I've had great success straightening clear tinsel but I seem to be the only one.   I just use a lower temp on my straightening iron than I do for colored tinsel.

I do use the clothes iron method but I also have had no problem straightening it this way or occasionally with hair straighteners.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

I read this post a few weeks ago and tucked away the information.

I've never used a flat iron on tinsel.  The last time I used a flat iron on pony hair was on Brillo-pad frizz on a couple of wingers.  That was over ten years ago.  It took a lot of time and tons of conditioner.

Twinkler joined the herd yesterday.  Her tinsel wasn't too bad.  It was crinkled from mid-length to the ends in the mane and tail.

The most important advice I can give is: know your flat iron!!!!!  Mine runs really hot.  Even on the lowest setting, it will melt pony hair.

I started with the tail.  I did not close the iron like I would on my own hair.  I quickly closed and opened the iron as I moved down the length.  Basically,a tapping motion.

I also made sure the iron didn't get too hot.  I used some wispy strands of the hair to test the iron before I started a new pass.  Glad I did...because the iron did melt the hair at one point.

I let the iron cool down until it was warm and straightened out the mane.

I'm happy with the outcome and will use this method again...as long as I'm in the frame of mind to be extremely careful so I don't melt the hair.
