New Ebay policy…? Must have automated payments to ebay set up???

I'm very very frustrated at the moment.  I was trying to list some auctions on ebay (not pony related) and suddenly I get flagged with the following:

You can not submit your listing due to the following problems
We appreciate your business on eBay!

We show that you do not have an Automatic Payment Method (credit card, debit card or PayPal account) on file with us to pay your eBay seller fees. We will need you to provide this information today in order to continue listing your items on eBay. Until this is completed you will not be able to list or revise any additional items on eBay.

As of when do they require access to my accounts before I list my auctions?!  I'm quite honestly outraged at this…  I have always paid my seller fees well before I receive my invoice from ebay, and have never had an outstanding balance due to ebay.   In the past I always to a "one time payment" to ebay using my paypal.

I have no desire to give ebay full access to my paypal or debit card (we don't have credit cards).  I want to be the one controlling who gets money from my accounts when…  The last thing I want is them taking money out of my account without my knowledge and making me overdraft my account.

Has anyone else run into this problem?  I listed an auction last week and had no requirements like this.  Advice please?

From what i remember, you need to provide a card but you can choose to have it withdrawn from your paypal. Thats currently what i'm doing with mine. I think its for backup in case you dont have the funds in your paypal, its to ensure they get their money.

Actually it's not a new policy. I believe it has been in effect since 2010. Now whether or not they have fully enforced it since then, only eBay knows the answer. I have always had it set up that way so I am not sure.

I've always had my paypal account linked to my ebay, but I do not like the idea of giving them full access to withdraw funds.  *sigh*

When I started selling on eBay in the '90s, you had to have a credit card in file for sellers few payments because Paypal wasn't a thing back then, lol. I wasn't aware that there was ever a time that you didn't need a credit card listed as a backup to Paypal.

Yeah, they have it set up so they can automatically take payment now. I don't really like it either, but theres not much to do.

I'm not keen on it either TBH but mines always been set up that way too   Its a pain but there's not much you can do about it
