I don't really have an opinion (I think it could work either way), but I just wanted to say that the example customs that were posted are lovely!

These are all so gorgeous!  I was always a big fan of the super brightly-colored tropical G1's, and Flaminca looks like she'd fit right in!

I don't think too many people are interested in these, but the basic articulated Cheerilee, Fluttershy (non action), and Applejack (non action) are available for order on Hasbro Toy Shop!

Arts & Crafts Corral / WIP -- Castle Diorama, Part 2!
« on: June 30, 2016, 10:03:55 AM »
Hey guys!  I've made some good progress on my castle diorama, so I thought it would be fun to share what I'm working on with it at the moment.  Last year I had a thread going for my original work on it, which you can find right here if you're curious to see older bits of work.  Basically, at some point I decided the white and pink color scheme wasn't to my taste, so I am doing a repaint of the whole thing.  That involved dismantling and painting every piece, and I figured, hey, while I've got it dismantled, why not make more work for myself and add new flooring, wallpaper, and finish decorating the rooms?   So, here's how that's coming along!

If you compare the photos, you can see a big chunk of the castle is currently still missing, but what's here is complete -- the library and art gallery are looking lovely!

Here's a better shot of the library -- looks like someone's been reading in here recently...

And the art gallery -- frames and paintings are handmade, mirror from Michael's, some random sculpted doodads and bits and bobs of other interesting stuff.

The library has handmade wood flooring, most of the rest of the castle will have "marble" flooring -- here's an example of the completed section on the bridge.

And here's how the castle looks from the other side!  The textured stone effect is made using Rust-oleum Stone spray in Bleached Stone and Pebble.  The roofing and gold doodads have also been repainted.

You may remember from the old thread that there was a little pond out front, which had come with the castle.  It was looking increasingly plastic-y and out of place with the other updates, so I replaced it with a pond built into the diorama base, along with some critter friends. :)

And that's what I have to share so far!  If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!  I am absolutely happy to help if you're interested about materials or tutorials or whatnot.

Customs / Re: Question about customizing playsets
« on: June 16, 2016, 08:14:53 AM »
Good info! Thank you so much for sharing.  So I'm guessing this would work on the Show Stable too...?

Alipes, that textured spray paint looks amazing! Have you finished that castle oe are you still working on it?

Yep, this should work the same on any hard plastic pieces on playsets.  If you have softer pieces like accessories, I wouldn't recommend spray paint, just because that's not what it's intended for and the results can be unpredictable.

Thanks so much for the kind words!  The castle spraying is still in progress, largely because I am working on a lot of other customizing for it at the same time, like wallpaper (or like the wood floors I just finished in the library, holy moly... ), and because we had several weeks with ridiculous humidity that meant I had to hold off on any work.  Once I get a bit more rebuilt and completed, I do intend to start up a new thread, but that will be a bit still.
