i keep getting ponies which have a substance in their hair which i think is conditioner:
they are silky and somehow "heavy" and when i wash their hair it gets "greasy" (in a good way) and smells like heaven. :)
and when treated with the flat iron it becomes SUPER silky and shiny.
i wanted to ask which products do you pony people use for conditioning the pony hair? please give me as much info as you got as i live in europe so may the product has to be ordered online :D
-
I use the Herbal Essences conditioner in the dark orangy-red bottle, think it's an anti-frizz one. It smells lush and is the best conditioner I have ever found for pony hair :)
-
I find Pantene does the trick! :)
-
I am currently using Redken conditioner. It's super expensive, however, and am only using it because a friend gave it to me.
-
do you wash it out completely like at your own hair? or do you leave some of it in the hair??
-
I leave most of it in my hair lol, but pony hair I wash all of it out unless the hair is super-frizzy, in which case I leave a tiny bit in the ends to tame the fuzzies :)
-
maybe I should try a different brand. I used a bunch recently on a frizzy g3 but it left the hair with little curly frizz, sort of webbyness that won't comb out. although most of it is fine. ya know?
... or maybe that's not fixable?
-
I use Aberto Balsam conditoner, mainly because I can get it from poundland (I think they still stock it, I need some more) and its a fruity themed range so you get lots of nice scents, like apple or strawberries and cream, XD

lol, i hope we are talking about the same stuff :D conditioner (i use it after normal shampooing under the shower, leave it 2minutes on the hair and wash it out) - and the other stuff is a spray i apply after showering in the moist hair and do not wash it out.
what is what now :D :D
-
I always just use a little fabric softener. I dilute about half a cap full in a cup of water and dunk the pony in, let her sit for a while, then rinse most of it out.
-
I use the cheapest shampoo and conditioner I can find (V05 brand). Seems to work just fine. =P
-
Right now I'm using a product that is meant to be used with a flat iron... Thermasilk. It's working really well!

I actually ADORE VO5 shampoo for my own hair!! I don't know why but I prefer it to Suave!
As for me, I have this bottle of White Rain conditioner from like...1993. I know, weird, but it still works on my ponies.
-
I use Johnsons Baby Shampoo & Conditioner! I cant decide if its because I am worried about the soap getting in the ponies eyes or if its just because chemically its one of the gentlest options out there.
-
I use Johnson's baby shampoo, any type of "natural" shampoo or ...Laundry detergent. I usually reserve the laundry detergent for a pony with awful hair and let it sit for 24 - 48 hours. Comes out so wonderful. ^___^
-
I use Fekkai olive oil shampoo (pony hair LOVES olive oil, it really makes it shiny!), and moisturizing conditioner. I would say the brand is less important than the ingredients ;)
-
I use a wig shampoo and conditioner :) Since it's made for synthetic hair, it works really well with the ponies.
-
I use some kinda all natural shampoo & conditioner. They smell nice :D

Now that is one of those ideas that makes perfect sense! I ll need to look into that...

What a good idea. Makes sense!
I use Avon Advance Techniques Damage Repair Reconstructive Mask for dry or damaged hair. Mainly because it's cheap. Sometimes it goes on sale for $2 (I think.)

I thought so too  I have a wig that I used to wear to work when I had crazy hair, and I got those with it. They were from a wig shop specifically, not sure what other type of stores would carry them. There's always the internet!
This is the brand I use. Smells pretty good too! :)

I use both on my hair, just normal after-shampoo conditioner for pony hair :)

downy fabric softener left to sit overnight is a miracle worker!
-
I change conditioners every month for my hair so whatever I have at the time. They all work great but what I've found is a product I put in the hair after it dries. It's Suave sleek anti-frizz cream. It smells like heaven and works wonders on the pony. I apply more than recommended. I let it sit over night and then just brush through the pony's hair a couple times. I even use it on the ponies hair that I wouldn't use conditioner on because I want to keep the factory curls. It doesn't hurt the curls at all and helps decrease frizz.
-
somones going to laugh at me...but....
i scrub ponys and the hair with "mane and tail" and then condition the hair with the conditioner form of mane and tail....but...ive been using it on myself for going on 15 years.......seems to work rather well

A woman my mom used to buy me ponies from when I was little apparently used wig shampoo as well. I've been meaning to find myself some for years and years o.O But alas, I'm probably too cheap to want to pay for it anyway. How much does your average bottle cost? I do imagine you can't find wig shampoo everywhere...
-
I use Henna wax (or Henara wax) conditioner on ponies. I often dump them in the tub and leave them for a bit if they're really bad. It's brilliant stuff! Comes in decent size tubs that are big enough for an adult pony head.
-

Same here! I find one conditioner works pretty much as well as another on pony hair (considering it's not real hair) so you may as well just find a cheap one with a nice scent!
-
I use Pantene Pro-V Restoratives Time Renewal conditioner. It works really well if you want to get your pony's hair straight, and it also works (to some extent) on frizz. But I'm willing to try out other stuff once I have enough time for that.
I tend to wash my pony's hair with it, than rinse it, comb the hair and let it dry.
I don't apply and leave the conditioner on ponies, because I keep hearing that it could make the hair greasy (since nylon, obviously, doesn't absorb the conditioner like natural hair does).
-
I use fabric softener for ponies who have really bad hair. It really does the trick!
If it is just a regular wash, though, I will just use whatever shampoo + conditioner I have at the time.
-
I dye my hair red, and I accumulate that nice conditioner for dye jobs. I use it on my ponies and I swear by it!
I use Johnsons Baby Shampoo & Conditioner! I cant decide if its because I am worried about the soap getting in the ponies eyes or if its just because chemically its one of the gentlest options out there.
O_O Your siggy!! !I drew that YEARS ago!!!! I didn't know it was still around!!!
-
I was going to ask this recently myself!
It's interesting to see what people use (especially since the few times I've tried to wash & condition a pony they did not turn out very well)
lately I've been using a doll wig conditioning spray. It helps keep the flyaways down but there are a few ponies I have that are getting pretty dry that I think could use something a little more intense.
Does anyone do anything special for ponies with tinsel?
-
I've used liquid fabric softener on my ponies' hair.
-
I have been using Suave shampoo because it's cheap, but still does the job.
Recently, I engaged in a large project of cleaning my friend's 140+ ponies. They had been sitting in dust and grime for over 20 years. Many of which had hair so dry that it made that awful crinkling sound when you handled it.
So after a shampoo, I'd lather the hair in conditioner, let it sit for about 15 minutes and then slowly rinse it out as I tried to comb out the tangles. Worked like magic. Really made the hair soft and managable again.
I would imagine most generic brand shampoo gives you the exact same results.
-
My ponies use the same conditioner than me: Tresemme Color Fade Protection  It has even tamed some wild tinsels.
I've used some other brands before and all of them have given good results if I've let them sit long enough and repeated the treatment if needed :relaxed:
-
maybe I should start a new thread, but can anypony suggest what to do with pony hair that even after conditioning has a persistent curly webby texture? the hair is combable, but about a third of the hairs "spring back" into teeny curly threads.
-
@Rhini I ll add to PinkRosedusts questions sorry! Where do you purchase it? I ll need to think of a UK equivalent - I really fancy giving this a try.

Whoops sorry didn't realize someone had asked me a question! Mine was from a local wig shoppe, so that's not much help, but I did a quick google search and you can buy it on US Amazon, anywhere from $5 to $10 and ebay and hair care sites yadda yadda. I did a .co.uk search too and lots of listings still came up :)

We are having a Celebrate SDS day! We have to make sure she knows how awesome she is!

I use fabric softener. I also have some wig conditioner and hairspray. For shampoo I use mild handsoap (if any).

I use this too! It is by far the best!

I do- if its the colored tinsel (like the G1 stuff) I flat iron- while its wet. It works best if you can sort the tinsel out from the hair. For the clear tinsel I use dryer sheets and cool water- no heat ever. It get a sort of weird film on it but straightens the tinsel out and reduces frizz. After I just shampoo (to get rid of the residue) and condition like normal :)

I'm not too sure what you mean by webby texture without seeing the pony. My best guess is maybe the hair has been damaged by heat. You can attempt to try and flatten it out with a flat iron if you are careful. Even then, if the hair is already damaged it's going to always have an odd texture. Other than that, I'm not sure what can be done outside if rehairing.
maybe I should start a new thread, but can anypony suggest what to do with pony hair that even after conditioning has a persistent curly webby texture? the hair is combable, but about a third of the hairs "spring back" into teeny curly threads.

ok, I'll post a pic sometime in a new thread. thanks for the advice!

I use Mane and Tail on my own hair. It's the only shampoo/conditioner I've found EVER that works with my hair. I have a joke that I actually really am a My Little Pony!
I never use it on my ponies though. For them I use Suave, mostly because I had leftover bottles from before I discovered M&T, but they seem to work very well for synthetic hair.

I ll second the fact pictures will be needed :P but it does sound like hair that is heat damaged.
