You're not just whistling Dixie!
« on: October 22, 2013, 12:50:35 PM »
I've always looked in admiration to those who can do those sharp, loud whistles that you can hear from across the street. I do not know if such a talent could be learned or if it requires just the right tongue/teeth/mouth anatomy.

However, I did finally manage to whistle a tune some years ago. I just practiced and practiced until I figured out how to make (roughly) the notes I wanted. I can't really do it for more than a minute or two without my lips getting quite tired, though.

(Then there are those folks who can actually do melodic, genuine-sounding bird song whistles. WOW! :faint: )

How's about you?

EDIT: and yes, I can whistle Dixie. Kind of a fun tune actually.

I never used to be able to whistle at all but about 6 years ago I got my first cockatiel and he loved it when people whistled. He used to get so excited! I wanted to be able to make him happy and excited like other people could so I practiced heaps and now I'm pretty good, if I say so myself!

I definitely don't think I whistle In tune , but I am aware my whistle is ridiculously loud and it's embarrassing ! , I always whistle at my dogs when I let them go in the fields and people always look at me ... And other people's dogs often come running lol

I actually remember the first time I whistled. I was coming up the basement stairs in my childhood house and suddenly sucked in some air and whistled and totally statled myself! Now I can whistle in or out (but not do that loud between-the-fingers whistle) but since I was diagnosed with asthma, it's gotten weaker and quieter.

So, I can whistle a little, but sometimes it's pretty wimpy.

I can only whistle one single, pathetic note. But I can "pop" my tongue really loudly, almost like a gunshot! It's like clicking my tongue, only much stronger and louder.

Nirvana grails:  Reverse Gusty (upgrade), Peru Windy and Moonstone (upgrade), Brazil TAF upgrades, Argie Powder w/ white hair (upgrade), French Windy and Moondancer (upgrades), Spain TAF's, TE's, and piggies.  These are my biggest wants, but I'm looking for tons more nirvanas, especially Greeks, Brazilians, and Peruvians.  Feel free to PM me for sales or trades.  But please note that I'm also fairly picky.

I can whistle. Very weak, sorta like more air. I have been learning how to do sharp ones and long ones but not loud.

I can normal whistle a bit, but no tunes. I can whistle with any two fingers tho. And finger and thumb. My daughter on the other hand, is quite good at tunes considering she only learnt to whistle a few months ago. And she's only 5!!

when I was a child I couldn't whistle, only wished I could. my parents always told me I have to eat lots of carrots cooked in soup to do that (it's a common legend around here), which I hated - I still do. raw carrots are fine, so is carrot in mixed dishes, but I still don't like them in a see-through soup.
now I can whistle. I was in late primary school when I somehow found the right technique (without eating the carrots in the soup :P ). back then I used to be better in whistling, in the past few years, for some reason I don't understand, my whistling has become weaker. but I can still whistle tunes.

I was never able to do that loud, between fingers-thing either. I wish I could, it always sounded like fun ^.^
