Title: Why are there so few G4 babies?
Post by: keikokukien on May 30, 2012, 08:21:04 PM
So, when I decided to start collecting the G4 line, I was SUPER excited to see more "baby" or "filly" ponies. The odd thing is that Hasbro seems to have stopped with just the CMCs (Scootaloo, Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle) and Star Dreams (Who is super hard to get, sadly... ). Is anybody else a little disappointed that this year, there still don't seem to be any new baby ponies?

I would have thought maybe at least three new ones a year or something similar...^^; And after all the CMC episodes in the series, they have some really cool designs to pull from. Of course, it's awesome that we are getting Granny Smith and some boy ponies this year (YAY!! :D) I just wish there were more of the adorable G4 babies to collect.

Does anyone else here wish that Hasbro would make a few more baby ponies? If they did, what fillies would you like to see? Personally, I'd love some art/music themed sets in the future, but it would also be cool to have a Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon brushable with some cute accessories. (Or Twist! A pony with glasses! :D )

Eh, give it time. Babies always have come later in every line. At least we have some so far! I'm sure that means there will be more, especially given that they've already made a random baby not from the show.

Personally I'd like to see ANY baby who actually has a symbol! I'm not much of a fan of blank-flanks. The symbol is half the fun...

Would love to have a Diamond Tiara, admittedly. :D
And some of the other more unique baby ponies, such as Twist as you mentioned, or Featherweight would be awesome to see.
Snips and Snails, too.

I won't hold my breath, though.
Baby versions of the mane 6 would be cute, in the same vein as the babies from G1, but then that may pose questions about their fathers, haha.

...because G4 has only been around a couple years.... I do want to see more eventually though and I hope they still decide to release those 3 flower girl ones that were at toy fair. I'd love to see some that have cutie marks. The set  with Star Dreams I hope will hit stores or hasbrotoshop soon too.

Haha! XD Well, maybe they could market that set as a "trip to the past" or something. It would be interesting to see. They have...magical fathers. XD ; Ooh Featherweight would be cool!

PinkRosedust: Ah, good point. Hasbro reuses alot of moulds...so hopefully Star Dreams is a good sign of things to come. XD And yes! Totally agree. While I find the story behind "blank-flanks" cute, the symbols kinda made the ponies. Like the G1 babies.

I so want a baby with a symbol!!!  Ok, I want lots of them, haha.  I love the baby ponies!

The trouble with Snips and Snails, cute as they are, is that they have very different body types from the standard copy and paste thing the show does. Of course, they could always make them show-inaccurate I guess, but they don't have many boy pony options as is. Although people seem to like the G1 (?) baby boy ponies enough.

I would like to see more baby ponies!

I just wish the non-CMC ponies, like the slumber party one, had symbols / cutie marks!

I think that Hasbro mostly puts out the CMCs because they want to match the show.  But yeah, more baby ponies would be grrrrrrreat!

Since G4s are so small already and the filly characters are even smaller just how small would babies like the ones of Mr and Mrs Cake have to be?

Not that I wouldn't want them. I love the Cake family.

Size of the bag ponies? Out of curiosity, what is the size of Spike compared to the child ponies? I know he's smaller than them in the show.

(Good god, a proportional-sized just-hatched Spike toy would probably be the size of a pea!)

I definitely would love many more G4 baby ponies. They're so tiny compared to previous gens and that make's them all the cuter for me.

i would venture to say actualy on the cake twins as being roughly about the size of the only version we have of spike..seems like a fair size for them

as for blank flanks...thats the reason i love the cmc's.....however a filly twilly and dashie...ugh fall over from the cuteness but dashies hair would HAVE to be butched back all tom boy like to get the full effect

as soon as i saw cherlee school set i was like umm where the rest of the school and wheres the rest of the fillys?...even in toy inacuracy id like to see some more if nothing else atleast those who have spoken in the show

Perhaps they would be giant "So Soft" talking dolls?   ^.^

Hey, if they made a new shape just for Spike, maybe they'll redesign the next ponies of that size to look more like the babies of Season 2 of the show.

I actually thought the "So Soft" Spike plush looked more ponyish than the ponies!

I'd love to see the Cake twins, in the veins of g1 newborn twins!  :lovey:

But, really any babies/kids (the cmc aren't really "babies" per se) with symbols would be nice to see.  :)

I wonder if Hasbro feels like they backed themselves into a corner with the G4 fillies. "Pony with a picture on its butt" has always been the standard for the definition of what a MLP is (baring a few special cases). Now they try to put out fillies with no cutie marks, to match the show, and thus take away an important element of their toy.

I think a creative design team could work around it. I'd love to see "Growing Up" sets, with the same character depicted as both a filly and adult pony w/cutie mark.  Something similar to the My Pretty Mermaids would be cool too, where cutie marks are revealed when exposed to water.  Or maybe a blank flank filly with sticker sheet, so you could choose what cutie mark she grows into.  Play value anyone?

Besides that, many of the "school age" background ponies on FiM *do* have cutie marks, so I see no real trouble with selling them with.  A mix would be nice.

I don't see why the other young G4 ponies don't have cutie marks. The thing about the CMC is that they're the only ones their age who haven't gotten a cutie mark, so it makes more sense to have all the other fillies with a cutie mark. Leaving non-CMC fillies as blank flanks smacks more of cost cutting than anything else to me.

Ohhhhh, what about a set based off of the international Surprise Twin set, where you washed off a diaper to reveal their symbol?

OR!  What if they made a set of babies with glow-in-the-dark cutie mark paint that "blended in" to their base color in the light, but became visible in the dark?

I agree, I can just imagine the people in charge of the toys going, "Young ponies don't have their cutie marks yet?  Awesome!  We can save a few cents per toy by not having to stamp any of them!"

This x 100! I just want some symbols on the babies! There are only so many hair/body colour combinations before everyone could start to look boring without symbols...come on Hasbro!

I'd love a set of the Cake family.  And I agree, I'd love more fillies.
Maybe now that we've gotten a few more "show accurate" ponies (Trixie, Zecora, etc) they'll consider more show-accurate fillies.  Seems to be SMALLLLLL steps getting toys that relate to the show, that aren't the mane 6.  Look how long it took for a white Celestia...
Title: Re: Why are there so few G4 babies?

I would LOVE to see more fillies!  I think "flashback" fillies of the main 6 would be great, but I'd freak out with happiness if they made filly Twilight and she came with her two parents and (not quite adult yet) big brother, and filly Pinkie Pie came with her parents and two sisters, etc.... I just love my G1 family sets and I'd love to see more!

Also, yeah, wasn't one of the points of the first CMC episode that Applebloom, Scootaloo, and Sweetie Belle were special for NOT having their cutie marks yet?  Most/all of the other ponies their age have them already.  I wish the filly toys that weren't CMCs had cutie marks...

What does CMC mean?

Cutie Mark Crusaders, they're three younger ponies in the show who don't have their cutie marks while everyone else their age does. So they banded together to try and get their cutie marks (not that it really seems to be working, lol). ^^

I love these ideas! Especially the sticker cutiemarks. It could be like the monster high create a monster, packs.

Actually, there's three flower fillies for the wedding line. Which is weird, since the CMC were the flower fillies in the show.
And they also have a set where they're flower fillies.
I dunno, but these no-name flower fillies were seen at the Toy Fair and are monochromatic.

Hm, I dunno about stickers. I sometimes come across second hand G3 styling ponies (which came with stickers) and they're a mess! Gooey residue everywhere, tons of stickers tangled in the hair, I've even seen where the ink from the stickers has bled though to the plastic! I suppose it wouldn't be nearly so bad on a tiny G4 baby, but it could still spell trouble..

At this point I do have some faith in Hasbro, based on the awesome ponies that are yet to come...but at the same time, I can TOTALLY see them never putting symbols on any of the babies. I really hope that isn't our fate for G4 babies though...(also I don't think I can get used to calling them anything other than baby ponies, despite the fact they aren't actual babies - kids, fillies, whatever...they're all just non-adults to me! =P )

Sadly I'm losing interest in the G4 line. They're so bland and sameface compared to the older generations. T____T

There aren't any babies! The CMC and the other little ponies are just kids! A baby would be like Pound or Pumpkin Cake. I want more tiny (brushable) ponies in general!! So cute and little!

Well, people generally think of 'kid' ponies as baby ponies because in G1, the little ponies were always called babies (and that's what they were in subsequent generations, too). Even after they came out with Newborns and even Teeny Tinies, they were all still babies. So that's kind of the mindset we have now in reference to the toys...it's just awkward sounding calling them Kid ponies...

that was indeed the CMC as flower fillys....so..take the CMC set toss some flower outfits on em re-box em for the wedding=instant profit without need of new product.;..im totaly going to grab it cause they were ADORABLE ..but to me the CMC is what being a kid is all about..not knowing who you are what your going to be etc etc etc..and thus why i love them being blank flanks

Ah, put that way, it makes you want to smile. :) That's so true. I think you just changed my view on the whole 'blank-flank' vs. cutie marks debate, at least for this generation. I still wish there was more variety...but maybe like many members have said already, Hasbro just needs time.

Wow. There are some awesome ideas here! The stickers and glow in the dark/color change ideas would be cool to collect and I'm sure kids would like the novelty. Omgosh, glow-in-the-dark babies *_* That just sounds so cute!

Thank you, PinkRosedust! That's a good description. To me, the teeny tiny ponies were the real babies, but I was born a few years after the show came out and it influenced my views on the toy line alot. The show had the "baby" or young adult(?) ponies in a nursery, but also adventuring and things, so I used to think they were like the older baby ponies, but still baby ponies. This gen is kind of hard to pinpoint.

The baby Cakes would be super cute, either way. :3

I think the baby ponies are soooo cute and I would love to see more! I just wish they had symbols, they look a bit bare without them :P The G3 line didn't have a whole lot of babies compared to the amount of adult ponies. And it seems like most of the G3 babies were Target exclusives so they were harder to get ahold of.

Where are my Flower Fillies?   The set I have been looking forward to most is the one they had on preview at the toy fair with the 3 little unicorns.  We have seen signs of other wedding stuff, but not these guys. I hope they do still come out! Granted I do like their little outfits, but I do not need another identical Applebloom, Scootaloo, and Sweetie Belle to the ones I already have.

One day they need to make baby (or filly, for the folks being super technical out there :P  I really think baby is just a blanket term for a smaller size pony toy) versions of the main 6 ponies. I would love a mini Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy, etc.

I think it would be a fantastic idea if they did Big and little sister ponies. I just want to see more babies!
