new G1 Moondancer in original packaging

I'm so happy I found this figure. Had to spend a bit more to get her, but it was worth it! It's kinda funny when you see the original price on the packaging: $4.99 back in the 80s. Let me tell you I paid much more than that!  She comes with everything: original brush, ribbon and sticker.
MY QUESTION TO YOU: should I open the card/packaging? I sooo want to! But I'd like to have your take on this. I don't plan on selling her, so I would love to just hold her in my hand, but at the same time leaving her in the packaging has a certain vintage collector's quality to it.

Seeing the original card/packaging with the some of the original ponies on the back (Sunbeam, Blossom, Seashell, Applejack and company) brings back so many memories!!

Congrats! I would personally leave her on the card, even though the bubble has yellowed a bit, she is still quite visible.

Congrats on getting a MOC pony! As far as removing her from the card, it is ultimately your own decision, but as you have gone to the trouble of finding her still in packaging and payed a higher price for her would it be sensible to open her and have that be for nothing? It wouln't be difficult to find a nice Moondancer to enjoy loose alongside your lovely MOC girl.

Or if you feel guilty... find someone with the same quality loose, with all the parts, a back card, and trade. That is what I would try to do... or just decard and hide.

I am always someone that wants to open a toy and have it in my hand.  On this case, I'd have to say leave her in the package.  This toy is so old, and it's amazing to see her in the pack.  There are lots of Moondancers out of package floating around.  I'd keep this one as it is.  Please.

I always love seeing original G1s MOC!  You have a rare gem there.  Why not buy one that is already open if you want to 'play' with her - then you will have 2 nice ponies!

Moondancer is one of those ponies that is very common to find out of the package. If you look for her you can probably score her on Ebay for 5 bucks.
IN the package however, she's worth quite a bit more! I don't collect MOC ponies.. I always want them free!

If I was in your position however I'd sell the MOC one and buy (for much less than you sell the MOC for!) a loose Moondancer.

Wow, it's like I'm 2 and it's Christmas morning all over again.  I would definitely leave her on the card. She's quite plentiful loose, and many are still in good condition I'm sure. Anyhow, thank you for the nostalgia bomb, and congrats!

I can understand your desire to open her and feel like you're a child gain at Christmas, being the first to hold and love her as more than just a collectable. There must be a reason you bought her MOC...was it to feel that "just opened" lovely feeling again, or to hang on your wall? Personally, I like the idea of being the first to brush her hair!!

You could also open it in such a way that when you were done paying with her you could tuck her back into her card and bubble home and have the best of both worlds

Im a MOC/MIB collector and personally, i would leave her in her original package. I would get another moondancer loose, its not like the old ponies are being produced still, finding them in their original package is hard to come by!

Just saying that she is very easy to come by lose and in great shape, so it will be easy to find a loose one and sell the MOC one to a MOC collector.

Wow, congrats! You can just pretend she's the Yellow Moondancer Nirvana I'm not sure if I would open her, probably not since she's a G1 I have a MOC G1 clock and the packaging is yellowed, but I just can't seem to open it! I love the MOC look

I would also leave her on the card. MOC G1 ponies are rare and very special. Of course it is your decision since she belongs to you, though. That's just what I would do.
