Restoration help with lot! Including a Nirvana!

My most recent lot from eBay came in. I could tell in the photos that they were dirty, but didn't realize it was this bad.

These girls have suffered from years of cigarette smoke exposure and are now severely stained. Poor Streaky is tan! Even their hair is stained and discolored. The star of the lot, Brazil Sugarberry, is the cleanest out of all of them. I was told that an oxyclean soak might help them. Has anyone restored ponies similar to this? How did you do it? I want to avoid sunfading if I can and I want to make sure it's safe to soak Sugarberry. I don't want to harm her symbols or anything. Oh great restoration gurus of the arena, please share your wisdom!

It's been a while since I've restored any ponies, but I remember Oxyclean making a G1's hair really dry.  Oxyclean will certainly help without harming the symbols!

I agree oxyclean is great but is SO harsh on the hair! I have to condition it 4-5 times to get it normal again after having it in oxyclean

She's very badly discolored. I thought it was just dirt until she came in the mail. I've determined it's from long term smoke exposure. There's actually spots on her neck where she's still lavender under some factory glue spill.

She carries the Chocolate Streak off well though.

I'd dye or peroxide sunfade streaky and make her a super cool alt!

Oxyclean is mean to pony hair, but you can always super-condition them later. I think fabric softener is also supposed to be super incredible for dry hair too, but don't quote me on that one.  I hope you can get them all cleaned up.

I will definitely be soaking Streaky and Ruby Lips in warm water and oxyclean here shortly. Here's a quick comparison of my Ruby Lips (bottom one) and the eBay Ruby Lips (top one).

I think I will put Sugarberry in a bag with some baking soda to deodorize her and just leave her the way she is. She's such a pretty girl and I'd hate to make a mistake and devalue her.

DON'T DO IT! I recall oxyclean completely destroying tinsel, since it reacts with the metals in it... D8

Haven't dunked them just yet. Thank you for the info! I might see if I can get Ruby's head off and put her body in first. If that fixes the staining, maybe I can figure out how to dip her head in without putting her hair in.
