Pony Room - Curtain type?
« on: September 25, 2017, 09:10:39 PM »
I've just moved and have the opportunity to have my own pony room. I want to make sure my ponies are safe, especially from sunfading (because of my Posey army) so I was hoping for opinions on whether I should use heavy curtains, or thinner curtains. I have a photo of my two choices currently available to swap between. I like the thinner curtains but if you think they let in enough light to fade pink hair I won't risk it.

Ideas? ^.^

I'll also have reusable dehumidifiers scattered about, it gets hot/humid here!

Heavy curtains all the way!!!
My pony room has thick sun-blocking curtains to protect my precious ponies <3 The room is dark as the night :D
And dehumidifiers are a really good thing to have :)

I also agree with the heavy curtains.   They should help with the heat issue too.  Heat, humidity and sunlight .... all three not pony-friendly.   Anything you can do help preserve your collection is worth it ;)

I agree - go for the heavier curtains. It won't matter that it is dark when you are not in there anyway  :)

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm almost tempted to just put shelves in front of the windows, maximise display space lol.

Darker curtains all the way. My bedroom has several of my LE pieces (Disney LE dolls and Transformers) so I don't want sunlight.

Blackout curtains all the way!  I'm terribly paranoid about sun damage and that's what I have in my room.

Can anyone recommend anything else to protect my ponies?
I'll be putting reusable dehumidifiers around the shelves, but I still worry because it's only spring and already reaching 35°C in the house. Perhaps I should invest in something to keep the room a steadier temp/humidity level?... but then our power bill would probably skyrocket.

For an even darker room you could put a box valance or thick fabric over the top of the curtain rod so even less light will leak into your room from behind the curtains. I've been considering doing this myself since my ponies are displayed in my bedroom which has a huge window on the largest wall. I've got blackout panels as well and they only help so much

Edit: I also forgot to mention putting up blinds, that will also help as well! There are so many kinds of blinds that you have the pick of the litter, not just the standard light-filtering ones. I'm pretty sure they make darkening blinds as well.
