Hmmm, wellllll.  Huh.  I hadn't thought of that.  *shrug*  I guess I just don't know enough about what pony insides look like, both factory-original and rehaired.  Like I said, I've never rehaired or customized, and I hardly ever pop heads off.  Maybe I jumped to conclusions.  But I've been examining her more closely and taking some more pics.  I'll post them in a minute, along with my thoughts.

Okaaaay, based on some of the latest comments, I've been looking more closely at my possible Gusty variant.  I managed to get some decent pics of the red hairs mixed in with her tangled plugs (my camera didn't want to focus on something that close).
 
Aaaaand, I noticed something:  She does have factory weave.  At least, I think that's what it is.  The green plugs at the top of her mane (near her ears and horn) are neatly woven.  I think I see some little globs of glue interspesed in them.  Is that normal for factory weave?  Anyway, the tangle starts at about the area where her purple streak does, and it continues to be tangled all the way down the rest of her mane, even after her streak.  There's glue on some parts of that too, both the tangled green plugs and the purple ones; I can feel it on the ones closer to the hole.
 
So what does that mean?

EDIT:  Hmmm, I was just moving some of the tangle out of the way with a tiny screwdriver so I could try to see around it.  Ya know what?  The green plugs are actually trying to be neat.  Most of them aren't that tangled, even down the length of her neck.  But it gets in a fairly big tangle at the bottom (right in front of me), and there's a big glob of glue in it, and then it loops back around to the purple tangle.

It does look like a partial Rehair job.
I had an Italian white lemon drop that was a rehair with original pony hair.
She was all messy inside and glue was used to hold the hair inside.

really? I've been cleaning most of my collection after a move and a bunch of mine look like that..... and these are ponies i have had since i was a kid.

That's what I'm thinking.  When I restore a pony (or customize one that doesn't need her head removed) I trim the hairs as close to the scalp as I can, then push the remaining hair nubs back into the head, and then rehair as normal.  That way, the original hair is still present in the head only and it does mix with the new color.

Aw, darn.  That's actually weird.  The links weren't broken right away.  I checked after I moved the images to a new album, and the links still worked.  I'll have to fix this later.  Sorry!

hmmmm...  i wanna say she's real but i'm leaning towards rehair  

i've decapitated a hiddeously high number of ponies to fix tail rust and i cant say i've seen it with factory weave on the majority of the mane hair complete with 'messy' hair plugs on the stripe part, and i'm talking nirvana & regular hair here
