What's up with this baby Tabby?

So I was browsing ebay and came across this lil cutie

and I'm thinkin.... huh. baby tabby looks a lil different than i remember. the seller didn't have much info either as it seems they're not a collector. My first though was "oh she's been rehaired" but on closer inspection her body seems a whole lot darker than any other baby Tabby I've seen. so what do ya'll think? I actually bought her cuz I was just so intrigued lol (and she's cute, that super long hair looks really nice on her actually)

Honestly looks like a re-hair to me. Plus add in the dark background it could be throwing the color off. Cute little critter anyway you look at her. Congrats. :o)

i was wondering that too, I have seen some baby tabbys be a bit on the dark side, so I was wondering if it was just lighting. guess I'll know when she gets here lol! also thanks!!

I guess it's also possible they tried restoring a faded tabby by dying her?

She was dyed. You can see it in the color variation at the neck seam. Also rehaired. Still a very cute alteration, though.

She really is lovely! I'd be inclined to think a color balance issue, like maybe a filter! I'd say wait until you have her in hand, because dye would also be an option. I'd suggest looking for uneven spots, like the ear tips, edges of the hooves, the inside of the neck, places where the dye wouldn't take 100%, or might take 110%!

Also, if you pop her head off to look for dye evidence, you could look and see if her hair looks obviously rehaired! It's pretty clear that it is, but it's nice to confirm.

ooo yeah it is pretty noticeably darker at the neck seam! it also makes me wonder how on earth the seller acquired a dyed and rehaired pony if they're not a collector lol.
