Halp! French Bow tie is fading?!
« on: June 20, 2015, 05:57:41 PM »
I bought a French bow tie just under a year ago, and at the time she had some light fading to white right on her lips. I just picked her up months later and the white is spreading to under her hair, her front legs and more of her face.
Does this happen with French ponies? I invested about $75 for her when I bought her and I doubt she will sell for the same now.
Will her whole body turn white?

Oh dear! It looks to me like someone used Removezit (benzoyl peroxide) on her. It removes all sorts of marks but also remains active long after application and washing it off and will continue fading your poor pony (up to a point).

I am so sorry, she appears to be lovely otherwise, but I don't know of any way of stopping the fading.

Someone bought a gorgeous Wavejumper and had the same thing happen after purchasing her :(

Oh no! She said it used to have lipstick on the mouth and then they removed it.

Poor baby, if it's any consolation the mark on her chest looks like a heart which is cute. You could possibly have someone try to restore her maybe? I don't know how they could without it being noticeable though.

My guess would also be removezit or similar also :( I once had a Mexican baby who had had it used on her also and the same thing happened to her. Surprised it took so long to take effect though! Not sure there's any way to stop it though - it seems to be pretty powerful stuff.

Oh no!  this is definitely the work of zit cream!  :(  If you still have the seller's info, please email them and let them know NEVER to do this to a pony!  :(

Too bad it wasn't within a few months ago rather than almost a year; you could have initiated a chargeback on your credit card (if you used it)...

Oh my. Sorry for your pony:( I wonder if you could treat the rest of her with removezit too to at least get an even creamy white color. It might look nice.

I messaged the seller to let them know this happened. When I bought her they said there was lipstick removed from the mouth, and in 5 years it had not spread. I'm now finding that hard to believe since it is spreading very quickly.

I would actually love to see her creamy white lol. But I'm unsure if her symbols would fade too?

The paint on her symbols should not fade because of the cream (the cream gets into the pores of the plastic and starts bleaching out the colour). However that pink paint is a little notorious for fading out for other reasons so you may want to keep her as out of the sun as possible.

I am so sorry this has happened! I agree with everyone else that it is going to be acne cream that has caused it. Unfortunately it can be years after the cream has been used that the side effects are seen...its why its the worst tool to use on ponies *hugs*

*nods*. It was used for a long time as a mark remover by collectors, but in the past few years, this is what happens.  The seller probably was told on the forums to use removezit, and it probably took a change in the environment for it to shOw?

I am so sorry about girl, ugh I hate it when people use zit cream, many still do :/ I am very pleased you messaged the seller as they should be aware about the effects, pity it didn't happen early as I really feel the seller should be held responsible for this damage and offer a refund but its been so long, I really think if sellers are held responsible they will stop using zit cream. I am a member on facebook pony forums and am shocked how many people still use zit creams these days

I still see advice that zit cream is okay to use on certain coloured ponies, maybe the community should do away with it all together to avoid mistakes like this.

I am so sorry this has happened to your Bowtie.
Maybe a skilled restorer would be able to colour match her and airbrush over her fading spots to disguise them? I've heard of people buying ponies and never knowing they even had marks until they accidentally wash the paint off.

Yes, I remember years ago this was a "fad" in pony cleaning until the side effects started showing up. Poor pony :(
