How do they do that with the hair?
« on: March 12, 2012, 07:43:42 PM »
Sorry if this has been posted before, but I was looking at ebay and alot of ponies have this perfectly, shiny, wrapped around the neck manes and the tails are perfect too. I was thinking of posting some auctions,  but I don't know how to make them so picture perfect.
Any tips?

I use shampoo, conditioner, and if frizzy, I use a flat iron.

 Works great!

This!!!

If you just want a soft curl or wave, wrap the hair around the neck, with paper towel. Or for more curl, you can use hair rollers.

I'd love to see pictures when your done!

I definitely second this! :)
Also what she said is right! Since I deal with a lot of "baity"ponies sometimes I have to trim the tips of their tail if they're beyond repair. I don't mind small trims since I never plan to resell my previously baity girls. Be sure the straightener isn't any higher than around 170 degrees.

Conditioner and a brush works wonders. Pat dry any strong haircolours well. Chartreuse (surprise, shady) is one of those colours that can transfer easily.

Don't forget to really allow things to dry after you wash the hair. If you need these sold soon, wiping the hair down with a damp cloth may be your best bet. I've known a number of people who unknowingly bought freshly washed ponies. Perfect when packed, moldy and dank on the other end. :S and no matter how hard you try, enough water to cause problems will get in.

Alrighty, somewhat on topic - how do you get the hair shiny?  I've not had any luck with really bringing out the shine of the hair.  (Spoosh's ponies come to mind!)

I dont know about other people but I do find that any pony which I have used fabric conditioner on [usually in a hair taming attempt] tend to have gorgeous shiny hair when they have dried...

And if your afraid that you melt the hair with the flatiron you could leave in the conditioner in the hair when using the iron! Works wonders!! I tried last week at some really frizzy frizzzzz hair and the hair is so much better now!

Hm!  Must try that!  I recently developed an allergy to my fabric softener - I blame the pregnancy hormones - so now I've got a full bottle of the stuff.  :)  Thanks!

Great advice so far! This is what I do with pony hair. Works for all generations as far as I know.

I was terrified of using straighteners on a couple of Nirvanas I had (Dutch Diary and Italian Windy).
What I did was wet the hair, put loads of conditioner in (I use cheap conditioner, it doesn't really matter), pat the excess water out of the hair with paper towel and then run the hair through the straighteners. Their hair came out gorgeous! Both their manes and tails were braided and after I'd straightened their hair you never would have guessed.

To stop stray hair (and stray tinsel, to an extent, but that stuff has a mind of its own) I wet the hair and wrap it around the pony's neck and one of the back legs. To secure the hair in place I use strips of PLAIN paper towel (anything with pictures on can sometimes leak colour) and wrap them around the hair. I use small amounts of tape to secure the strips but sometimes they stay put by themselves. I then leave them overnight.
You should end up with a mane that sits nicely and a tail with an attractive curl in it. Stray hairs should be minimised due to the paper towel.

Also, spoosh has an amazing photographic and lighting set up. That helps too.

Leaving conditioner in the hair while using my straightener actually CAUSED to melt some hair on my ponies..
And it just made it frizzier. I don't understand this method. XD
