Today's arrival :) any tips about so softs?
« on: February 04, 2013, 04:44:13 AM »
Well today is the day when my first So Soft pony has arrived!

I know its not a big deal for those in the USA where they can be quite common, for the UK they can be hard to get hold of!

Anyways, been having quite a depressed time lately but at least shes arrived to cheer me up! As well as my new blind bag additions which I've just started collecting (posted recently about wether I should collect G4).

I'm so glad since Paradise seems to have minimal flock loss! Never realised how velvety soft there are...(sorry Im in the background of photos, phone is on charge that I normally take pics with)

Does anyone have any tips on how to restore/clean so softs? Since I've never had any before and I know you have to be a bit more cautious than no flocked ponies.

Heres my new blind bags too :) -

The  main thing to remember with so softs is PAT do NOT RUB!
I ususally use baby shampoo on most of my ponies and cotton pads..
but like i said..dont rub or the flocking will come off..
if you can get a squirt bottle , gently wet her with some soapy water .. then wipe her  down, pat her dry with a soft towel and let her air dry.
if you wanna get her white ( tho honestly shes awsome and dosent look like she needs whitening) toss a very small amount of oxy clean in there and that will help!
congrats darlin!

Congrats on all your new ponies. I take dish soap and a very soft toothbrush. You rub in a very light circle motion. It has done wonders for my ponies that I did. :)

Brilliant thank you! Thats really helpful since I dont know how easy it would rub off so now I know to be careful!
yeah I probably wont oxy clean her....since Im worried my Vanish (same as oxy clean) would damage her! She does look quite white so im sure she'll be okay :)

Thanks for the tip about a soft toothbrush, I have a great one for that! I'll keep the circular motion in mind!

Thank you, getting addicted to my blind bags! Keeping a note of the numbers so I dont get duplicates!

What a scrummy Paradise!

Thank you! Reallyyyyy happy with her! Want to get more so softs when I can! :)

SS addict- your paradise is LOVELY. Congrats!

I must have at least 50 SS's by now, my best advice through trail and error- don't wash flocking unless you have to. Them having some yellowed areas is normal because of the glue, washing won't lighten it. If you wash sometimes the flocking doesn't dry as fluffy as before either, or if you're really unlucky even wetting them will wash off flock if she was made with a poorer batch of glue. I deflocked a dirty Truly under a tap cold running water, couldn't believe how much flocking came off her. (took me under half an hour to finish her the rest of the way with some acetone- fastest deflock ever.)

For nice ones that already look clean I just wash the hair to get the dust out and very gently dust off the body with a microfibre cloth, if they are dirty and need a clean I test wash under a hoof first. :) I use cooler running water and a little lather from ivory soap and rinse well. After washing I pat them gently dry with a small towel as that seems to keep the flock from getting a matted look.

Wow I'm jealous FantasticFirefly!

Ah that's really good advice, I mainly want to sort out her hair and give her a little bit of a surface wipe!

I will remember this if/when I get anymore So softs (I really hope I do)!

Thanks very much for the great advice :)

Congrats she looks lovely.  All I can add is not to use super hot water, I did it with tap and most of the flocking came off a bait Skippy Do.  I love that BB wave, one of our favorites.

Ohh, what a pretty Paradise!  Congrats!  :)

The only suggestion I have to add to cleaning so softs is sometimes I run a *tiny* amount of conditioner over their flocking at the end, when I'm conditioning the hair - and then I gently rinse it all off.  Makes the flocking softer.  :)
