How to go from troll hair/mohawk to not in some number of steps.

So when we buy the totally awesome Shining Armor (it's so hard not to spell it Armour) and Princess Cadence set from Target, Shining Armor comes out looking like this.

This is terrible. This will not do. I will not stand for such things. I set about fixing it, storming in my brains. The first plan was to give it a rinse and a wash with some conditioner, then pin it down with some paper towels and rubber bands like so.

That didn't work. Then I added some pomade to his hair and pinned it down again hoping that would make it less trolly. This worked worse.

This is terrible. This will not do. I had to fix it.

The actual plan; I decided to use my idea with rubber bands and paper towels to hold it down, but instead of just rinsing it, I was going to pour boiling water over his hair, and this worked! Lookit! He's so suave!

Okay, so, I'm sure that if you have a Shining Armor with troll hair, you'll want to do this. Here is how;

STEP THE FIRST; Give his hair a wash with some conditioner, while it's wet take a rat tail comb and split the front part of his down the middle. I didn't get a picture of this because I'm a bad person, sorry, but it's pretty self explanatory.

This step might not be necessary, but I did it protect his eye decals from having boiling water directly poured on them. I folded a piece of foil in a paper towel and wrapped it around his head, and kept his hair on top of it.

After this I poured some boiling water on his head, removed the paper towel/foil thing ASAP, then pinned down what will be his bangs with some paper towels and rubber bands, like so;

Let it dry, take it off, do some brushin', and bam, no more troll hair!

The rear part of the bangs on his left side got a bit wonky, but I imagine that's 'cause I didn't pin it down well enough when I had it wrapped up.

Here's the happy couple;

If you have any questions about the process or if I didn't explain something too well, let me know and I'll elaborate.

Also I'm on a new monitor that I haven't yet calibrated, so if the pictures are dark or bright or oversaturated, my bad.

I thought when people were saying troll hair, they referencing smaller version of Shining Armor because it was like troll doll (toy) hair??

Thats great, awesome job!

He looks better but I don't think the larger styling size shinning armor has troll hair does he? I haven't opened mine but I thought he had normal pony hair that's cut/shaped in the style of a mowhawk. I thought the troll hair was what was on the smaller shinning armor that comes with the castle playset?

Probably doesn't own a stolen piece of the Taj Mahal.

Thanks for sharing your technique!  He looks so much better once you style his hair to lay flatter, doesn't he? I especially like how you got the front of his hair to part around his horn.

I did something similar with my Shining Armor as well.

I thought it was called troll hair 'cause it sticks straight up?

I can see how you came to that conclusion (and I always find it interesting to see how people think), but troll hair refers to the type of hair used, not the way it's styled. Only the smaller Shining Armor has troll hair. The fashion style is just a mohawk.

I actually think the mohawk is cute, myself, but I'm sure others will find this helpful.
