HUH. My first thought was maybe the same machine was used for MGR Sparkler and some of her paint "stuck", but Sparkler would have pink paint there, not indigo . . . Unless pink + purple = indigo? Her triads of dots look like they're totally pink. Is there any sign that they were once white? They're supposed to be white.

I question if someone tried some touching up at one point...

Weird! I just checked my Diamond Dreams and she is that lovely dark color all over.
Aw Skeen, she is stunning!! This is a really interesting video from another thread about how G1 ponies were manufactured. It shows how designs are painted on in a toy factory.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cp9yEV7pjmYIn the video, it shows the toy being fitted into a stencil that positions the toy in exactly the right spot, and a specific area of the toy is spray painted a specific colour. There are MANY steps to the painting. Each colour is done separately, and sometimes there are several layers done, like the eyes. Assuming that pony eyes were painted in this same process, they might have gone: white, iris, pupil/outline/eyelashes, white spot. Some of the designs are really delicate, like the glasses on the chipmunk figure. This doesn't solve the mystery of course, but might shed a bit of light on how symbols are originally painted
