Title: HK Yellow Moondancer - some questions
Post by: Emfen on April 23, 2012, 04:32:55 AM
Okay so, for xmas mum bought a surprise lot for me. I wasn't aware of the ponies in it until I got the box and when I opened it up to my eyes I found a lot of pretty ponies inside. But what caught my eye was Moondancer, she was yellow! I've looked at the pony wiki to get some kind of idea about her but that's about it.
My main thoughts now are, is she rare? And if so is she sought after? And what does she usually go for?

I'm terrbile at "nirvanas" so I hoped someone here could help to provide some information about her.

Yes and yes. That's all I know. :P

Congrats!! That's awesome! :)
She is both rare and sought after. As far as I am aware she is worth about $100 but that was a few years ago so could have changed.

There are 2 yellow Moondancers - Hong Kong and Italy produced. Both are htf and I would say the HK one is slightly more popular.
They were released in Scandinavia alongside regular white Moondancer. Not sure on value but I'd say atleast $50

I have a HK Yellow Moondancer, which I bought for £50 ($75-80)

As Sebby said, there are 2 versions of Yellow Moondancer - the Italian one says 'Italy' under the hoof and has the classic italian blue eyes and no forelock. I believe her symbol is also metallic not glittery.

As far as I can tell HK Yellow Moondancer is like Moondancer in every respect except her body is a bright sunshine yellow.

No idea whether one is rarer than the other but I suspect the value is much the same.

Oh my! I had the feeling she was special, but not that special!
My gal isn't tip-top condition tho, her symbol is a tad faded and a cut has been made in her purple stripe.

That's right - I have the Italian Yellow Moondancer and she has metallic symbols. The moon is also reversed on her display side on mine. I believe the value of both the HK and Italy versions is the same.

What a great find Emfen!!! You ll need to get your mum to spot some more pony lots for you if she tracks down a Yellow Moondancer!

I am sure you will be able to rehair the stripe if you wish...although that may depend on if you are keeping her in your collection or selling on...she is a great pony to add to your collection in whatever condition!

I think I paid about the same as Jem around the £40-45 mark for mine a couple of years ago. I havent seen an HK one for sale for a while but I would still put her around the $65-70ish mark [nirvana forum may give you a better pc however].

Seems the nirvana gallery don't have a pic of this lady? :what:
Maybe I should donate one of her then?  ^.^

Not to go OT, but that lot wasn't any usual one. Got a scandinavian Gusty in excellent shape, unfaded licketysplit and posey and an italy peachy. xD
I remember she payed like 100$ for it, totally worth it!  :)

Allmost like that, but in Scandinavia we never got the white Moondancer to begin with ( not Glory, Twilight, Sunbeam or Medley eighter). Yellow Moonie was our standard Moonie. :)

My very first pony was white Moondancer (I'm Danish and I remember choosing her in the shop)
I've also found several at fleamarkets in Denmark. Can't say for the other Scandinavian countries though

I have found out that Denmark had a slightly diffrent range of ponies then what we had in Sweden and Norway (and possibly Finland)! :) Among them it where Italian earth ponies ( probably the full set with Applejack, Bowtie, Bubbles, Seashell, Cotton Candy and Blossom) you might as well have had the Italian uni/peg set? My guess is that you got your first ponies around 1985/1986 as the rest of us did, and the first HK set with earthlings and uni/peg ponies wheren't in production this late. But Italy started to produce and export ponies around this time.
Do you remember if your Moondancer was the white Italian one or the regular HK one? ( you maybe still have her? )

My Moondancer was the Italian one (and bought in 1985 :) ) - the 2 I found at the fleamarket were HK.

Fantastic! You don't happen to remember what her card looked like? The Italian made earthlings you got had a standard earthling card with danish text on it...
I will keep in mind that you have found HK ones as well. They could be vacation ponies, as they don't fit the picture with release years, but you never know untill proof is found. :)
