Do we have start/end times?

Last year we started at 11am.  Did that time work for you guys?  Or would a later time be preferred?  It's all good to me.   If anyone's hanging around by nightfall, I'll get the fire pit going on the lower patio!  ^.^

One month to go!!   :frolic:

So yes, I figure since this is a little more than a month away, I'd better start posting here regularly and be a good host!

I'd like to get a head count going if that's okay with you peeps!  Just post a confirmation whether you will be coming, and how many guests you will have along with you!  I'll keep an updated post with lists - probably on the first page.

Also, foodses!  We'd better get that list going too - good thinking, ponyqueen!  I'll put you down for a salad.  rosierjay, I would LOVE some kooky Japanese treats!  I like mochi, myself.  But the more novel the food, the better, imo!  :)

I will get a master post compiled early tomorrow.  Another lil' thing I would love suggestions on is what we can do for a host pony theme.  I really like the idea of an apple dessert contest, for example.  ;)

I made a fair number of G4 cakes for meetups a few years ago.  It was really fun actually... maybe I should make one for the upcoming MN meet!  :D

Wow PQ!  Thanks so much for posting last year's notes!  Methinks we should start paring down a list of activities for the day of, yah?  :D

So!  I totally forgot to post some pics of my place!     Here are several shots of my backyard...

This is a shot from the upper back patio.  Our property extends up the hill to where the mowing lines end.  ;)

A view of most of our yard from the lower patio.

There are hills both by the house and at the opposite end of the yard, but the flat area length extends roughly 70+ feet out from the house, and the width is about 90 feet.
I was thinking of renting 2-3 canopies and setting them up in the back for spaces to set up sale tables, areas to relax, etc.  That way we have shade if it's sunny and shelter if it's raining.  :)  There's also a covered space on the upper patio and a good bit of room inside.

Would anyone be up for yard games if it's nice out?  I can set up a ladder ball toss and bean bag toss boards, for example.  :)  We also have a fairly spacious home theatre area in the basement; I'm planning on uploading a bunch of MLP cartoons (a mix of G1, G3 and G4) to our PS3 and having them play continuously.  The stuff I've picked runs about 8.5 hours all the way through! :P

Pony Corral / Re: Your favorite pony color combos?
« on: April 04, 2015, 05:10:08 PM »
More and more I find myself liking yellow-bodied ponies with cooler tones to their hair, like blue and purple.  I like a lot of the warmer hair tones too, but not so much magenta or other pinks.

Purple bodied ponies have always been a favorite of mine!  I like lighter purple bodies with darker purple tones to the hair - G3 Kimono, Fancy Free, etc.  I'm very fond of "wine-colored" ponies too, like the G3s Silver Song and Cherry Blossom.

I've never been to one of these shindigs, so I'm pretty eager, though also somewhat anxious.  Bit of a shy gal, but y'all make it sound pretty fun!

We would love to have you ponycentric!  Hope to see you then.  :)

Now that it's warmed up a little outside, I'll take some quick pics of the backyard area and post them tomorrow to give everyone an idea of what kind of outdoor space we have to work with.  I'm planning on renting a canopy or two as well, in case of rain.   :rain:

Not to say I don't have space inside the house - I certainly do!  I just think it'd be a great opportunity to utilize our fairly expansive outdoor area as well.  :P

I may pick Maud up and try acetone on her, just for the challenge if nothing else! :P

I actually kinda like the dress too... it has a sort of gaudy kimono charm to it.  ;)  I wonder which G4 it would suit better?

if we do applejack. would an applejack plush i made work?

I don't see why not. :)

All generations and iterations of AJ are welcome!  :lovey:

I'm a natural blonde - probably due to my Swedish and Sami heritage!  ^.^

I've never colored or otherwise majorly futzed with it though.  I think the most significant change ever done to it was when I got it permed in like 2nd or 3rd grade.  LOL!

Pony Corral / Poor Cinnamon Breeze... :(
« on: February 23, 2015, 12:04:05 PM »
So for some reason, completely out of the blue, my cat decides to start chewing on one of the pony toys I had on my computer desk display.  And Cinnamon Breeze happened to be that pony.   :P  The weird thing is, my cat keeps going back to chew on her.   Just her!  Here are some quick pics of the carnage I took with my phone - her left side hooves are a wreck!

So I've just decided to "martyr" CB for the sake of the herd.  :P  As long as the cat chews on CB alone, I won't use any sort of deterrent on the other ponies (e.g. bitter apple spray, etc.)

Have any of you guys suffered pony losses to pet (or baby) attacks?  What did you do about the problem?

Good to hear the favorable response for AJ!  :lovey:

Thanks for the feedback on crafting contests too.  I still think it would be neat to do a rehair event of some sort, but many of you think it better to broaden the rules on ponies to use.  Great idea!  I'm just brainstorming possibilities now.  What about using any gen of pony, keep their symbol and eyes etc, but limit to just one specific body color?  I'm tempted to say orange ponies for obvious reasons...   :P

I also have an idea for the craft contest we did last year with Tex-themed projects, but I need to know who are Pony of the Year is first... Silver Glade, do you have any thoughts? It's your party, after all!

I had to think about this one for a while!  There are a few ponies that are significant to me for various reasons.  But I have finally settled on Applejack.  G1 Applejack specifically, but I like her multi-generational aspect too.  It was G4 Applejack that I really fell in love with when FiM first aired - I see a lot of myself in her.  :)  And I really like the idea of apple-related activities and stuff too - Minnesota has such a connection with the crop (lots of varieties developed at UMN, etc.), and I think it'd be fun to do apple variety tastings, or an apple recipe contest, or apple crafts of some sort.  :P

I also like the idea of an alternate rehair contest, maybe focusing specifically on Applejack, or another pony.  Rehairing is fairly easy to do compared to full-blown customs, so I think we could get enough people on board to have a great selection of entries.  :D

Wow - that WLF Facebook video of Flutterbat has dubstep music and everything.

Can't say I'm a fan either.  Awkward design is awkward.  :P

Pony Corral / Re: G3 concept artwork- including sea ponies
« on: February 05, 2015, 12:08:08 PM »
What I find really fascinating about this is that 1) Hasbro was thinking of doing high concept collector ponies and 2) Hasbro was actively asking the artist to "push the boundaries."

Yeah, that's what I don't get.  If Hasbro asked the artist to make edgier designs for a collector line (which I'm assuming would be aimed at an older demographic), why did they balk when he offered them just that?  :P

I wonder what the execs meant when they said "edgy" or "push the boundaries."  Most people would default to thinking of sex and violence when they hear those terms - including this artist, apparently!
