First attempts at re-glittering symbols
« on: April 19, 2013, 12:39:54 PM »
I've been meaning to restore the glitter on Moondancer, Twilight and Medley since I won them on eBay YEARS ago but never had the courage until now!

Moondancer's moons, all Twilight's stars and all Medley's music notes needed restoration so I got myself some ultrafine silver, purple and emerald green glitter and a ballpoint glue pen for more accurate tracing of symbols.

The first victim pony was Twilight with a mixture of purple and silver glitter.  Symbols on the display side were still roughly visible, but the non-display were very faint so please excuse the crudeness of the reglittering here :-

Second up was Moondancer using silver glitter and tracing existing symbols.  The moons on both sides are different sizes, wonder if she came out the factory like that?

I was finally getting the hang of this and moved on to Medley using a mixture of emerald and silver.  I took before, during and after shots of her restoration :-

All excess glitter was removed with a fine paint brush, then matte Mod Podge was used to seal the symbols once dry.  All in all, I'm pretty happy with the results but I think the best attempt is Medley.

Thanks for reading folks  :read:  :bigups:

Looking good!

I'd love to try this on my G1 Gusty.  I remember that she came with a symbol smudge and it always bothered me.  But, I have never had the courage to fix her, I am afraid I would make it worse!!

They all look so much prettier with glittery symbols again.  Nice work :)

Thanks for all your kind comments

I think they look so much better with the new glitter too, but was very nervous to try it.  I've had all three ponies over 10 years and it's taken me that long to pluck up the courage

Hmm, I wonder if that is common with Gusty then? I got the NSS European version without glittery symbols when I was a kid.  When I took her out of the bubble, her non display side symbols were smudged too. She also has a different texture of plastic to all my other ponies, quite grainy to the touch  :|  Strange!
