first bits together, and just squish the last bits together, forming the end a little bit to look like the end of a loaf of bread.  =]  I'll seeif I can find that recipe and post it on here.  It's what she used for the round loaf (I sadly don't have flour, so I just used more sculpey.

The furniture is some bratz furniture from ebay that i just loooove.  Ghoulia's rainbow tights come from ebay from an international seller, and I know you can get some from thedaughterthatsews (think that is her name...y'all probably know who I'm talking about).

Thank you so much Salli!  I wanted them to look like they were having a nice chat...soon as the little coffees I ordered come in, they will have those too (all my monster high dolls have new homes as of today!  Was taking the trash down, someone had left a bookshelf by the dumpster, and I hauled it upstairs! )

TXGal- I may just ask you to grab them for me if you see them again. We get everything so late here. YAY for bookshelves!! Especially free ones :)

SO, yesterday I sat with my glue gun and did a bunch of work on pony costuming AND doll furniture. I got my MH bar almost done, plus 2 barstools done and I am putting together a background for them, and I'm calling the club 'The Absinthe Room' because the accents are all in poison green. I am having wayyyy too much fun with it though :) I found some green straws in my utensil drawer to make barstool legs from and it worked :) I will post tomorrow when my torsos come. Dalice's table is not making me happy, so I ripped the legs off and will try something new. I also have not managed to make her some chairs, it may have to wait.

I haven't heard a vote from anyone, so  I have not heard from anyone on voting for our next project. Do we want to do something simple like a plant or clock or something easy or are we ready to make a bed for our dollies?

I'm running so behind...the last week and a half here has been crazy and things probably won't settle down again for another few days, so I haven't even started on a table and benches...I was wanting to do a couple of tables like in the Great Hall at Hogwarts and some benches to go with it.  Salli, I can't wait to see your AbsintheRoom!  Sounds like it's going to be amazing.

I was thinking it would be neat, when we get through with the furniture self challenge, to do a fashion self challenge...like a pair of pants one week, a shirt the next, etc.

I am way behind too. My absinthe room isn't as cool as it sounds. I'd like to make a more steampunk one that really looked cool.

Great minds think alike!! I wanted to do that too! I can make clothes, but it's so hard for me to schedule them. I think I may start it (or someone else can) after we do some bedroom and bathroom stuff.

Also, I hate my Absinthe Room. I am starting over on it. I have nothing to show for the past 2 weeks  :( but we will start on beds anyway :)

So, challenge 8 is a bed. It could also be a sleeping bag if you want. Just give your doll a place to sleep. A blanket and pillow would be nice. The nice thing about doll beds is that you can just cover a box and voila! instant bed! Good luck everyone!

Well, this currently doesn't really fit into any of the categories/challenges, unless you count it as a chair for my daughter's kitty (I kinda tried to make it for her littlest pet shop kitty as well), but here's a 'cat bed' I made.  I kinda made it chairlike with a back as well.  I thought it turned out pretty good for my first 'recycled' project in years!  My daughter is thrilled with it!

I really love those pics!  Ooh, the I Love Lucy styled stuff is so neat!  Actually, I like them all, haha.  I think my hardest decision is going to be picking a theme for the barbies and sticking to it.  Maybe that's why I want to start with my ponies.  Generally, all things relatively frilly and Victorian in style seem to suit them... for some reason or other.  Except G4s... I want to make things like in the show!  Hhahaha

That mansion!  *dies* I want it!

Today was a good day for dolly stuff.  I got some little custards in the mail that I've been waiting on for awhile.  At the thrift store I found this strand of battery-operated orange lights; they can blink off and on too and they were only $1.  I'm not sure yet what I'll do with them but they're really neat and perfectly dollhouse-sized.  At Dollar General, I picked up some wood-patterned contact paper for making a floor and the table and benches for Great Hall scenes.  They also had a pack of four 2" tall plastic cauldrons, which I bought.  And I also picked up a pack of 3 battery-operated orange tealight "candles" which will make a great light source. And the pack of candles and cauldrons were only $1 each!

Edited to add pics:

I forgot to include my little string of lights though.

I picked up this small lion vase thing a couple of weeks ago at the thrift store.  I want to make a column to stand it on and a little matching square piece to go around the top to hide the candle, so that it'll look sort of like the torch stands in the Hogwarts hallways in the movies.

Minerva Midnight is enjoying her new cauldron!  I've got one of the tealight "candles" placed in the stack of wood.

I know, that mansion is super cute. I am holding out for one of those new disney princess castles to show up at a yard sale or something someday to customize. Wouldn't it make a cute Hogwarts? I think I am just going to do a non-specific castle.

Yay!  Saba is here!  =D

 ^.^  Aww, thanks!

Bewilderness, I love the lion vase!  I just found a cute candle holder for 15cents at the local thrift that is perfect for my ponies!  I'll have to take a pic yet.  And yay for little light strings!  I've been hoping to find some for myself!  I want to decorate for Christmas with them... and I'm hoping to build a dollhouse for then (for my childhood Calico Critters set).  That dollhouse pic is so neat!  I just wish I could see the furniture and the inside!

So, I've decided I'm going to build a dollhouse.  Yup.  From scratch.  I'm not sure how this is going to work, lol.  it's going to be very simple (flat, kinda like a bookshelf) but I want to design the interior to look very miniature... realistic if I can.  I'm making a bed for my Mr and Mrs Fieldmouse, but my sewing machine quit on me.  It looks like I'll have to take it in (darn) for servicing.  I can't for the life of me figure out why it won't work.  I've cleaned it, taken the presser foot area apart, checked the needle... the thread keeps hooking on the bobbin... thing... gah, I don't know what it is called.  You use it to place the bobbin into the machine.  I felt it and cant find anything it would hook on, but it is staying on there and then winds multiple times.  I think a service is all I can do for it now.

Anyway, the bed frame is made, and I just need to make a mattress, blanket and pillows.  It's made from twigs.  No joke.  I figure, mice could have twig beds!  It just made sense to me, haha.  I'll probably hand sew the stuffs and then take pics when it's all done.

Ooh!  I'm done the bed!  Here are pics!

Here is the bed!  it's made of twigs, wire to hold them before I used hot glue, and fabric scraps.  It's a scant 4" cube.

Those are some fantastic bathroom!

I've got a commode already; picked it up at the thrift store three or four years ago.  I saw a tub last month at the thrift store but I was running low on money.  Wish now I'd gotten it.

Wish I could find time to do some crafting this week. It's my daugter's birthday tomorrow, and my husband's on Sunday, so needless to say things have been a little crazy for me with making cakes and prepping presents and the like.  My sewing machine is at the shop right now too (sigh).  I just spent today baking cakes/cupcakes and buns.
