If you look at the pics I posted of my mugs, the chihuahua cup on the far left is a tumbler :). They're like the plastic travel cups with lids and straws. I love them!!

I think I would try to get the mug first, and then if you have budget left, a tumbler would be a great second item :). (If your partner likes them, that is!)
I agree completely. My focus is a MUG but, since I like travel mugs - if we go for a 2nd mug or something, perhaps we could choose something like that as a 2nd item? :) If that's okay? My favorite coffee cups (I think they are glass hot toddy cups) came from the antique shop. And I'm always drooling over antique china. I love carnival glass, hobnob, milk glass, and the like.

I cant believe i said tea pot xD, but yes a kettle is what I was referring to haha. we DO have them here, more and more iv noticed the last few years, but I think, we as Americans, might have this need to make everything bigger and shinier and heavier then it needs to be ROFL. Hey everyone! i was doing some sketches really quick, and would anyone be interested in a Coffee.. or warm drink adoptable pony? Id only offer these to "mug swap" participants until it was over, then I will probably make them an official adoptable. :)

id probably add some "Mug swap 2013" text to it, and the type of mug/cup and what it looks like would probably be the only customizable part of this adoptable, aside from colors and species of course.

Come to think of it, my favorite mugs are slightly larger, just not oversized bowl like ones. The one I bought my partner is bowl shaped but not bowl sized. I kind of love it.

Yeah i think that was what I was expecting when I came into this, I had only ever looked at licensed mugs before, and most of those literally seem to be, by default $10-$15. But I was shopping in meijer the other day and found some great mugs that were only $3-$4!

Edit: also, for anyone planning on painting a mug- Michaels usually has Americana brand gloss enamel paint, which is fairly cheap (i think it was <$3.00 per bottle, which isnt terrible for specialty paint). You paint it on and then you can bake the mug to make sure it lasts :--)

Some people have mentioned liking certain themes for mugs that may end up coming with some writing on them, for example, I like fish, so perhaps someone finds a fish mug and it says "Gone Fishin'" or something goofy... or that you're a teacher and it says, "Teachers are A+", the item itself is COOL - it's not a boring silly mug with just a slogan on it, but it might have writing in addition to being cool, something silly or touching or whatever... is this an issue for you?
If it's like a mug that says "Nurses save lives" or something, I'll love it :). Especially if it has other pictures or something on it. I'm not so into ones that ONLY have words. But if it has words in addition to a theme/pictures/design, that's fine :). Actually that nursing mug sounds great lol. No that is fine. I just don't like the ones were it is more about the slogan or writing than it is the mug art itself. Unless it is someplace I visited or holds special meaning, I am not a fan of those kind of mugs. But if it was a beautiful artsy mug with Indian henna designs and said "Dream" somewhere on it, I would be fine.
These are the kinds of things I meant definitely, more than the plain mugs with JUST writing on them - so I'm glad I wasn't SUPER confusing lol :lol: trying to describe what I was talking about! :biggrin:

Peppermints are so beautiful! I developed an allergy to them, but I used to love it. I still put hem in bowls and on the tree and such as decorations. My favorite tea cup has them painted on.
I really miss peppermint, lol. But it gives me a sore throat. It taunts me with its beauty. I now use cinnamon toothpaste because that was the big thing that was giving me problems.

Okay this is odd but, I buy coffee for myself... er... what if I scooped you out a few little jars of my whole bean or ground coffee? :huh: How would you feel about that?
Not sure it 100% applies to me, cuz my Keurig maker only takes the cup thingies, but I think I'd be okay with it. I'd probably prefer unopened, though. I'm a little bit weird about stuff lol. But I think I'd be okay with it.

Ohhh I like kirklands as well. They should have some. Ross and tjmaxx definitely have mugs :). I actually got my partner one from there. And I've bought mugs for myself there as well :). They're all good places to look.
Oh and the ones at Ross and tjmaxx are pretty inexpensive, but still nice. My partners mug was on sale and a really good deal :). But they're usually less than $6.
Hope you have better Ross luck than I did.. I only went to one but all they had was monogrammed ones with initials like Q & X, plus a couple astrological sign ones. Meh

The only thing that stopped me from doing that is #1 - I chose a box that is absolutely PACKED to the brim with the items I am sending, and #2 - I sealed it. So. No more opening and adding, lol. It's perfect as is and, I don't want to overkill. I think it's going to be a big hit. :biggrin:

Actually, I am worried about my packing too. I didn't use any bubble wrap but I think everything is snug. If anything breaks I will either replace it (if I can) or send a substitute).

I've got this fun idea for a surprise in the box, but I know it wouldn't work. You can make glow sticks into a set of eyes by duct taping parts of it so there are only two sections showing. If glow sticks didn't last only a day I would stick it in the box and send it along.The glowing eyes is such a neat idea!! Too bad glow sticks dont last long enough.

Oh you know what our American Halloween tradition seems to be? One of my kids breaks their arm! Last year my son fell off a fence and broke his left elbow. This year my daughter jumped of a slide and broke her right elbow. Last year we had broken arm Ninja. This year broken arm batgirl.

I bought my dog a new toy last night...a cheeseburger toy with a squeaker in it. Yes, I haven't actually used any duct tape, but the box is sealed completely with packing tape on the bottom, I just figured some extra "strength" might help. Nothing will help if they don't heed my "fragile" warnings though, lol... I think I'll be like 10lbs, so it's not terribly heavy. In the newbie swap we threw around the idea of video-taping ourselves opening the boxes but I think we all got self conscious about it and no one did it... I do have like a "helmet cam" that I've thought about using because you would see what I was seeing and hear my crazy expressions like "Ooooooooohhhh Myyyyyyyyyyyyy godddd whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" and all kinds of crazy stuff! :lol:

Yeah, I didn't share the majority of my wrapping which is oddly shaped bundles. They look poorly done, lol!!! But I drew on them.
Partner, you were treated to a family tradition. When my sis and I give each other gifts we write and draw all over the wrapping paper. Also, I think I forgot to say in my note that the cookies are very special. They are my grandma's recipe complete with the use of the elusive special vanilla sugar. Mom made them with her mom, I made them with my mom, and now you get a batch to try. :) Maybe I did write this in the note, but I think I forgot. I hope they make it through shipping okay!

Right on, Marigold.Lol my stove isnt the best either. I think the back of it get hotter for some reason. So I always have to flip the pan around like halfway through baking lol.
I need a new oven. Mine is just too old & I've never had such a problem baking as I do with this oven. The times/temps are never right. I think it runs too hot. Oftentimes my cookies & cakes are burnt on the bottom & raw on top. I've tried varying the temp & rack position, but it's just a frustration. My best bet is to set it 25 degrees cooler and bake on the top rack. Then watch it like a hawk. Even then, I only have about a 70% success rate. :lol:

I actually don't feel so scared about the weight. Most of my other swap boxes are around 5lbs, this one is only 2x heavier... so... it's not like it's a monster :lol: I was worried I'd end up with like a 25lb box. I can't estimate weight at all... :lmao:

I then checked my Amazon order and it didn't say it was out for delivery and it was coming from Fedex. If my fiance had told me it was still open 'til 5:30, I would have gone straight home to pick up the slip and pick up the package instead of running errands. Tomorrow AND Saturday I work 15 minutes after it opens 'til 15 minutes before it closes and it takes me 15 minutes to get there to and from work. UGH. The postal worker also rang the bell to my apartment 10 minutes after I got off my break so that was even more frustrating. :( I may run to the post office right before work and be a few minutes late. Got to the PO in time that it'll go out today and estimated delivery is Thursday!! :). Can't wait to see how my partner likes everything!! The combined boxes weighed almost 13 pounds Dx haha. The PO worker told me I saved about $20 sending in two flat rates. Wow!

I am so glad I didn't do that swap. I really wanted to, but I didn't have enough feedback at the time and even though I had links to my ebay and such and emailed about it, I never got a response. Now I am glad because it would have been too much. I already go overboard, I don't need a swap that is geared toward going into the deep end overboard. Although I still like the idea of the swap a lot.
I also remember there were some people who were let down and others who were overly lavished with gifts. You almost need to make strict rules about how many ponies there should be total (and no more) and that the other days should cost a total between x and y and no more.

Yum, caramel apple kit!I am curious to now how this works. I work in a candy shop and made both carmel and candy apples. However for the carmel, its a huge can of carmel that gets heats up and then you dunk apples into it. There is also a candy apple it but the instructions seem similar to how I made them, just in a much smaller quantity.

So, I shipped it off. It WAS going to cost me over a hundred bucks! So, we opened it up and removed two tealight candles. It amounted to 56 grams :facepalm: The price was cut IN HALF!! Unfortunately, I could not afford the extra twenty bucks they wanted for tracking, but they said it should be there in about ten days. Let's hope!
I ordered an extra mug incase another didn't come in time. Of course, that mug came today, and now, having seen it in person, I wish I could have traded it with another mug...You could pm your partner after the swap with a pic & see if they're interested in some type of arrangement! Just a thought.

I also had some hot chocolate tonight in my pumpkin mug. I ranadonly find this pepermint hot coco in walmart the other night and it has real pepermint pieces in it...and it really good. Better then the more popular brands of hot chocolateIs it the one with the snowman on it, or the swiss miss one? I loved the snow man one. And I recently found a swiss miss peppermint hot cocoa, but I haven't tried it yet. But the swiss miss one has peppermint marshmallows, not pieces.
Never tried putting a candy cane in it... will remember that when we have some laying around.Definitely give it a try!! Mmmm it's one of my favorite holiday flavors :)
