Princess Serena slight variant

OK, so about a week ago I mentioned that I had a weird bubblegum pink haired version of Princess Serena with a slight variation.  The little jewels around the edge of her symbol are green on her DS and purple on her NDS.  I promised PKW that I'd get around to posting pics.  I'm done with finals now, so here they are!

I got her a few months ago from an Ebay seller in Norway.

she is BEAUTIFUL!

i see what you mean about her symbols, they use a pearly coating over the plastic to give them a shimmer effect, it could be they used a different batch of paint so she got a different colour on one side and another colour on the other.

what are her hoof markings?

Nothing unusual; exactly the same as my regular American Serena:

there were two sets of hoof marks in europe for the first set princess ponies  with pat pend and with out they got released twice and of course in germany they got the alternate coloured hair.

pat pend bubble gum pink aquamarine does show up in europe and the UK but she isn't really that common, you mostly see fading pink or if you do find the bubble gum version she is with out the pat pend.

it is a tiny detail, but still neat and it does make her a variant.

I love it green on one side and purple on the other...very cool...Princess Serena is my favourite Princess....

Do you know I dont think I would even have noticed the difference! Thats terrible!!!

@PWK - do all alternate German princesses have no pad pend?

Cool!  Well, she's my first real princess variant then!  (I've also got a gorgeous NM German Royal Blue, but I'd call her a version and not a variant.)

Alright...please forgive my ignorance, what color are the gems normally? 

My goodness, no wonder I never got into the princess variants!  There are so many!  TE ponies keep me busy as it is. 


Side note, the non-pat pending also applies to TE ponies, those ponies have 'clearer, greyish' eyes.  ^-^

@cloud_weaver...can I ask which of the TEs came with non pad pends? the ones on the gorgeous German cards [the cards similar to the Regenbogen Set]?

cat ~ yes all the german princesses are missing the pat pend, both the alternate hair release and the normal hair release. with the princess aqua variants they are not very much different from her normal release so it is so easy for them to slip under the radar.

kelly ~ if she is lacking the pat pend she is a variant, there are very small differences between the pat pend release with normal hair and the non pat pend with normal hair, such as symbol colour, tinsel thickness etc.

you have a very pretty serena variant with bubblegum pink hair there! the german version of her has no pat pend and the euro version, which was available in uk, france etc. has the pat pend.


the small jewels colour is influenced by the coating on them and by the body colour of the pony. that is because they are originally translucent. the coating makes them shimmer and the body colour gives it's extra bit. when the coating is rubbed off, they can seem to be a completely different colour! i also had a princess once with massive dirt inside the body and the jewels were very dark. also possible is that the jewels, which are made of plastik, yellowed. that happens quite often. that could also cause them to look different.


so it can be, that the coating was different, like pkw said, or it is one of the options that i described.

I'm not sure where they were released, but I would assume it would be the ones on the German cards.    I'm not sure exactly which TE ponies have been found with the "non pat pend" version - I own a Sweet Stuff, and I know of another collector who owns Fizzy.  I *think* the German Speedy doesn't have a "Pat Pend" so I typically lean towards them being a German release.  I'm sure there are others out there, I would typically assume there's a Gingerbread, Masquerade, and Whizzer out there but you know what they say about "assuming"...    They are normally found in the European ebays and if you find them in the right light, their eyes appear either clear or greyish.  I'm working on getting some updated photos of my collection - but most of the photos of the variants that have come and gone through my hands have been lost.  I do have some good photos of Sweet Stuff vs. Sweet Stuff...
