Coconut Oil - What's Your Experience?
« on: October 26, 2013, 12:05:21 AM »
I have been reading the wonders of using 1 - 2 tbsp. of coconut oil as a daily supplement.

I just started using it today and wanted to know if anyone else uses it.  What have you noticed after using it for a while?

I've eaten that stuff for some time now. I gave up bad oils, like vegetable oil, anything based on seeds, and canola oil. Nasty stuff. I'd use olive oil, but I cook a lot and don't want to destroy it with heat. Coconut oil tolerates heat really well.

I wish I could say what differences I notice, but it's hard to get my body to notice anything these days. I figure I must not absorb too well. But other folks have said they like what it does for them.

Thanks, SDS!

I popped a tbsp. into my coffee this morning.  It was...different, haha.  No real taste difference, but the oil created a layer on top of the coffee that was much cooler than the actual coffee.  Once I got through the oil layer, my tongue got a hot surprise.

I've read all sorts of reported benefits: lowering LDLs, decreasing abdominal belly fat, making people "smarter," etc.

If all of this is true, I can expect to be thinner, smarter, and have beautiful skin/hair.  Right?  ;)

My aunt swears by it, but I haven't tried it myself.

I've tried it and liked it, but I ran out and haven't used it long enough at a go to see major results. I'm trying to find some that I like the taste of since I'm just eating it off a spoon. I think about a week or two at a time is the longest I've used it. It did seem to reduce bloating in my stomach really quickly and MAY have started reducing my carb craving, but I need to do more testing before I can really back that up.

It makes great popcorn. Also, the last time I used it as a hair treatment it left my hair really soft and smooth. I have thick, somewhat coarse hair.

So, for me the jury is still out, but I like what I've experienced so far well enough to keep trying. Keep us posted on how it works for you!

We used it for oil pulling at our house and for cooking. I noticed a difference when oil pulling with how clean my mouth felt, but not a huge difference when I use it for cooking (except that it makes amazing looking fried eggs).

Sounds like something I'd like to try.
Has to be better than the 3 month spurt of apple cider vinegar "it'll make you feel better" trial (ugggh gross) I did a few years ago.

I used to have it before I ate, rather than mixing it in my food.

I take virgin coconut oil, 2T per day. Before I started it I had all the symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It took a few weeks to see a difference but I actually feel like a normal person now. It really improved my energy and now I can actually function. I have been taking it for a little over 2 years now.
I like to take it in Hot cocoa, coffee, or in oatmeal. I tried to get my husband to try it but the only way he can stand it is in oatmeal, which he hardly eats.
After seeing how much it helped me my mom started taking it. She said she can tell a difference if she forgets to take it for a day or 2.

I heard about this a while ago and then forgot all about it. I think I'll give it a go now.

I never heard about using it like that before. At my work we use it to pop our popcorns and they're the best in town.

I use it for popcorn whenever I make it.  If you want to know, that is what movie theaters use, a form of butter colored coconut oil..  and flavacol salt.
