Those who are in or stalking the Carousel Swap will probably know I've been working on my own carousel pony for a while. I am delighted to say that she's finished and I can show her off to all of you.
For 6 long weeks I have been working on a single custom pony. Every ounce of my skill has gone into her and I couldn’t be prouder of the outcome.
This pony is made in memory of my Grandmother, and also for whom she is named.
I lost my grandmother 5 years ago but it doesn’t make it hurt any less. I miss her terribly still.
The pony, Jeanette’s Rose, is symbolic of all the things my grandmother and I shared. Firstly she’s a carousel horse. One of my earliest memories with my grandmother is riding the Cinderella Carousel in Disney with her. I loved it so much.
From there those painted horses became something we shared. In her will she left to me the carriage clock with a tiny porcelain carousel inside that I had coveted so much as a child.
Jeanette is covered in red roses, these were my grandmother’s favourite flower and they are still a symbol of her today in my family. On her birthday each of us have a bouquet of them out for her.
She has three tiny roses on the chain on her rump, these symbolise myself, my sister and my cousin. Her only grandchildren who she loved more than anything.
I chose to make Jeanette a grey Pegasus. Grey horses were special to my grandmother, I believe she had one when she was much younger. The Pegasus itself is a reference to the fact she is no-longer with us.
Her hair is the closest shade I could get to my grandmothers hair colour and her eyes are an exaggerated shade of her own.
On the technical side. Jeanette is mounted on a solid pine base with a wooden pole fixing her to it. She has been sculpted with Premo Sculpey and painted with citadel acrylics. She was sealed with watered down Mod Podge.
Her hair is a nylon blend in ‘Tiramasu’ which was bought from MyLittleCustoms.
She is accented with faux gems in Garnet, Ruby and Opal.
She is not for sale and will remain with me as a beautiful reminder of someone I love very much.
Now here she is in all her vintage carousel glory!
