Dingy so softs
« on: June 26, 2012, 04:12:46 PM »
Hi!  I'm getting lost in all the cleaning tutorials... can the experts help me out again, please?

While I'm waiting for my Pretty Parlour to fade from its noxsious greeny blue to a more palatable shade, I decided to take a stab at cleaning some of my gnarlier ponies (gnarly... can you say stuck in the eighties? :P).  Anyway, I took a closer look at my Scrumptious, who has some unfortunate chartreuse hair smear from being snuggled up next to Surprise in storage... turns out that in proper light, she looks a bit, well, skanky.  Kind of yellowy, kind of dingy, but just all 'round skanky.  So I took a very gentle toothbrush and some bicarb to her, and gave her a pretty good scrubdown, and conditioned her hair while I was at it.  I got rid of her factory curl, I'm afraid (s'okay, her hair looks more fabulous than mine own ever does!), but her coat looks still pretty skank.

My question is this:

Should I try a bleach bath?  What dilution has worked best for you?  Would I be safe to sunfade her?  Or do you ladies and gents think she'd be better off deflocked?

Oxiclean or whitening toothpaste works well on So Softs.  But if the glue itself is what has yellowed, I'm afraid there's no real remedy for that unless you deflock her.  =/

A soak in oxiclean with cold water should help out.

Just be very careful with her flocking whilst your rinsing the oxi off her. Gentle rubbing will be enough to get the gubbiness off.

Dont use bleach as it could remove the flocking and personally I have found that oxy too can remove the so soft fur...even a scrub with boiling water can remove so soft coating. They are surprisingly delicate when they want to be and awkwardly stubborn when you are trying to completely deflock :P

Toothpaste, toothbrush, warm water and a scrub is the best way to get them clean.

However as Cloud Weaver says, the yellowing you can see is probably a discolouration in the glue which there is no cure for - although no harm in seeing if a surface clean makes a bit of a difference! Good luck!!

Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
Loa is my love god!
