Hair Question
« on: July 08, 2015, 05:02:39 PM »
Has anyone ever re-rooted with synthetic hair? I got some last year from I think it was retrodolls. I have only ever used the nylon hair from dollyhair.

does the synthetic break more easy? what is your opinion on it?

Isn't nylon hair a type of synthetic hair?  I'm not sure what kind of synthetic you mean.  Saran, maybe?
Thanks to Shimmlight for the new avatar image

nylon is synthetic. and there are at least a dozen types of synthetic hair - you'll need to be more specific lol
nylon is the easiest to work with, followed by saran - both of which come in many colors (nylon usually more).
other hair types may be harder to work with, stiffer, break more easily, etc, but it just depends

So it's probably not Nylon or saran

it could be

Acetate
Polypropylene
Monofiber
Kanekalon (doll-grade)
etc etc

The most notable difference in my opinion between different kinds of synthetic hair is how well they can be styled after rehairing. Nylon seems to be the easiest to tame, others are harder.

Polypropylene and acetate are, to me, just as easy to reroot with as nylon or saran.  Neither broke or seemed brittle.  I don't recall if either curl, though.

I use Synthetic hair if it's good quality and the right color. It's no different than using nylon.

Do NOT curl Saran hair with a curling iron! I found out, to my absolute fury, that I'd accidentally used Saran on a pony when, as a final touch, I used a curling iron on the tail and it just melted  >_< how annoyed I was! The pony was a commission and was due to be handed over to her new owner the following day.....I had to humbly apologise, take her away, cut her open (it was a beady pony so I couldn't take the head off as everything was glued) scrape the last of the hair together - just had enough - and then re-glue the poor thing back together!
Thank you *wyvernchick* for my lovely avvie!
