Lily Blossom? Really? She must feel pretty special to have replaced Princess Celestia from last year's set. They even bothered to sculpt her mane to match her artwork when I don't believe she's ever appeared in the TV show like that!

LOL I'm not a huge Celestia fan so I didn't even notice until I read that. Still, I think it's cool - I'd like to see more of the toy-only characters (esp. Honeybuzz or Blossomforth!).

Wait...didn't we have toys like these like, a year ago? Granted I like the little keychain-thingies that come with them, and I do like that Lily Blossom. But couldn't they wait another year or so, or maybe another few months, so people won't go into pony overload?

I really like the inclusion of Lily Blossom and how they've used her box art - I wonder whether she'll be sought after as a new pony or ignored because she's not a show pony?

I am in the persuasion of people who are not terribly impressed. To answer some of the questions above... they usually come out one and a time with a time delay around here. So they will have one for a few weeks and then a shipment of the next one. They usually don't keep a ton of toy back stock. At least not where I am. You can buy just the toy and not the meal but the last time I did this the toy literally cost more than half of the meal price. I assuming the spiked it up because they were losing money on the food sale.

I think Lily Blossom is likely an attempt to appease the bronies with a pseudo :muffin: Pony.
I dunno though, they kind of look...the same to me. Like their poses are altered just a tiny bit and otherwise they're the exact same as before. In fact I don't think Applejack's pose changed at all, or Cheeriliee's. They just have key chains now. I think this time I'll try and contain myself and just wait for loads of them to inevitably show up at the thrift store.

For anyone curious and doesn't want to subject themselves to McD's food (bleh) you can totally go in and purchase the toys by themselves. People do that all the time. They usually come to about $2, and usually most McD's have two toys at a time (in case the child already has one, they can get the other). I don't even go inside most times, I go through the drive thru late at night. :P
Keep in mind it's better to go when they're not busy (so not early morning when they're doing breakfast, or right at lunch or dinner time). McD's workers have a lot of pressure put on them to get orders complete and food out within a minute or two. Trying to stop the flow of orders so you can look at which toys they have disrupts them and might get you an annoyed look from a worker trying to keep up the pace. If you go at a slow time of day, the McD's workers will appreciate it and will be happy to look and see which toys they have. :)
I will be getting Rainbow Dash and Lily Blossom--a love her toy and backcard image! ^^ It would be awesome if she showed up on the show.

Since I followed that the Star Wars promotion would go along with the movie release, I checked HappyMeal.com today to see the next toy promotion to be MLP and Transformers. They even have a pic up!

Those are my exact thoughts! Lily Blossom is nice, but the rest look very similar (if not the same) to their last release....And are we even sure those are keychains on them? They look like....ugly brushes to me :P I see where there's a clip part in the ring, but I dont really see how they'll attach to the ponies.
Even though they look so similar to the last batch...it's still a little sad how McDonalds can pump out more molds and more exciting poses than Hasbro :P I mean, Hasbro couldn't even be bothered to give Fluttershy her own unique blind bag mold...

The purple pony is Lily Blossom. She has been released as a brushable pony and a blind bag.
I'm kinda disappointed that they are reusing most of the molds. I was hoping for new poses. I'll definitely have to pick up Lily Blossom though. She's always been a favorite and her toy looks lovely! :lovey:

I didn't get the McDonald's ponies the first time they came out. I only managed to get AppleJack, Rainbow Dash, and Cheerilee from a second hand store.
I am looking forward to getting this as kind of a 'second chance' type thing. They look pretty nice and I think it is pretty nifty if they are keychains, but I would worry about them getting all messed up or someone stealing them if I used them on my backpack. :P

I'm a bit confused as to why people are saying they look the same as the last set. They're clearly in different poses, which, being we're all MLP collectors, I'd think we'd all know that makes them different. I mean, look at all the re-releases we've had in all the different generations that are the same pony, but in a different pose, but I doubt anyone would say that CP and SP Applejack are the same thing or that Diva and Donkey pose Minty looked the same, right? To further illustrate my point, I made this:

Totally different poses, right? Anyway, that being said, I think I like this set better than the last one. In the last set, I hated Fluttershy's pose, which made me sad since she's my favorite. But this set, she looks adorable. I'm also really happy that they swapped out Celestia for Lily Blossom. I also wasn't too fond of Rarity's pose in the first set, so I like her in the second set better. I'll definitely pick up a few extra sets to trade. I kind of regretted not doing it the first time, but I didn't have much money to spend back then because I was still paying off my computer.

Ha! You're right, ShortyBoo! Thanks for the comparison picture. I simply glanced at the new toys and assumed. My own set of McD toys sit way up on a shelf in our back bedroom and are not looked at much. Boy do I feel silly now. :blush:

They really could have done something different with them. They all could be sitting or laying, which would make the poses very different. McDonalds had done finger puppets, plush toys, figures that do something like move or light up. There is a lot of direction they could have taken to make them more interesting than the last pony toys..

How exciting! I missed the last line so I'm excited about these! I have a job where I drive around all day and usually get fast food or just eat healthier snack bars in the car lol However my husband and I do enjoy eating out and when we go to McDonalds I usually get a happy meal, just cause the fries are smaller portion and the chicken nuggets aren't as bad as the other things but always have a toy I don't need! Looking forward to collecting toys I will enjoy! Love the Lily Blossom!

I think we're just impressed seeing eight new on-model poses all at once, compared to the main G4 lines that only introduce a couple of new poses in each size each year and tend to have very dull expressions.

Yikes, $24? I pay less than $9 total, including tax for 8 McDonald's toys. You must have some really steep taxes there.

I like Rarity and RBD's pose.. Now I don't know on the comb-thingies... Would be a bad direction if it's a keychain when they have brushable tails...
P.S. Is it possible to get just the toy and not the entire meal? (Though I can go for a tiny burger and fries as well....)

I'll for sure try to get a Lily Blossom. I'll have to go inside the McDonald's and see them in person before I decide on the others. I do like Fluttershy's pose much better, so I'll probably also try to get her, but her hair looks funny to me for some reason. Rarity's pose is also better, but they still gave her that awful pink tail!
I liked last year's Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash better. I just can't stand those awkward looking walking poses. It's looks like all of them except Lily Blossom and Fluttershy have their legs raised weirdly in some kind of crazy march.
I agree with someone else that said a laying down pose would be neat and different. I can see why they wouldn't make one though, as that would make the toy a bit more awkward to play with, with all the others standing.
I'm glad they're doing ponies again, but I was also hoping for ones that were a bit more different. And Lily Blossom does seem like a very random addition. I'm not complaining, as I do like her and she is the most different of the selection from last time, but it does seem random. The only thing I can think is that they got the vectors/character artwork from the toy department and the only one that had a unique style, instead of a recolor of the mane 6 or Cheerilee, was her. Honestly, I'm not even sure what the point of changing up their poses even was. They're visibly different, but still so very similar to their original poses. Perhaps it was just to tempt the completest collectors. *shrugs*

You don't have to buy a Happy Meal to get them cheaper. As long as you buy a food item (I usually get a shake or a Mocha Frappe) they're $1 each. If you only buy the toys, then, yeah, they're $2 each.

My McD's all sell the happy meal toys for $3 after tax (OK, it's more like $2.70something but for ease of math $3). $3 X 8 toys = $24. That's what I pay, that what I sell the set for. I know NY charges more for just about everything, and our sales tax is around 8.5% which does not help. As I said, I can get the whole set at once for anyone who wants it. But that's what I pay, so that what I ask for it. And that's still cheaper then what EBAY will sell them for after, lol. I WISH it was less, but it's not.
Yes Timepeice, they sell the McD toys without the meals, just ask them. :-)
I'm happy they are doing ponies again at all, so many of the preschoolers I work with love them it will be great to get them pony toys for less then $5+ per. There is something about McD toys that kids love more then other toys.

Did they just need a filler or something? Because I think I would be releasing some ponies with tacky little wedding accessories since the big thing this year is the wedding, or at least some spring accessories.

Did they just need a filler or something? Because I think I would be releasing some ponies with tacky little wedding accessories since the big thing this year is the wedding, or at least some spring accessories.

Actually, McD has been having MLPs as their March toy for several years on and off now. I'm so glad they have continued with it!
2005: 8 early G3 MLPs with brushable manes
2007: 8 Ponyville type ponies
2009: 8 of the Core 7 G3s (w/ MINTY!) with the henna designs and brushable tails
2010: 6 of the core 7 G3.5 style ponies with brushable tails
2011: 8 FIM ponies with brushable tails

I thought that too, but then I remembered Lily Blossom and Cheerilee were the first two Playful Ponies besides the Mane 6 to be released (they were in Wave 2, I think).

I keep hearing March and only March... so I'd assume it's March! :P Only two weeks away at this point... my younger sister works at a McD's so I have relatively easy access when they do arrive.

As an aside this March is going to be an exciting one for me.. March third is my 25th birthday- Two twilight sparkle related items I ordered are gonna arrive first week of march, my custom is scheduled to be done around march third, Mc donalds is releasing their ponies around that time, and a rave falling right on my birthday. I think the first week of march is going to whizz by with ponies and alcohol... :) Win.

Actually, you don't have to buy the Happy Meal or any food to get the toys. You can buy them alone and they cost around $2 each, or you can order a food item or even something like a shake and they'll sell them for $1 each.

The clip loops on top of their heads are a bit disappointing, I must admit. I will still be getting my fav characters since I pretty much missed the entire set last time around (got my #1 gal Pinkie Pie though so it wasn't all bad news).

does mc donald's let people buy/have the display ones when the toys are going to end, or do they have to send them back like most stores claim they do. (i asked at walmart once for a bunny display from easter, it was a sign hanging up, and they said they have to send it back so i couldn't have it, but another lady said they always throw them away)

I HATE those clips, reminds me of how I sanded off the rings of some old first wave BK Pokemon toys back in 1999 so they could be normal figures. Guess I'll be doing that again!

I still really want Lily Blossom and wouldn't mind a couple others but..I really don't care to have them all. I like figures way more than keychains.

does mc donald's let people buy/have the display ones when the toys are going to end, or do they have to send them back like most stores claim they do. (i asked at walmart once for a bunny display from easter, it was a sign hanging up, and they said they have to send it back so i couldn't have it, but another lady said they always throw them away)
I don't know if the same is true for McD's but when I worked at BK way back when they let the workers have first dibs on the display.

I was so disappointed when I saw those ugly chunks of plastic on their heads. It looks like they all have tumors or something. I think what makes it worse is they clearly photoshopped them out of the picture on their site. I hope someone figures out an easy way to remove them and posts a tutorial on how they did it.

Even if they do, it's still on their hair area, so would still need to be painted over. Those stupid things really ruined them for me, I'm afraid. I might still get one, but the excitement is totally gone.

Gonna have to agree that those loop-things sticking out of their heads are hideous! What a terrible design move x_x

I know the molds are new, but I'm a bit disappointed that these look nearly identical to the last McD's FIM promotion. Oh well, I'll likely still be collecting them like I do every year. :)
My boyfriend was sweet enough to get me the entire set last time and I didn't have to touch a bite of their food or order a Happy Meal. Some of the restaurants didn't even charge him for them if he was buying something else, or would throw him a handful and only ring up one. We only ran into one store that wouldn't sell us any outside the HM.
I can see how some people would find the loops jarring, they don't bother me all that much personally. I feel it helps differentiates them a little from the last set and I love key rings.

Well, my mom has a bottle of probably every color of acrylic paint in existence, so I'm sure I can find a color match to cover it up. It won't look perfect, but I guess it would look better than those giant tumors in their heads. I know I wouldn't really trust them as keyrings or even to clip on a backpack because those loops just don't look very sturdy or like they'd hook very securely to the pony.
I wonder what day these are supposed to start. I keep seeing March 8th or 9th, and around here new Happy Meal promotions tend to start on Fridays, so I'm guessing the 9th is probably right. I'll be picking up extras to trade, I just haven't decided how many yet. I'll probably get three complete sets, one to keep and two to trade.

Yeah, the loops don't actually appear to be rings/hoops--more like a little indentation to slip the circular "keyring" onto.
Are there any higher res photos of the toys floating around yet or only that grainy/blurry McDonalds display one?

I don't know that the clips bother me that much. Plus I sort of like the idea of AJ hanging out on my keychain. I guess I need 2. One for display and one for use. :biggrin:
