Pony Corral / Mystery paper in Gusty
« on: May 30, 2017, 05:51:24 AM »
Hi everyone!

In my very first pony purchase on eBay I received a very yellowed Gusty. Her symbols are faded and she is generally in a sad condition, though she doesn't look too bad in this photo...

However, when I took her head off to clean her as well as possible I found THIS:

Does anyone have an idea as to what this is and why it was inside my Gusty? Have any one of you come across anything similar (or equally strange?) inside one of your ponies?

Truly and Cupcake where indeed sold in South Africa:)

They were also sold is Australia too :)

Yep, they were. Although they're generally associated with Scandinavia these days, the first information and proof about them came from a lady called Joss who lived in South Africa. As far as I remember from her information, the card was the same as the one that's featured on my page, although that was donated by kind people in Europe. They're UK style cards but we never had the ponies, so the thought is they got exported instead - to Scandinavia and South Africa etc.

Congrats on your ponies ;D The one in the photo looks really pretty and like genuine "Pony Friend" Truly to me.

I also have a Truly that is not furry but has dark eyeliner. She shows no sign of having been deflocked, but I have kept her and not tried to sell her on because I can't guarantee whether she is or isn't genuine. I have compared her to my authenticated one and there are differences, but she also came from Europe, a place where SS ponies were not sold :/

It's a problem, even when we have the finite details to be able to tell these things - as the field of evidence is really so small (in terms of existing MIP items and so on).  It is possible some black eyeliner ones snuck through, as most of the equivalent ponies here with no flocking have black eyeliner whereas some on the continent have brown (Shady and company)...but because I can't prove her origin either way, she stays here with me :/

Hi Taffeta,

Thank you, I really appreciate the information! Learning about the different ponies is fascinating. :)  What is your website?

I have her, but I didn't go out of my way to buy her: she came as part of a large lot of ponies in my first eBay purchase. I do love her colouring though, and would love to get her 'Sunstone' variant one day.

Sunstone Variant? :what:

Italian Sunbeam, but with Moonstone's hair. So apparently known as 'Sunstone'. I am new to the Arena, so I don't know who thought it up, but I have wanted her since I saw one on eBay  :)

I am not sure I could tell with a pony that close... Dang!

Hi Jinxxy,

I think if you have the ponies side by side it is ok: I could see the difference immediately once I knew what to look for (thank you pinkkittywinks and LadyMoondancer!). But I am not sure if I would be able to tell from a website photo. Here is a photo that shows their eyes, but it doesn't come out as clearly as I would like.

I'm not sure why the symbols are different on each side? They don't look painted or touched up, from the pictures the symbols look original :)

I found these threads for you describing the difference that can be seen between a defrocked so soft and a genuine pony friends set pony ^.^

Thanks so much Pinkkittywinks! Those links were really helpful: I hadn't even considered comparing them to SS Truly  There is a definite difference in eye colour - hooray! I did take a photo, however Photobucket does not seem to want to cooperate tonight and is still busy 'uploading' it half an hour after I first started. Will send it on later if I can.

I can also say that it is probably safe to assume that NSS Truly must have been released in South Africa - both my girls were bought locally.

Hi, welcome to the Arena!! I'm so sorry to hear you lost your ponies.. I'm sure that talking with people that love ponies and buying new ones will soften the pain! ^.^

Thank you! - yes, I agree that chatting to nice people and buying lots of ponies will help. Lots and lots and lots of ponies... oh yes! Just love the Nirvana Gallery, wow so many stunning ponies out there! Though first I plan on working on replacing my lost ponies.  :)

Thank you so much for your advice! I really appreciate it!

I have had a really good look at my girls: cannot see any flocking anywhere and their eyes look a dark greyish brown to me - eyeliner and pupils seem to be the same colour. However I will look again in daylight to be sure as artificial light can do some strange things. Would be so awesome if they are genuine.

Here are the images of Truly with differently coloured symbols. I took them at night, so they haven't come out too well. The hearts on her right side are a lilac purple colour. Would the bird (dove?) also be faded if the hearts were?

This is one of the reasons I joined The Arena: so that I would be able to ask all you more experienced Pony People questions like this one:

How can you tell if NSS Truly is actually NSS Truly and not a deflocked version? I have two you see, both offered as genuine, however they are different from each other. The one lady has cutie marks with pink hearts on both sides, while the other has pink hearts on one side and a more purple colour on the other. I will try to upload photo's: is there a way other than using photo bucket?

Please help me... I have done my best to research on the web but with no luck so far. Even the photo on the Nirvana gallery here shows only one side of Truly.

1. How long have you been collecting ponies?
2 Years now (not counting the ponies I had as a child, for reasons which are explained below)

2. How did you start collecting ponies?
After unpacking the boxes which were supposed to contain my childhood collection, but in fact contained only three of my ponies I found I needed to fill the hole...

3. How long have you been part of the MLP Internet community (not necessarily just the Arena)?
About a year

4. Who was your first pony?
Bubbles and Bowtie as a child, I remember getting them together, and Posey as an adult collector. I still have Bowtie, but not Bubbles.

5. Who was your last pony (i.e., most recently purchased/acquired)?
Night Glider - not yet with me as the seller is away on holiday until the beginning of next month.

6. What is your favorite generation?
G1 definitely and absolutely. Though there are some very lovely G3 ponies as well

7. About how many ponies do you have in your collection?
About 50

8. Who's your grail pony, or alternatively, the pony you want most at the moment?
Any and all SA ponies. HAHAHA! I am so funny! I will never find one of them  ^.^. Otherwise Night Glider was my more obtainable grail, there is just something about her. Now that I (almost) have her I will need to rethink. Perhaps German Nightlight with the small symbol

9. Who's your favorite pony and why? (choose only one! hard, I know)
One? I have to choose ONE?! They are ALL my favourites, I love every pony in my collection

I really miss my Bubbles, as I have not as yet managed to replace her or baby Blossom. But who I miss the most is the SA Windy that I had. She was not my favourite then (no sparkly cutie) but my heart is bleeding NOW...

Truly is definitely one of my favourites, but I will ask my questions about her on the appropriate thread. Also Night Glider (naturally) and Hopscotch and Powder and... Picking a favourite is HARD.

I am really looking forward to learning more

I live in South Africa and grew up playing with My Little Ponies. They were my absolute favourite toy and I had rather a lot of them (of course, is there another way?) though I also played a lot with my Barbie horses Prancer and Dancer.

Well, fast forward a fair while till my husband and I moved into a house with our two boys. Finally I would be able to unpack my boxes of My Little Ponies, which had moved with us many times and been stored in garages and roofs, and put them on display. I am sure you can all imagine my horror when I found that the boxes included Prancer, Dancer, Seashell, Bowtie, Surfdancer and a whole load of random 'other' toys. Most of my precious ponies had vanished, I suppose I will never know what happened to them.

So I started collecting ponies again to heal the 'scar' and have learnt about a lot of ponies that I never knew about and also managed to obtain some big brother ponies which my soul craved when I was smaller, but I never managed to get. It is tricky though as we do not seem to have many ponies in South Africa, and they are often in quite sad condition.

I have joined this forum in order to learn more about ponies particularly Nirvanas which interest me greatly, and to have some burning questions answered about NSS Truly who is one of my favourite ponies.

Thank you for taking the time to read this!
