Names that don't (seem to) match symbols

The thread about not "seeing" symbols sent my brain in this direction, but I think it would derail the other too much so it needs its own thread.
Do you ever scratch your head wondering how they came up with a symbol and then named the pony something that seems totally not in synch, *or*, in the opposite direction, why they *didn't* name it something in particular?
It's a mystery (to me, anyway), why a green pony with shamrocks isn't called something shamrocky or St Paddy's Day-ish. Lotsa Luck or Lucky or... you know, even "Clover" (since those names came later anyway, she could have claimed them, right?). I get the "Minty" part (the green...) and actually like it a lot, but... well (as far as my brain goes) the G3's fixed that problem by giving her *mint candies* for a symbol  , but I often wonder what the idea room sounded like when they were brainstorming a name for the green pony with shamrocks....
 
Oh, EDIT: and since then, I miss having a green pony with shamrocks... whatever her name might be...

I think the US names for the princess ponies do not match at all, i prefer the UK princess names, they fit so much better! "Princess Diamond" over "Princess Tiffany", all those princess ponies have gem stones, so why not name them after the color they are representing?

Yeah, the first six were definitely named for their colors, not their symbols. Butterscotch came to mind straight away for this topic.


Another one, for me, is Sprinkles.

In my mind, I refer to the Rockin' Beats ponies as synesthesia ponies, because a lot of people with sound-related synesthesia tend to see shapes that correspond to different sounds. (I have synesthesia, but a word-color or word-taste kind, nothing sound-related. You can read up about it here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synesthesia)

I was confused about Sweet Lily. The other Perfume Puffs have perfume symbols which makes sense with the name of the line, but Sweet Lily is a... pillow.

And while Firefly makes sense, how cool would it have been if her name was Lightening or Thunderbolt?

Names like Snuzzle I can just see being a horses name.

Sundance- pink hearts and dots?
BnG Bouquet- a hat?
Baby Mischeif- a kite?
Tootie Tails- I won't even use this name. The whole word "tootie" just makes me want to throw up. I call her Pineapple.

I think a lot of the newborn twins are just given stupid pet names.
